As of 3 September 2025, according to the odds, the favourite to win promotion from the EFL League Two is MK Dons, best priced at 8/13 with Bet365.
The odds mean that the probability for MK Dons to get promoted is 61.90%.
With the way that League Two works, I've picked out quite a few sides for promotion; however, with some bookmakers offering 'Top Seven' markets, you may be better suited to betting on these, rather than promotion. Largely, as the odds are not too bad at all.
To start things off, I'm going with Bristol Rovers, who were relegated from League One Last season. The Bristolian outfit were terrible for large parts of the season, but this summer has offered them a chance to reset.
A lot of the dead wood has been shifted, and there have been some ambitious signings made from leagues above them. Josh McEachran still has gas in the tank, if you'll pardon the pun, whilst Darrell Clarke's return is a big motivator moving forward.
Work has needed to be done, and they have. So, they should be around the top parts of the division.
Following them, I'm liking the look of Grimsby Town, who could have a solid chance at promotion this season. Again, they have been on an upward trajectory in the past few years since their promotion from the National League.
This summer, they have kept hold of a lot of their better players from last season, whilst also adding quality across the board. Smart signings have been made from the National League, whilst they could also do a lot worse than Christy Pym and Jayden Sweeney. Contenders, again, I feel.
Similar to Grimsby, I am also rather intrigued by Colchester United's chances. On paper, quite an average side last season, highlighted by their 19 draws in the 2024/25 campaign. However, if they start better this time around, they could well be up there.
From the start of November to the middle of March, the side only lost two League Two games, proving that the Cowley brothers are still excellent coaches. In their third season with the club, they can advance further, and it would be no shock if they were around the play-offs again after finishing 10th last year.
Another team whose chances are piquing my interest is Fleetwood Town. Pete Wild's side have a serious amount of potential this season. However, they need to find a bit more consistency, which was the problem with their last campaign.
A very mixed bag, Wild will be hoping that his side can put together a run, which they failed to do in the second half of the season (when he took over). If they do, they really could be a serious threat to the play-off mix.
Potentially a rogue shout, but I also really like the look of Gillingham, who, despite finishing 17th last season, finished the year really well and could carry that momentum into this new season. Of course, the summer can change things, but they picked up some impressive form towards the back end of the campaign.
Powered by the likes of Bradley Dack, Armani Little and Robbie McKenzie, the Gills look to be solid enough from there already. However, new head coach Gareth Ainsworth, who conducted the improvement last season, should have them competing near the top.
