Everton Moved Clear in Premier League Relegation Odds, but a 2-Point Deduction Brings Them Back Again.

Everton's first victory of 2024 had substantially lengthened their Premier League relegation betting odds as the Toffees moved up to 15th place in the table with seven games to play. But a 2-point deduction was announced, bringing them down to 16th and only two points above the relegation zone.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin charged down a clearance by Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric to score the only goal at Goodison Park on Saturday, earning Sean Dyche a key win against his old side.

Dara O'Shea's red card added to the Clarets' woe as their four-game unbeaten run ended, leaving them six points adrift and staring down the barrel of being relegated next month. Everton's last Premier League victory had also come against Burnley back in December, and despite a poor performance their relegation fears have been significantly eased as a result.

Dyche's men are now 5/1 in the Premier League relegation odds, but they have work to do. Burnley, meanwhile, are now 1/14 to be relegated back to the Championship, having cruised to promotion from that division last term. Discipline has been an issue for Vincent Kompany's side all season, with O'Shea's dismissal their seventh this term.

Sheffield United have one more game to play than Burnley, but their hopes of avoiding the drop are even more remote. The Blades twice came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea on Sunday, with Oli McBurnie's late penalty salvaging pride for Chris Wilder's men.

The Yorkshire side are 1/200 in the Premier League relegation odds. Although they have drawn three of their past four matches, relegation seems increasingly certain for Sheffield United now.

With the Blades and Clarets highly likely to be playing second-tier football next term, an almighty scrap to avoid joining them is ongoing. Luton Town are still in the drop zone despite a priceless comeback against Bournemouth at the weekend, sealed by Carlton Morris' late goal.

That 2-1 victory was Luton's first in the league for more than two months. Only goal difference is keeping them in the relegation zone, but their next league match is away to Manchester City. Luton are 8/13 in the Premier League relegation odds ahead of that daunting test next week.

Just above Luton in the table are Nottingham Forest, who lost 3-1 at Tottenham on Sunday. Forest host Wolves on Saturday, hoping a positive result will affect their current price of 2/1 to be relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

The last spot looks like a straight fight between Luton and Forest, but Brentford (20/1 in the Premier League relegation odds) are not yet safe after the Bees drew 3-3 away to Villa at the weekend.

Crystal Palace fans are also looking over their shoulder. A 4-2 loss at home to Premier League title favourites Manchester City leaves the Eagles winless in five and 20/1 to be relegated.
