The Premier League is back and with it, there is the return of our odds watch series. Here we go through the winners and losers of the week, as well as what the market is saying.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to win the league in the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Over the summer, Arsenal have been the favourites to retain their Premier League title. After all, they're probably the only team to have a bit of consistency in recent years into this year.
So, when they got gifted Coventry on the first day, it was a chance to prove themselves as rightful favourites and they did. An easy 3-0 win on Friday night showed that they are still just as good as they were last season and they didn't even leave first gear.
A job well done and their odds have now fallen below Evens to win the Premier League title this season. When I took the 6/4 in pre-season it was certainly a bit of value, it seems!
With Manchester City, there's been fears about the after Pep Guardiola stage and they were close to showing on the first day. When City went 1-0 down (albeit to a good Bournemouth side), there wasn't really surprise.
After all, changing from Pep was always going to bring about problems.
Nevertheless, two late goals from Josko Gvardiol and Marc Guehi rescued three points and they remain the second favourites to win the division.
Finally, let's move to Monday Night's Football, where Chelsea faced Fulham - a game that feels too big to be an opener. It didn't matter, though, with a thoroughly entertaining game playing out.
The Blues opened the scoring early and it looked like it could be a massacre and a 3-2 scoreline probably flatters Fulham a bit. Had it not been for Robert Sanchez, it probably would've been 3-0...
One could suggest that the odds for them to win the division may have dropped further had they kept that, so maybe there's still quite a lot of value in the 6/1 price for an E/W bet, perhaps.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to get a Top Four finish in the 2026/27 Premier League season.
St. James' Park is not an easy place to go any time in the season. So, heading there for the first game of the season, with a new manager and a summer of change.
It's tough.
Liverpool getting anything from the game, then, would be considered a good result. They had to wait, but they did get there in the end, thanks to a late penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai. A decent result for Andoni Iraola, you'd have to say.
After an underwhelming summer for Manchester United, they needed a big win to settle things and, well, the need for investment has only risen. You cannot go to the play-off winners and lose on the first weekend.
With all respect to Hull, the Red Devils cannot lose these sorts of games if they are to be contenders for a Top Four spot this season. Yet, here we are, talking about them losing these sorts of games yet again.
A terrible result and it's no surprise that Sky Bet and its sister sites now have them at 7/4 for a Top Four spot.
Finally, it's worth discussing Aston Villa's defeat to Brighton and that feels a little too respectful. A 4-0 defeat is woeful and shows just how badly deconstructed Unai Emery's squad has been this summer.
Brighton are a fantastic team - and now backable at 7/1 for a Top Four spot - but they hadn't beaten the Villains since May 2024. There's been a clear level between them.
That may still exist now, it just may have been flipped. Aston Villa have drifted out to 14/1 with Paddy Power for a Top Four spot. It's a telling sign of no confidence, outpricing the other best football bookmakers heavily; some are still as low as 11/2.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Hull have been the long-standing favourites for relegation this season and an opening day win against Manchester United has not changed that. In fact, they are still backable at 4/7.
Beating the Red Devils is a huge result, but it's one that you can get up for. It's whether you're able to get up for the midweek games against Ipswich that will be decisive for the Tigers.
So, that price may not be worth taking just yet.
When drawn against the champions on Matchday One, it's never great. So Coventry won't feel too aggrieved by their defeat to Arsenal. It certainly could've gone better.
However, it wasn't too much of a shock that they were beaten. After this weekend, you'd probably have the least faith in their ability to stay up, but things can change quickly!
Ipswich and Sunderland sit quite high in the ranks for teams likely to go down this season and after this weekend, they are separated by a tiny amount. Indeed, the Tractor Boys claimed a first win of the season after promotion and there may be some panic in the North East.
Formerly a Black Cat himself, Jack Clarke proved to be the difference maker, scoring in the 90th minute to give Ipswich a happy return to the top flight. It would't be a surprise if they swapped places in the rankings over the next few weeks.
I've already looked at Fulham here, so I'll avoid saying too much here. However, Fulham were massively flattered by the result, I think. Had it not been for some poor goalkeeping, they'd have lost 3-0 and it could've been more.
They certainly grew into the game, but the first half was not a great showing at all and later in the season, the Blues probably would've scored more.
As low as 7/2 now for the drop, I took them at 6/1 for relegation in pre-season. We shall have to see if they continue to drop...
Before the season began, Erling Haaland was the clear favourite to win this season's Golden Boot. However, he hasn't started the campaign as he'd have hoped to.
In fact, it's the first time that he's not scored on the opening day since his move to England - which is thoroughly disappointing for those who had him in their FPL teams - but that has not moved the odds.
He remains the clear favourite to win the award at 4/5.
After Monday night's win against Fulham, Joao Pedro is now the second favourite to be crowned the Premier League's top goalscorer. Indeed, the Brazilian striker was backable at 20/1 before the start of the campaign.
With, four shots, a goal and an assist, the market are backing him in a Chelsea team that could go far. He's available at 17/2 with BetMGM, which could certainly offer some E/W value if not something more!
