Impressive Start for Some

At the top of League One, there were a few nice results, it must be said. Of course, there were a few curveballs, but you'd expect that to a degree.

With it also being the first weekend, we cannot be overly judge-y. Things can obviously change quickly and three points aren't going to change too much.

In other words, this isn't definitive.

Leicester Fall Short

The favourites to win the League One title are Leiecester City, but they didn't really look like a favourite this weekend.

A 1-1 draw with newly promoted Notts County is underwhelming in its own right.

However, they weren't even the ones in control of that game. Instead, it was the hosts.

It can be argued that they were lucky to even draw the game... not ideal.

Last-Minute Luton

It seemed like it was going to be an embarrassing weekend for the Hatters on the opening day, too.

Conceding three first half goals is never a good sign. However, Jack Wilshere's side fought back excellently, levelling things with 40 minutes to go.

They eventually got their winner, too, in the 96th minute.

It doesn't matter that it was late. Instead, it's probably a good thing that they're already showing this much heart.

A positive sign, but you'd have a few defensive concerns, too.

Sheffield Wednesday Enter a New Era With Three Points

After relegation from the Championship, there were a lot of questions about the damage that had been done to Sheffield Wednesday.

However, they have been backed heavily in the transfer window and certainly have the squad to compete.

Their opener was not exactly emphatic, but they got the job done in tough circumstances.

Masked Man Amazes for Huddersfield Town

In recent years, Huddersfield Town have spent big but fallen short. It has become a regularity with them. This summer, though, they may have gotten it right.

Indeed, their finding of Derensili Sanches Fernandes may finally be a case of striking gold.

An opening day brace for the new man is a great start and the Terriers now sit at the top of the table!

At 11/1 with StarSports and its sister sites, if they continue in the same way, maybe they could leave the recent seasons behind them.

New Manager, No Difference for Stockport

After Dave Challinor left in the summer, there were questions about what Stockport would be this season...

However, Ian McNulty has offered some reassurances on the first day with a huge win against Plymouth.

Argyle are one of the favourites for a play-off spot this season, so this is perhaps the biggest win of the weekend.

Maybe people should take more note of them this season...

Interesting Weekend for the Play-Off Contenders

Given how many teams we looked at in the first section, we're going to look at less teams in this 'bracket'.

Of course, the sides mentioned in the title category could well be involved in the play-off race later on and vice versa.

For now, though, we're looking at them in regards to a Top Six spot.

Bantams Don't Need to Leave First Gear

After their play-off heartbreak last season, Bradford probably needed to get off to a good start back at Valley Parade and they did.

A 2-0 win is certainly solid, especially when you consider that the Bantams never left first gear.

It's a very solid restart and if they can continue like this, they won't be too far wrong this season.

Plymouth Fall Short on Day One

We've already discussed Plymouth a little bit in this article, but it's worth looking at them again.

An opening day defeat to Stockport isn't the end of the world and the market doesn't think so either, with them still among the first seven in the market.

MK Don't Worry About Promotion

MK Dons were given a difficult start to life in League One, facing a relegated Oxford United side.

However, they more than held their own against the U's.

In fact, you'd argue that they may even feel a little hard done by after conceding a 95th minute equaliser.

It's a fantastic start to life back in the third tier and the 2/1 price for them to get a play-off spot isn't terrible.

Questionable Starts on Day One

Finally, we move to those who could be at risk of a drop to League Two this season.

Last season's relegation battle was fantastic and we can only hope for more of the same again.

Wimbledoomed?

We start with AFC Wimbledon, who were given a difficult opener against Huddersfield Town. Even then, though, they just didn't show enough.

They failed to threaten against a side who went down to 10 in the first half. Despite being two goals down, they should've still done more.

It's early to start having difficult conversations, but maybe some already need to be had.

Burton Albion Earn Respectable Draw

We won't be too harsh about Burton Albion here, even if they are the second favourites to go down.

Drawn against Stevenage in their opener, they looked similar to last season - just doing enough to get by in games - but they did concede late on.

It may not be the most attractive style of play, but if they can pick up points here and there, based on the opener, they could well be fine this season.

Bromley Impress on Opening Day

After promotion to League One, there were very few hopefuls about Bromley's chances.

However, they picked up a big three points on the opening day against a Barnsley side who looked pretty worrying.

They were peppered in terms of shots, but had six big chances in the game, in comparison to the host's one.

If they can continue to be efficient, they could make a lot of people re-think...

Peterborough Could Be In For A Rough Season

We've already looked at Peterborough's loss to Bradford City. So it's not a major shock that they sit in the bottom four after Matchday One.

A red card and two goals conceded - without the Bantams ever really getting out of first gear - is not a good start.

Improvements are certainly needed, but whether they arrive is something else entirely.
