Barry Ferguson is the current interim manager of Rangers and the bookmaker's favourite at the time of this analysis. But, how will he perform for the rest of the season and will it be good enough to extend his contract? If not, who else could be in the running?
McInnes spent five years at Rangers but was never more than a squad player. In his first job as a manager, McInness earned promotion to the Scottish Premier League for St Johnstone, then after a mixed spell at Bristol City south of the border he was handed the Aberdeen job.
There, McInnes won the 2014 Scottish League Cup Final when Aberdeen triumphed 4-2 on penalties - the Dons winning their first trophy for nearly 20 years - and qualified for Europe. He came close to delivering title glory for Aberdeen but a poor run of form saw him leave in 2021.
McInnes has since rebuilt his reputation at Kilmarnock, recording another promotion to the Scottish Premier League and then a fourth-placed finish. He would be among the favourites.
Some fans have been calling for Muscat to get the job, with the former Australia international having had a brief spell at Ibrox back in his playing days.
Muscat led Melbourne Victory to an A-League premiership-championship double in his homeland in 2015, then he won the J1 League title in 2022 with Yokohama F. Marinos.
Curiously, at both clubs he had replaced Ange Postecoglou in the dugout. Muscat has won titles in three different countries after his Shanghai Port team claimed the 2024 Chinese Super League. Could he make that four at Rangers?
While some Rangers fans cannot forgive Gerrard for the way he left Ibrox, many would welcome him back to Glasgow with open arms.
The Englishman has been unable to kick on since leaving Rangers, lasting less than a year at Villa.
He surprised many when he opted to become the new manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq, where he is now contracted all the way to 2027.
Brendan Rodgers went back to Celtic, so could Gerrard do the same with their Old Firm rivals?
The Swedish coach Thelin is still relatively new to Scottish football, but has been earning rave reviews for his work since taking charge of Aberdeen in June 2024.
The Dons won 13 games in a row at the start of his reign but a 6-0 cup loss to Celtic shows he still has a lot of work to do.
The Englishman remains out of work since his sacking at Chelsea but has recently spoken about being ready to return to the dugout after a lengthy break.
Potter has been linked with a range of jobs without getting one, but it is unclear whether or not Rangers would be appealing.
Veteran manager Benitez is also unemployed after leaving Celta Vigo in March 2024. The Spaniard won a brace of La Liga titles with Valencia and took Liverpool to Champions League glory, later adding the Supercoppa Italiana and Club World Cup to his CV with Inter Milan.
Since leaving Newcastle United in 2019, Benitez has struggled to settle anywhere with both Everton and Celta struggling during his brief spells. Could he revive his career at Rangers?
Malmo manager Rydstrom is an intriguing and exciting potential candidate, having won a brace of Allsvenskan league titles in Sweden.
Loyalty is clearly important to Rydstrom as he played well over 500 times for Kalmar in his playing days, so tempting him to Glasgow might be tricky.
Another manager thriving in Scandinavian football, Knutsen took Bodø/Glimt to the club's first Norwegian national league title, which they successfully defended the following year.
Knutsen made headlines when his team battered Jose Mourinho's Roma 6-1 and he has been named the Eliteserien Coach of the Year on three occasions, taking the title in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Davis already had one spell in temporary charge of Rangers and could be an obvious man to step in should Clement leave. One of the classiest midfielders in Rangers' modern history, Davis would certainly have the fans on his side but there are question marks over whether he has the experience required to take on such a big role so early on in his coaching career.
The former Northern Ireland international is a big character, though, and had a taste of what it takes to lead Rangers when he was given a couple of games in charge before Clement's arrival, losing in the Europa League to Aris Limassol before recording a Scottish Premier League win against St Mirren.
Davis did not hold back in his criticism of Rangers after one of the poorest performances under Clement, but would he be able to solve the issues within the club?
