Proper Bet is a new independent gambling site that launched in mid-August 2026, using Playbook Gaming's tech and its own licence (100990).
In this review, we put the site to the test by signing up, verifying our account, depositing real money, placing bets and withdrawing funds.

As a new bookmaker, Proper Bet may deserve some leeway for not being the best option on the market. Yet we also need to be completely honest about where the site currently stands.
If you've used a Playbook Gaming site before, you won't find many (if any) core differences. After all, it features the same sportsbook, interface and casino, so you're getting a very similar experience to the sister sites. Yet, the upsides aren't as noticeable.
The price boosts don't feel like a huge focus, there isn't the option to deposit (or withdraw) as little as £1, navigation feels more difficult here than it does on most of its sister sites, and above all, we had to wait more than a month to get our account (due to verification issues). So, for those reasons, it scores lower than most.
Of course, this is fully sortable and we expect new sites to have problems. Proper Bet, though, has just a few too many issues for it to just be 'new site niggles'.
About Proper Bet
Proper Bet is one of the newer betting sites in the UK, having launched in August 2026, but you wouldn't really see it as a 'new' site. It looks and feels like an option with experience and that is thanks to Playbook Gaming, which is its platform partner.
If you've never used a Playbook Gaming site, you'll be in safe hands, with a solid sportsbook and casino offered to players. We often find that the margins are quite nice too, so history suggests that you're likely to have a good experience here.
We wanted to see if that hypothesis was true, putting Proper Bet to the test across the board. Over a few days, we tested the casino, sportsbook, deposit and withdrawal process (and more) to see how it fared against other UK sportsbooks.
Is Proper Bet Safe and Legit?

Proper Bet doesn't have a home on a Playbook Gaming license but instead has its own with the UKGC under Proper Bet Limited (account number 100990). This is not an uncommon practice and if anything, it's a good thing.
Having its own license shows that it has its own security and records, so if any changes need to be made, there is the ability to do so.

We give new sites a grace period with their Trustpilot rating and with Proper Bet, it's no different. Having only been around for a few months, there haven't been enough reviews to fairly score it yet.
For now, though, a few assessments are worrying, with claims of not being paid and issues with communication with the site.
💰 Has Proper Bet Been Fined by the UKGC?
Given that it is a new site on a brand-new license, we'd be shocked if Proper Bet had been fined by the UKGC. Thankfully, our assumptions were correct, as it hasn't been fined or warned and has a clean bill of health.
Proper Bet Deposits
It's fair to say that Playbook Gaming sites are never too generous with the payment methods offered. Unfortunately, Proper Bet is another example of this being the case.
We can be a bit more understanding, thanks to its recent launch, but only offering debit cards and Apple Pay is not good enough. The lack of an e-wallet option, like PayPal, is a major blow. Even the instant bank transfer option would be appreciated.
Having a £5 minimum deposit amount is something of a redeeming factor, but there is a lot left to be desired here, especially considering some of its sisters have a £1 minimum deposit amount.

How to Deposit at Proper Bet
Below, we have put together a step-by-step guide for adding funds to an Proper Bet account.

Click on 'Deposit'
After logging in to your Proper Bet Account, tap the 'Profile' menu, then choose the 'Deposit' option to enter the cashier.

Enter the Amount
Once here, you will be asked to enter an amount to deposit, so enter your preferred amount or use one of the preselected options. Then, tap 'Deposit'.

Choose Payment Method
From here, you'll be taken to a separate window, where you'll need to select your payment method. After making your selection, simply enter the details and confirm the deposit.
Proper Bet Withdrawals
If deposits weren't great, withdrawals are unfortunately not much better. In fact, they may even be worse, with only debit cards accepted. However, it could just be because we only deposited with a debit card, thus removing Apple Pay by virtue of regulations.
A minimum withdrawal amount of £5 is fine, but the area is generally off-putting. Especially when some of its sister sites offer £1 deposits and withdrawals...
Receiving our money wasn't the slowest process. In our test, it took one hour and 21 minutes to be paid out, so there are a few upsides.
However, it's certainly not the quickest option we have tested. All in all, you'd not be making a Proper Bet account for its payment situation.

How to Withdraw Funds From Proper Bet
Below, we have collected everything you need to know about withdrawals at Proper Bet.

Enter the Cashier
When you're ready to withdraw your funds from Proper Bet, simply head back to the 'Account' page and then tap 'Withdraw'.

Enter the Withdrawal Amount
Your withdrawal method will default to the last used deposit method. However, you can change this with the drop-down menu, provided you've used more than one method.
For most people, it's simply a case of entering your desired withdrawal amount and hitting the "Withdraw" button.

