Thelin has been in charge at Aberdeen for less than a year, but the club has had a lot of turnover in the dugout in recent times. Here's how some recent Aberdeen managers performed:
Warnock was only appointed on an interim basis when he took the job at the start of 2024, but the veteran manager stepped down early after he led the Dons to the Scottish Cup semi-finals. Warnock's departure meant that Thelin became the eighth Aberdeen boss in just three years.
Initially taking charge as caretaker, Robson got the job on a permanent basis after impressing. But while there were highs like a run of seven straight league wins under his watch, things soon went sour and when he was dismissed in January, the Dons were in eighth place in the table. Chairman David Cormack said Robson's results had been "unacceptable" in a club statement.
Robson replaced Goodwin, with a bad 6-0 league loss to Hibernian the final straw for the Dons. With his side having also been thumped by Hearts and had a shock cup defeat against sixth-tier Darvel, a part-time side who played in the West of Scotland League Premier Division at the time, Goodwin's position was untenable on the back of a run of one win in their last 10 games.
Like his predecessors Goodwin and Robson, around a year was all Glass could last in charge. Losing to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup was a fourth loss in five games for the Dons, leading to Glass being shown the door with Aberdeen then sitting in a lowly ninth place in the league table.
Aberdeen have struggled to find a long-term manager since McInnes departed after his mostly successful eight years in charge. McInnes led the Dons to their first trophy in almost 20 years when they won the Scottish League Cup, with the Aberdeen manager taking home both the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and SFWA Manager of the Year prizes. They also qualified for Europe seven years in a row with McInnes, finishing as league runners-up four times in a row.
Ex-Scotland boss Brown left his post due to retirement, with Aberdeen struggling to make much of an impact in the league during his time in charge, though they reached three cup semi-finals.
Former Dons striker McGhee was sacked after a run of sixth straight losses that left Aberdeen only off the bottom of the league table on goal difference. They also lost 9-0 to Celtic in his spell.
Aberdeen performed well under Calderwood, reaching Europe twice in his last three years. He later cited a breakdown in his relationship with then-director of football development Willie Miller for a shock departure after a long five-year spell that included a third-placed finish in the league.
While the next Aberdeen manager betting odds are currently not available, here are some contenders:
Lennon publicly declared his interest in the Dons job when Warnock left and the former Celtic manager's name is likely to be in the frame again when a replacement for Thelin is required.
Lennon confirmed he held talks with Aberdeen but opted to move to Romania, taking the Rapid Bucharest job, but he lasted just three months. Lennon has also been dismissed by the Cypriot First Division side Omonia since his second spell in charge of Celtic came to an end in 2021.
The Northern Irishman won five league titles for Celtic across his seven years at the club in all.
Asking McInnes to return might be an obvious option with the ex-Dons boss again impressing in Scottish football by performing above expectations with Kilmarnock. McInnes has gone on the record saying he wants the Scotland job in the future but a Pittodrie comeback may also appeal.
Neil was among the favourites in the next Aberdeen manager betting odds before Thelin got the job and he would probably be in the running again the next time the role comes up.
The former Preston North End and Norwich City manager has exclusively worked south of the border since leaving Hamilton Academical in 2015 but may be tempted home by a chance to lead the Dons.
St Mirren boss Robinson would surely be on the shortlist having previously taken Motherwell to a pair of cup finals in the same season. The Northern Irishman has got St Mirren performing above expectations and he is regarded as one of the safest pairs of hands in Scottish football.
Leven would be a natural choice to step in as caretaker and if he performs well would be in with a strong shout of getting the Aberdeen job on a permanent basis.
Leven was interviewed for St Johnstone's managerial vacancy recently and was also previously linked with Raith Rovers. It seems likely Leven will step up as a manager in his own right at some point, so why not here?
The Northern Ireland manager was strongly linked with Aberdeen when they needed to replace Warnock, but he is contracted to 2028 and recently said that he wants to continue working with a young group of talent.
Northern Ireland have got a Nations League promotion under their belts under O'Neill and he seems to be satisfied at Windsor Park, in his second spell in charge of NI.
Experienced Scottish manager Ross could throw his hat into the ring but his reputation took a hit after a terrible short spell at Dundee United that included a 9-0 defeat to Celtic and a heavy 7-1 aggregate loss to AZ Alkmaar in a poor Europa Conference League qualifying campaign.
Livingston kept faith with Martindale after relegation and he may want to repay that loyalty. But after a decade at the club, he might be ready to take on a new challenge.
Martindale may have a chequered past but he is respected in the game and has plenty of Scottish Premiership experience, having led Livi to a national cup final appearance as well as two top-six finishes.
Dons fans might not be excited about Kettlewell, but with Motherwell going well in the Scottish Premiership his name would surely be mentioned as a potential Aberdeen next manager.
The former Ross County boss has been criticised for his style of play despite getting good results but deserves credit for the emergence of the exciting young Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller.
