With Sean Dyche facing the sack, a new manager could be heading to Goodison and there have been some massive changes in the odds as Jose Mourinho now leads the market.
Below are the latest betting odds for Everton's next permanent manager at the time of this post.
Everton flirting with the relegation scene is no new thing. In the past few years, the Toffees have been regularly intertwined with the drop, but always seem to make it out in the dying embers of the season.
It could be different this season though. Another defeat this weekend was a 'sucker punch' for Sean Dyche's men, as our Premier League writer stated in his latest odds watch.
As a result of this, Sean Dyche's position has been weakening and with fans growing increasingly frustrated a much-needed change could be on the horizon with the odds moving for Dyche to be the next sacked manager dropping.
With the odds dropping and frustrations growing, there could be movement soon on the Goodison bench, and a surprise (but phenomenal) favourite has emerged over the course of the past day. Let's take a look.
If you were to talk about matches made in heaven, Jose Mourinho and Everton feels like the top spot. Mourinho, one of the masters of the footballing dark arts. Everton, a side that always seem to magic their way to stay up.
By all accounts, it is a partnership that has never happened but should. Now, it might.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Portuguese head coach was priced at 25/1 to be the next Everton manager, as of late Tuesday evening he sank to 8/11. We will do you one more, the odds then shrank to 2/1.
The shift in odds suggests the market has seen a lot of money pumped into it, but there have been no reports suggesting why this could be, however, it is easy to understand the links.
As already stated, the pair are made for each other, and Everton, arguably, need a star manager to get fans back on board with frustrations about the club rising steadily in recent years.
Mostly so, the new owners of the football club are the Friedkin Group, who formerly employed Mourinho at Roma. A reunion, given the Portuguese's success in Italy with Roma, is not too unimaginable.

Graham Potter's odds are certainly an interesting one. In the past few days, there have been suggestions that he is being considered by the Merseyside club, however, links have been more strong with West Ham United who are seemingly on the verge of sacking Julen Lopetegui.
I'm quite torn about whether the Englishman would be a good fit at Goodison in all honesty, and I think too much money would be needed investing before it is a 'Potter project' so to speak.
For these reasons, and the fact he has drifted from below evens to 5/1 (and probably will continue to drift), I would probably avoid a move on Potter right now.

It is certainly an interesting option on the market, and I'd argue that David Moyes is probably the second-best option behind Mourinho (presuming the Portuguese is one). A return to Goodison could work wonderfully, but it could also be a terrible start to life for the Friedkins.
Yes, Moyes is a European winner, but this is not what we need to look at currently. The Scotsman brought West Ham up the table gradually before the huge success, and despite the budget probably being slightly higher in London, he could still do well back on Merseyside.

The market is quite questionable elsewhere, and value/feasible options are difficult to find. Edin Terzic follows the aforementioned trio, as does Thomas Frank, which both feel quite unlikely at face value.
David Wagner, Steve Cooper and Massimiliano Allegri then follow, and again, none of the three feel either suitable or feasible, or both. Certainly, a difficult market to assess.

As of January 8, Everton are best-priced at 5/1 to be relegated from the Premier League in 2024-25. It is definitely not a damned job to walk into, but change may be needed quickly if fortunes are to change.
