Given the popularity of the Premier League, as well as the significant revenue difference, Serie A has been in a constant battle to attract viewers. Interest seemingly hit rock bottom about 5-10 years ago, not helped by the dominance of Juventus, but the competition between the clubs have since increased in the league.
Slowly but steadily, therefore, the interest has been growing and the clubs have also performed better in European competitions. There is usually a very tight race for the top four spots and the relegation battle tends to be very lively as well. The next step is thus to have a proper title battle again, which we haven't seen since 2021/22 when Milan won by two points.
As things stand, no UK broadcaster owns the rights to the 2024/25 season of Serie A. TNT Sports had a deal that expired at the end of last season and there have been no reports of a new broadcaster since. However, as we get closer to the start of the campaign, there should be a solution in place.
Champions League spots: Serie A is guaranteed at least four spots in the Champions League. Depending on their performance in UEFA competitions, there could be an additional fifth spot as we saw in the 2023/24 season, which secured a Champions League spot for Bologna.
Play-off game: A few years back, Serie A decided to shake things up by adding a so-called play-off game, should two teams finish on the same amount of points at the top or the bottom of the standings. The game is played on neutral ground and only decides the league winner or relegation spots, while head-to-head points decide other positions.
Kick-off times: Serie A is played on Saturdays, Sundays and in rare cases, on Friday evenings. 12:30, 15:00, 18:00 and 20:45 are the kick-off times. Every now and then, there are also mid-week games which are played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.
The foreign struggles: No foreign manager has been able to lift the Serie A trophy since Jose Mourinho in 2010, when he won the treble with Inter. In the 21st century, only one more foreign manager has won the Scudetto, namely Sven-Göran Eriksson with Lazio in 2000.
