Arsenal Get the Job Done

On the opening day, Arsenal were given a pretty easy start against Coventry City. However, the outcome was the same when they played an Aston Villa side preparing for a Champions League campaign.

It may not have been the prettiest game - and it certainly wasn't the most entertaining Monday Night Football - but they got the job done. If anything, it shows the Gunners are in the same place as last season.

They'll happily grind out these sorts of games, so it's no surprise that they're still favourites to win the league again.

Citizens Glide Past Eagles

Their win against Bournemouth wasn't exactly convincing, but very little can be said about Enzo Maresca's side's performance against Crystal Palace. Indeed, they won rather comfortably on Friday night.

Braces from Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki show that they are very much a contender for the title this season, even if there have been substantial changes this summer.

Signing Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, too, could be a statement of their intent to win the Premier League. It's not a surprise that their odds have dropped again this weekend...

Chelsea Capturing Attention

A 3-2 win against Fulham showed signs that Chelsea could be a danger this season and they followed that up in excellent fashion this weekend. A 4-3 win against Brighton is a simply fantastic result.

New goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez didn't have the best start to life back in London. However, the firepower up front got the Blues through again and you cannot really overlook them at this stage.

They might not be the most convincing opening results, but it seems clear that Chelsea might be very fun to watch this season. 6/1 for them to be champions might still be a little bit of value, too.

Manchester United do the Mauling

After last week's defeat to Hull City - hence the title - they needed to bounce back with a big win against Ipswich Town and they did...

An early goal from Leif Davis, made it seem like the Red Devils could capitulate this week again. However, Captain Fantastic Bruno Fernandes stepped up once again and delivered when it mattered.

A hat-trick and an assist (what a week for him in FPL, by the way), saw him single handedly take his team to victory. How often will that be the case, though? It's tough to tell...

Liverpool Leave it Late Again

Last week's draw with Newcastle United was seen as a good result, considering the circumstances. However, they needed to bounce back with a win against Nottingham Forest and they couldn't.

Another draw - at home, too - where they had to come from behind twice just isn't really motivating for those betting on a Top Four finish for the Reds.

Alexander Isak opening his record for the season is a good thing, though. There's got to be something positive in that, if nothing else!

Brentford Move Up the Ranks

When looking at the Top Four odds, you have most of the expected candidates. However, that sixth spot changes fairly regularly. So, this final spot will probably shift around a few clubs this season...

Right now, it's Brentford that take it and that may be a bit of a surprise given they didn't win at the weekend. However, they beat Spurs on the opening day and a draw against Leeds United cannot be overlooked.

At 6/1, though, I'd probably not be taking a go on this price...

Tigers Already Accustomed to Premier League

After their win against Manchester United, Hull had a much easier clash against Coventry City. So was it really a surprise that they came out with three points again this weekend.

Of the promoted sides, they're looking the strongest so far and it's no surprise that they're becoming less favoured to go down this season. In fact, the bookmakers now have them effectively neck and neck with the Sky Blues - Hull are 4/7 for the drop, Coventry are 8/15.

Looking at Frank Lampard's side, I think they're the most likely to go down as it stands. After winning the Championship, you'd expect them to be much better than a side who finished sixth.

Yet, Hull completely outclassed them and that's a major issue. We've already seen it against Arsenal and the result didn't change against another promoted team. It could be a long season in the Midlands...

Ipswich Show Signs

We've already looked at their defeat to Manchester United in this piece, but I'll still discuss it again here. The fact that they conceded five is an obvious worry. However, scoring two at Old Trafford is still something to be impressed with.

There will be plenty of easier games than this weekend's, so they may not be completely doomed.

Fulham Struggle Again

An opener against Chelsea isn't that kind, but a game against a Sunderland side who have been well backed to go down this season, is a nice GW2 fixture. Yet, the Cottagers didn't take advantage.

Yet again, they fell short, losing away from home and they look pretty unconvincing. They've already been cut to 11/4 to go down this season and it wouldn't be a surprise if they dropped further.

Conversations about Spurs...

When they lost to Brentford on the opening day, you thought, it's only the first game. However, dropping points against a Newcastle United side in transition is a worrying sign.

Don't get me wrong, both losses have come against teams that could be in the European conversations. Yet, Spurs should be in there too and they look anything but that right now...

After back to back relegation scares, they're already 16/1 for the drop. How early is too early to say that they might be there again... we'll see.

Haaland Returns With a Brace

Haaland has been the long-standing favourite for the Premier League Golden Boot again this season. So, after blanking on the first game week, he needed to make up ground.

A brace against Crystal Palace has done that and so he's back to 4/6 for the Top Scorer award. He's just inevitable, isn't he... you'd be brave to take him on.

Joao Pedro Adds Another

A goal against Fulham was followed up with another goal this weekend for Joao Pedro and it could've been two goals. Nevertheless, Xabi Alonso will take some earlier consistency from the Brazilian.

Already 7/1 for the Golden Boot, we got him at 20/1 in pre-season and it's looking like a better price with every game week.

Bruno Hat-Trick Helps his Odds

Last season, Bruno Fernandes broke the assists record and whilst he got his first of the campaign on Sunday, it's his goals that did the talking. A hat-trick in his first home game of the season, it's a solid enough start and he currently leads the scoring charts.

The betting markets have responded, too, and he's now as little as 35/1 with the best football bookmakers to win the prize this season...
