Latest League One Odds: Bantams and Owls Sitting Pretty

This weekend's headline fixture at the top end of the division came at Hillsborough, where Sheffield Wednesday hosted a Stockport County side who are now the favourites to win the league this season, whilst the Owls are on the drift.

It was a pretty boring game, with the sides unable to be separated. However, the odds have not reflected that result. The Hatters currently sit at 5/1 - they're as low as 4/1 in some places - but their hosts are currently 15/2 with Spreadex and its sister sites?

Wednesday are four points better off, have a better goal difference and didn't lose this weekend? I'm baffled about why they're such a high price. They don't even just represent a good bet to win the league at this moment, but even a good Each-Way price... maybe I'm missing something.

The Real Table Toppers

Whilst the favourites may be Stockport currently, the leaders of League One played outside of Yorkshire this weekend, but they took three points back to the West Side as Bradford City went to Luton and grabbed a 1-0 win.

Despite an onslaught of attacks from the hosts, Bobby Pointon's fourth-minute goal was enough for the Bantams to get the win and it keeps them at the top of the league for now. Again, they're backable at a nice price, too.

Betway are the only remaining bookmaker at 7/1, meaning the Bantams represent a nice E/W price once again.

Plymouth on the Rise

I was tempted to include Plymouth in the title section of this piece, in all honesty, and they could well be making their way to that section shortly. This weekend's 4-2 win against Blackpool was their fourth win in their last five games and it's really difficult to overlook them.

Tom Cleverly's side appear to have clicked and the fact that they beat Bradford in this run shows that they can beat the better teams, as well. You can maybe argue that the results are watered down a bit by the opposition.

However, they're still winning the games. That's what matters. BetVictor and its sister sites are still 11/10 for them to get a Top Six spot; it might be worth taking it...

Huddersfield fall to Bromley

Before this weekend, Huddersfield Town were unbeaten. So, facing the relegation-threatened Bromley seemed like it'd be another chance to pick up points - who would think such a thing, let alone tip it(!) (sigh) - well, they wouldn't.

After conceding inside 10 minutes, they drew level late in the first half. Someone with Terrier affiliation would score in the second half, but it would be former player Mickel Miller to give them a first loss of the season.

They remain well backed to be in the play-offs at the end of the season and the best football bookmakers are still offering around 7/10.

Leicester and Luton baffle

This is more of an odds section, rather than a positive area and I'm combining two teams. Firstly is Leicester, and I do not understand how they're the fourth favourite for a Top Six place and STILL below Evens. There are several teams better than them this season and another draw at the weekend proves as much, especially against a Barnsley team who aren't great themselves.

Then, Luton lost to Bradford, but they also look miles off being a play-off team. They've taken four points from their last 15 available and you cannot avoid asking questions of why they're still so well favoured.

Something needs to give if they're going to catch up, let alone finish in the Top Six...

General Picture

Aside from the teams mentioned so far, there are a few interesting teams putting up a challenge for a top six spot.

I'd first look at Reading, who have won three of their last four game, losing the other. That run includes wins against Notts County, Blackpool and Mansfield, where they've scored 10 goals and conceded only once. It's impressive form and they're perhaps going under the radar a little bit, 2/1 is an interesting price.

Then, we've got Wimbledon. Now, I'm wary of not getting drawn too much, given they're in a very similar position to last season - sitting just outside the play-offs early on before tailing off massively. However, they're looking pretty solid thus far and are 14/1 to get a play-off spot this season. 5/2 for a top-half finish isn't anywhere near as attractive, but they may be worth keeping an eye on.

Bromley Out of the Bottom Four

Bromley have been the clear favourites to be relegated for the past few months and they still are right now at 5/6 with Betway. However, they can and will still take points from others in the division and Huddersfield Town found that out the hard way.

In a game the Terriers were expected to thrive in, they fell short and were beaten 2-1, giving the hosts their first three points of the season. The odds haven't improved massively; they've still shown enough to be favourites to go down. Yet, it's a start. If they build on it, maybe they won't be returning to League Two straight away.

Wigan Patchy (At Best)

This weekend's defeat to Wycombe was nothing new for Wigan; they've struggled a lot so far this season and there's unfortunately nothing to suggest that they'll be changing that form anytime soon. They've lost six games against League One opposition already this season (including the game against Barnsley in the EFL Cup).

The draw against Sheffield Wednesday was big, but it's hardly something that they're going to look back on as a turning point at this stage. It's not a good place to be right now. Yet, Bet365 still have them at 2/1 for the drop...

Doncaster Take Advantage of Struggling Posh

A lot of the same could be said for Peterborough, who have taken just two points from their last 15 available. If Wigan's form is patchy, theirs is woeful. There's zero consistency and they're the second favourites for the drop for a good reason.

Take their loss this weekend, for example, a 2-0 loss to Doncaster Rovers. That'd be fine if Doncaster were flying. However, it was their first win of the season. As a result, they're now above 3/1 for the drop; every point matters at the bottom.

The Posh are 7/4 to go down and it only feels like that price is going to get shorter.

MK Draw-ns

It's difficult to speak about MK Dons with any real positivity. Their draw this weekend against AFC Wimbledon just shows that they're not up to the step-up. A derby against one of the weaker sides of the division saw them draw a sixth game out of seven.

They've only lost once, but you don't stay up by drawing this many games. Those in charge of the best football betting apps think they do, though, and they're above 10/1 to go down currently. In fact, Betway are offering 12/1.
