Ladbrokes is a British gambling company with its roots going back to 1886. In 2015, Ladbrokes and the Gala Coral Group merged two of Britain’s biggest gambling companies to create the Ladbrokes Coral Group with over 4000 betting shops and 30,000+ employees.
In 2018, the Ladbrokes Coral Group was acquired by GVC Holdings. GVC Holdings is a British gambling company that is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is part of the FTSE 100 Index.
But, the Ladbrokes Coral Group has received several large fines since GVC Holdings took over. On 31st July 2019, the UKGC announced Ladbrokes Coral would pay a £5.9m fine for failings in anti-money laundering and social responsibility found between 2014 – 2017. In February 2020, Ladbrokes Australia was fined AUD207,500 for offering illegal gambling inducements to New South Wales residents, which the regulator called the “biggest ever fine of its kind” in New South Wales.
Also, according to the Guardian, Ladbrokes paid £1 million to the victims of a problem gambler, in return for a pledge not to inform the UK Gambling Comission. Overall, the Ladbrokes Coral Group are safe bookmakers with a long history in the industry, but, there are serious concerns with the recent practices and fines. On top of this, Ladbrokes has a shocking Trustpilot rating of 1.2 out of 5 with over 1400 real player reviews. We know bookies are not known for having the best Trustpilot reviews, but, there are far too many 1 star reviews with some genuinely concerning feedback.
Overall, we recommend looking at our list of the top 50 betting sites in the UK if you want to join safe and trusted operators that have not received multiple fines from regulators, and a bad Trustpilot rating with 1000’s of negative reviews.
