Betfair Review (2026): Our UK Tests & Real Player Ratings

UKGC Licence (39439) See Licence

Betfair needs no introduction to UK punters after having become one of the biggest bookies around, offering both traditional odds and its exchange markets. However, is the site actually as good as the reputation?

In this review, we put the site to the test by signing up, verifying our account, depositing real money, placing bets and withdrawing funds.

Our unique BL Score also combines real user tests from Trustpilot, app stores and the editorial team to give a full, honest look at Betfair.

In terms of popularity, Betfair is amongst the top options for UK punters. However, we feel like it shouldn't hold a place there because of its high betting margins.

At almost 17%, you are getting a substantial tax on prices. Put simply, even the 'worst' betting sites will perform better in this regard.

There are positives to the site, of course. It has a superb casino, the range of the markets is impressive and the instant withdrawals are a great plus. However, if you cannot offer a sportsbook without a ludicrous betting margin, what is the point...

Put it this way, there is a reason why Sky Bet and Paddy Power are both viewed more favourably than the yellow-themed brand. Unless the margins are lowered, things won't change in that category.

In short, a superb bookie on appearance, but in terms of actual use, not great.

About Betfair

Betfair is one of the most recognised betting brands in the UK and there are several reasons for this. Primarily, it is the most versatile betting product available, and that remains the case despite new competition.

Offering a sportsbook and a casino - which we'll focus on here - as well as a betting exchange, it is difficult to find a better option that houses everything. However, it is certainly not flawless and we'll get to that.

In this review, we take a look at everything you need to know about the site. By the end, you should be able to make an informed decision about whether to sign up for the site and whether it really achieves what it sets out to do.

Is Betfair Legit and Safe?

🔒 Betfair's UKGC License: 39439, 39435 and 39426

With the sheer size of Betfair, it is understandable why it holds three different UKGC licenses. For further context, its long-term sister site Paddy Power also has a similar situation.

Indeed, everything is split across the three. PPB Counterparty Services Limited holds the sportsbook licensing, whilst PPB Entertainment Limited and Betfair Casino Limited focus on the casino and gaming sections.

Put simply, the site holds more than enough licensing from the UKGC. There are no doubts about its legitimacy to operate.

📊 Betfair's Trustpilot Rating: 3.4/5

Due to Betfair's popularity, it is no shock that it is heavily reviewed on Trustpilot. Indeed, there are almost 5,000 ratings of the site and it ranks well at 3.4 stars.

As a general rule of thumb, betting/casino sites are never really dazzling review-wise. So, it sitting this highly is promising.

What isn't great, though, is the fact that the site has a 58% 1-star review average. To put this into context, only 36% of users have given the site four or five stars.

💰 Has Betfair Been Fined by the UKGC?

It is not normal for betting sites to be fined, but Betfair is pretty well known for exactly that. Indeed, EACH of the licenses for the site has been fined at least once, which is not great.

If there is a redeeming factor, it would be that the licenses each got the same fine in December 2025 for social responsibility failures.

Betfair Deposit Methods

Betfair is one of the strongest betting and casino sites when it comes to payments, which the number of deposit options certainly shows. Indeed, there are 11 different methods available to customers. Ranging from traditional payment methods like debit cards to e-wallets, there is something for everyone.

That said, it should be noted that the minimum deposit sits at £30 for all of the e-wallets, while on debit cards, Apple Pay and Instant Banking benefit from a £5 minimum amount. This is something the bookie could improve in the future.

Depositing funds into a Betfair account is very easy, but we have put together a step-by-step guide if you need some assistance:

  • 1

After you have logged in to your account, tap the 'Profile' icon in the top right corner and then 'Deposit' when given the choice.

Next, you will need to insert your payment details, as can be seen below.

Betfair Withdrawal Methods

There are just as many options when it comes to withdrawing funds as when depositing, so we can only praise Betfair for this. It is refreshing to have so many options, and the £5 minimum remaining in place (for the common methods) is lovely.

Furthermore, the ability to withdraw money instantly is a major pull, which is something that was confirmed by our tests of the bookie. Below, we have collected everything you need to know about the withdrawal methods at Betfair:

    Request the Withdrawal

Finally, tap the 'Withdraw' button and wait for your money. We were not left waiting long at all, either. Indeed, the money arrived instantly, which is a fantastic result.

How to Verify an Account at Betfair

When signing up for a bookmaker, there are several details that you are asked to provide. This isn't because Betfair are nosey, but rather they need to know who you are legally.