Wait for the Withdrawal
Finally, you will need to wait for the funds to arrive. Proper Bet suggests it could take two business days, but this was not the case for us. Instead, we had our money in just under an hour and a half.
Proper Bet Sportsbook Review
With Proper Bet using the Playbook Gaming sportsbook, there is a vague idea of what's going to be available. Indeed, the sites rarely stray from the 'standard' offerings, which is the case here.
In terms of offerings, there are more than 20 different sports to choose from and this includes the big UK options like football, horse racing, darts and more. However, you're also given a nice range of specials, politics and television markets.
It's also worth adding that the betting margins are pretty solid. We took scores from an average weekend of Premier League fixtures and found an average margin of 6.48%. Even when looking away from the Prem, the markets didn't become much differently priced.
For example, League Two had an average of 8.01% and the Turkish Super Lig - picked at random - had a margin of 7.2%. In other words, it's around 7% on average, which is pretty solid.
⚽ Football Offering
Football appears to be the 'headline' sport for Proper Bet, being the first option shown when entering the app or site. However, navigating the area is made more difficult than it needs to be.
Once you have entered the dedicated area, you're shown a list of featured matches with little order to them. So, it can be rather confusing to get around the different fixtures. A 'Competition' filter is offered, but this is still ordered a little poorly, at least in our view.
As mentioned, the odds are pretty solid across the board and the range of competitions is vast, with leagues from Morocco, Slovakia and Vietnam available, just to name some of the rogue ones.
Unfortunately, Early Payout is not offered on any game, which is something of an own goal. Most bookmakers now offer it as a given. So, not having it available will understandably put some off.
It is pretty competitive with its bet builder options, with fouls committed, fouls won, shots, headers, and many other novelty markets offered. Yet, getting around this section, again, is pretty tedious. There are better examples of this being done well.
🏇 Horse Racing Offering
With racing, things are pretty simplistic, but this is unfortunately the case across all of Playbook Gaming's sites.
There are some nice features, such as a price history graph and a race overview, as well as the ability to stream the races, but that's about it.
Barring the aforementioned positives, you're not accessing an area with loads of depth and the markets show as much, with only Win, Each-Way and Forecast/Tricast options available.
It's basic and that's not always bad. You'd hardly be rushing to Proper Bet to punt on horses, though.
Proper Bet Casino Review
Playbook Gaming usually does pretty well when it comes to the casino area of its sites and it's no different at Proper Bet.
Casino is not the priority, but the experience is still solid enough. That said, if you're coming here for a casino product, you're looking for the wrong thing. Instead, it's a nice add-on to a product which should only improve with time.
In terms of the casino itself, the library is quite broad. However, it's somewhat deceptive, with only a few operators available. After a bit of research, we could only find offerings from 'Pragmatic Play' and 'Fat Panda'.
Now, this combination does offer a fantastic range of games, especially with Pragmatic Play being one of the biggest - if not the biggest - casino providers in the UK. Most of your favourite games will be available; if not, there'll be remakes of them. Nevertheless, the lack of variety in the providers is a bit disappointing.
Pragmatic also provides the majority of the table games and live casino options, so whilst you're getting quality, you're not exactly getting a range of options.
It's understandable why a new site may only offer a few providers, especially with it not being the focus. Yet, it could be worked on and it's a downside of the site, definitely.
Proper Bet Mobile App
At the time of writing, Proper Bet did not have a mobile app available. However, we can't say that we were shocked by this.
With it being a new bookmaker, there is normally a bit of time until an app becomes available - as we have seen with some of its sisters - so we're not going to mark the site down here yet.
It's worth noting that Proper Bet is easy to use on mobile or laptop, so you're not getting a worse experience, per se.
Nevertheless, the lack of an app may be off-putting for some, so we have created a list of our favourite betting apps if this is a dealbreaker for you.
Proper Bet Responsible Gambling
In the bottom banner of the site, there are several nods to responsible gambling, which automatically offer some reassurance.
At first, there is a 'Safer Gambling' link in the 'Useful Links' section. However, there is also a 'Safer Gambling' section too. In this area, there are several gambling helplines and charities offered, meaning you're always able to access help through the site.
Tapping the GambleAware logo, for example, takes you to the home page of the site and means you can browse the site for any assistance.
In terms of the tools available on Proper Bet's site, there are plenty to choose from. Deposit limits and reality checks are enforced by the site when signing up, but there are also some more extreme options.
For example, you can give yourself a 'Play Break', excluding you from using certain features of the site for a period. Alternatively, you can use the 'Self Exclusion' tool, which is more of a long-term option.
Interestingly, there is also the option of a 'Product Block', where you can stop access to different sections of the site, or even specific markets.
Proper Bet takes safer gambling very seriously, as every bookmaker should.
Proper Bet Customer Support

We always recommend starting with the FAQs area, but Proper Bet's answer to this is a page of text without a search bar or navigation tools.
In other words, it's not the best answer if you're looking for a quick fix.
Unfortunately, speaking to support is not possible on the site. So, you'll be forced to use social media or email them. The lack of a live chat is rather frustrating, admittedly. It's an area which can - and should - be improved.

Navigate to Proper.Bet and Hit 'Sign Up'
Navigate to Proper.Bet using one of our dedicated links. Once there, you will see a "Sign Up" option located in the top-right corner. The green 'Join Us' button was also available for us.

At first, you'll be asked to provide an email address and a password for your account, which is pretty standard. Additionally, you'll be asked if you have a promo code; if you do, enter it here. Then, tap 'Create Account'

Enter Your Personal Information
Following this, you'll be asked to provide some personal information to identify you and help with the Know Your Customer process. So you'll need to provide the following:

- Name
- Date of Birth
- Mobile phone number
- Address, including postcode

Wait For Verification
Once done - at least from our experience - you will receive an email asking for some Know Your Customer documents. This is where the issues start, unfortunately.
After submitting our documents, we expected to hear back within a day, maybe a few days at most. Yet, we waited for longer than a month, 36 days to be precise.
This is simply not good enough. However, we did eventually get access to our account; hopefully it's quicker for you.

The interface seemed solid however the variety of online casino games they have aren’t extensive. As for the customer support and withdrawal process, it’s incredibly slow and communication is poor throughout. Their social media has limited presence/activity. It’s put me off using them again moving forward and I’d advise others to steer clear also.
