The favourites to replace Lopetegui at West Ham

As already stated, despite still being in the job, the bookies have begun to take bets for the next West Ham manager, which suggests something could be on the way before anything is even announced about his departure.

At present, the favourite is Graham Potter at 5/4, and we must admit that this is an option that makes sense. The Irons have a lot of money at their disposal, but they don't have the best record of investment, and Potter could be the right man to mould the club going forward, as truthfully, the London club is quite an attractive project.

Former Danish National Team head coach, Kasper Hjulmand, is the next choice for the bookies, best priced at 7/2. Already, reports have suggested that the Dane would be considered by the Irons if Lopetegui were to depart, and given what success he brought to Denmark, perhaps, he could replicate it if he steps back into club management.

Edin Terzic and Sergio Conceicao also follow in the pack of favourites, with odds of 5/1 and 6/1, and both could be considered, after reports suggested the duo had been looked at during the summer before their current head coach's appointment.

Aside from this pack of four, there are a host of other managers listed, but the odds jump to above 20/1.

Why are the Irons struggling?

With West Ham, it is a difficult situation. As would be expected a struggling side, they do not rank highly for goals scored or goals conceded, and this is why they find themselves only six points away from the relegation places.

Julen Lopetegui's side have conceded the fourth most amount of goals this season, and have conceded three or more goals on several occasions this season, most concerningly conceding eight goals in the last four days.

Taking over from David Moyes was not going to be an easy task, but with the Spaniard being given more than £100 million to spend in the summer, the expectations for the season were much higher.

Change takes time, but there are no meaningful signs being shown, which is only harming Lopetegui, which is why the fans are calling for his dismissal and the market for his sacking has opened.

What are the odds for West Ham United to be relegated?

Despite not being one of the favourites to be relegated, there is a worry from the fans about the drop. A 3-1 defeat to Leicester is damning, and ultimately, it is possible that Lopetegui will not be able to steer the ship away from the drop, if given the chance to.

The market suggests the Irons are 8th most likely to be relegated with the three promoted sides joining Everton and Crystal Palace to make up the five relegation favourites. Interestingly, the Hammers sit above Manchester City in the odds with the Citizens best priced at 12/1 for relegation compared to West Ham's 18/1.

The price of 18/1 is offered by Paddy Power and Betfair, and then William Hill and Priced Up follow at 12/1. Following this, a host of bookmakers offer prices ranging from 8-11/1.

As of December 5, West Ham are best-priced at 12/1 to be relegated from the Premier League in 2024-25.