This is to ensure that you are who you say you are, that you are old enough to gamble and that you are not self-excluded.

If you fail the automatic checks, you can upload any of the following documents to prove your identity:

  • Proof of ID: National Driving License, National ID or Passport (picture page).
  • Proof of Address: Utility bill or bank statement not older than 3 months, showing the 4 corners/edges.

Betfair Sportsbook Review

As you'd expect, Betfair hosts one of the largest sportsbooks in the UK, with just under 30 different options to bet on. Of course, this includes the most notable sports like horse racing and football.

However, it also includes less popular options like netball, ice hockey and Gaelic games. Additionally, special markets, esports and politics are all available.

Whilst there is a lot of good - which we'll get into - we also need to make a point about the value available at Betfair.

Betfair Home

It is no secret that the Betfair Exchange is one of the best platforms of that ilk in the world. However, it does not positively impact the sportsbook. For example, SBK has the lowest betting margins in the UK at around 3%, thanks to its links to an exchange.

With Betfair, however, the betting margins are around the 16.6% mark and that is ridiculous. So much so that it may be worth looking elsewhere, given this is one of the biggest bookmaker 'fees' that we have ever seen.

Overlooking this, the football markets are really solid and there is more than enough to choose from. Whether on a game-by-game basis or the actual in-game markets themselves, the different options are almost endless.

Betfair Football

Put it this way, if you want to create a bet builder, there are worse platforms to use.

With horse racing, a lot of the same praise can be given. Indeed, the range of fixtures is superb with betting available on UK, Irish and international racing. Additionally, the different markets available are really solid.

Suggesting that there are no positives to using Betfair is exaggerating slightly. However, the negatives, at least in our view, significantly outweigh the positives. After all, why bet if the bookmaker is the one winning all the time?

Betfair Casino Review

As we have come to expect from brands making up the Flutter network, Betfair is home to a fantastic casino area. Whether it is live or not, you will be sure to find something to play.

Starting with the standard online casino experience, there are more than 1,000 different slots from different providers. So, if your preference is 'Pragmatic Play', 'Hacksaw Gaming' or 'NetEnt', you will find something for you. Even if they aren't your cup of tea, there will be a provider whose games you enjoy.

With an exceptional range of promotions available, there are some big chances to win jackpots in excess of £1 million. It may be unlikely, but having the opportunity is nice.

Betfair Casino

When it comes to the 'Live' area, the choices are still as vast. The different areas are notable, with game shows given their own section. Additionally, traditional options are offered and each also has its own area.

There is also the option to play poker and bingo with Betfair. Normally, these are reserved for casino-specific sites. So the availability of them at Betfair is another substantial drawing factor.

Betfair App

Betfair's app holds everything that the modern-day punter would want to access. Two of its three branches are available in-house, whilst a link to the exchange is also available. This means that you can quickly access whatever you want, whenever you want.

Navigating around the app is especially easy, thanks to the different menus. Furthermore, the search bar being available in the casino and sportsbook areas means that you can find exactly what you are looking for in seconds.

Promotions are always on display, as are price boosts. In other words, you are sure to be getting value just by using the app.

Put it this way, it is not a surprise that the app ranks so highly on both the iOS and Android app stores. It is definitely one of the best apps available.

Betfair Responsible Gambling

Players must have the tools available to them to gamble responsibly. So, Betfair legally must make different things known to customers when using the site or app. This is common across the board, and these are the options:

  • Deposit limits (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Reality check
  • Time-out
  • Self-exclusion
  • And more

When signing up for an account, the first two methods are enforced quite early on. In fact, you cannot turn off reality checks. However, the latter options are seen as more extreme preventative methods.

There is no shame in using either and if you are struggling with your gambling, please seek assistance.

Betfair Customer Support

Customer support can be a make-or-break for bookmakers and Betfair ranks decently in this area, even if the support options are somewhat limited.

An extensive FAQ section is available and whilst it is pre-sectioned into different areas, you can also search for any queries which you may need assistance with.

Alternatively, you can speak to Betfair via the live chat. Unfortunately, this is the only peer-to-peer method of contact. Nevertheless, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

In fact, we spoke to an advisor almost instantly when testing the area, so the site makes up for the lack of other options. It would be nice if an email or contact phone line were available, but it is not the end of the world.

Betfair is great for a lot of things and I mostly use their exchange. But recently been making a killing on the Stats Betting market they have. Betting on players to have 1 or 2 shots on target and the odds are often miss priced if a player if playing higher up the pitch than usual. Bouncing between bet365 and betfair has worked for me in the past couple of years
