City Alone at the Top

With Arsenal dropping points on Saturday, it was Manchester City's chance to take the lead at the top of the Premier League and they didn't exactly make easy work of it. After their Europa League opener, Sunderland were not expected to do much against the Citizens.

Yet a Brian Brobbey hat-trick changed the script. The Blues did eventually seal three points through Erling Haaland, but they made it more difficult than it needed to be. Nevertheless, it means their perfect run continues.

As expected, the bookmakers have shortened their odds massively, going from 9/4 to 6/4 after their latest win. They're not the favourites to win the Premier League this season, but they might be soon...

Arsenal Battered by Brighton

With Arsenal in fine form, most expected this weekend's trip to the south coast to be a routine win. However, the Seagulls claimed their first Premier League win against the Gunners since 2023; a first at home since 2020.

Calling it 'just a win' feels like an understatement. Brighton battered the title holders and that cannot be overlooked. Goals came from three different players as the Seagulls pecked Arsenal to pieces; if anything, you'd say they were the reigning champions!

At 4/1 before the game, it was a substantial betting opportunity that some surely took! For Arsenal, it's a pretty big defeat in the title race, with Manchester City now having a three-point lead. Brighton, on the other hand, are now just two points behind the Gunners and five behind City... could they make a push? If you think so, the best bookmakers in the UK have them at 50/1. Arsenal, on the other hand, are now backable at 11/10.

Liverpool Move Into the Driving Seat

After last weekend's draw with Fulham, Liverpool needed to return to winning ways this weekend and they did against Bournemouth. On a trip back to Andoni Iraola's former club, the Reds got a big goal through Alexander Isak and they enter the break in a fantastic position.

Five games unbeaten, albeit with three draws, and goals coming from their big money striker. Things couldn't have gone much better for Iraola so far and they're now the favourites for a Top Four spot - outside of the title challengers - at 3/4 with AK Bets.

Chelsea Fading

Chelsea's start to the season had them in the title talk, but they've faded quickly. That loss to Arsenal has been damaging, but the draw against Hull and this weekend's defeat to Brentford are worse. Nothing can be taken away from the Bees - who are 9/2 for a Top Four spot - they were fantastic and deserved their points-per-goal collection.

However, the Blues rolled over and look like they need the break. It already seems like they've lost a bit of momentum and so this break comes at a good time. They're far from being out of the race and the Flutter brands are currently the only firms going above Evens for them to be in the Top Four at the end of the season.

Manchester United Poor Again

Against a Fulham side who have not really impressed this season, the Red Devils had an opportunity to put some pressure on the top four this weekend. However, they dropped points again. It means they leave the first five games with five points - simply not good enough if they want to be in Europe next season.

You can suggest Fulham did a lot of the right stuff and are on the right track, picking up points against Liverpool and United in successive weekends. Yet, they're facing relegation and United had a chance; they didn't take it.

Brighton Fly

We've discussed their win against Arsenal already and briefly took a look at their odds to win the Premier League title this season. However, a serious conversation needs to be had about their chances of a Champions League place.

Before this weekend's games, they were 5/1 for a Top Four spot. They're now as short as 2/1 in places, it says a lot about the belief in the Seagulls. After that win, you'd struggle to oppose them fighting for Europe.

If you think a place in the Top Four is a step too far, they're still above Evens for a Top Six spot with Unibet at 15/13. It's a real price of interest, it must be said...

COVENTRY WIN A GAME!!!

After the loss to Brighton, we had some substantial fears about Coventry this season. It looked like they could break the record for the fewest points this season and they still might. However, three points against Forest and a first goal on the board is huge.

It takes them off the foot of the table and perhaps comes at a horrible time for them before the break. Nevertheless, the bookies aren't really that confident that they'll be staying up in the Premier League this season; they're still around 1/2 to go down.

Hull Fall for First Time

Hull have been the story of the season so far, but their trip to St. James' Park was the first time seeing them fall. It's been pretty smooth sailing for the Tigers thus far, but conceding two in ten minutes showed that they're not invincible.

They're in a fantastic place, but the bookmakers have seen it as a sign of weakness. So much so that they've gone from 4/5 to 8/13 to go down. It's a pretty big change, but it's not a price I'd be willing to take right now.

Spirit of the Other Blues

A trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium isn't likely to be a pleasant one. Everton have been great at home so far this season under David Moyes and Ipswich would have done well to take anything from the game - hence why we tipped Everton to win this week.

A goal after 11 minutes pointed the Blues towards a win and they could've doubled it just after half-time. However, VAR ruled it out. Fatawu being sent off less than 10 minutes later killed the game off, though, and Everton walked to three points.

It's not a massively damaging defeat for them. In fact, they still sit in a pretty good place. Nevertheless, the bookmakers haven't seen it that way and they're close to dropping below Evens now at 5/4...

General Picture

It's probably best to look at the picture as a complete thing after this weekend, rather than focusing on another team, just because there are so many teams in the picture.

Crystal Palace remain the fourth favourites for the drop at 9/4, but a draw at Elland Road is a really solid result. Pierre Sage was always going to need a bit of time to adjust; the international break may only help them here.

AK Bets have pushed Fulham out to almost 13/5 to go down this season, which feels like a huge price. Their past two results have been solid, drawing against Manchester United and Liverpool. Yet, they've not really shown signs that they will push on...

We also, genuinely, cannot avoid speaking about Tottenham Hotspur, too. The fact that they scored twice this weekend is news.

Well, it was their first goals of the season and they still lost to Aston Villa, who've been poor too this season. Paddy Power are now 10/1 for them to go down, alongside Sky Bet. You'd not be laughed at for considering that price...

Haaland Scores as City Hit Sunderland for Five

With Manchester City scoring five, you'd expect the Premier League Golden Boot favourite to have gotten one, at least. Well, he did, but he made fans wait, with his conversion coming at the end of the game's goals.

It won't matter at the end of the day; he still scored. He also still leads the Top Goalscorer race with five goals and is now 8/15 to lift the Golden Boot award.

Before the season began, Alexander Isak was the second favourite to be the Premier League Top Goalscorer and he's delivered so far, sitting in second with four goals. Backable at 7/1 with Betway after his goal against Bournemouth, you could argue that there's still some Each-Way value in the price...
