Next Manchester United Manager Betting Tips & Analysis

After the very long reign of Sir Alex Ferguson and the trophy-laden years the Scot delivered, Manchester United have struggled for consistency and cohesion when it comes to managers.

Erik ten Hag entered his third year in charge of United after being handed a contract extension going into the 2024-25 season, but speculation over his position remains in the background.

Talk over who could replace the Dutchman in the dugout at Old Trafford will continue, especially if he appears unlikely to improve on last season's eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

Let's take a look at the potential candidates from the next Manchester United manager odds.

  • Gareth Southgate - 9/4

Chatter about Southgate being a contender to become Manchester United's new manager has been around for a while, with speculation intensifying after he opted to leave the England job.

Southgate did not particularly impress during his previous club job with Middlesbrough, but he enhanced his reputation by leading England to successive European Championship finals. The Englishman might not be the best tactician in the business but he has shown he can motivate his players well and he has a ruthless streak that is necessary at a massive club like United.

Southgate is said to have a good relationship with Dan Ashworth from his time at the FA and also gets on well with Sir Dave Brailsford, who has worked with new owner Jim Ratcliffe. The links may primarily come from those strong relationships, but Southgate to United makes sense.

  • Mauricio Pochettino - 5/1

Having been sacked by Chelsea after just a single season at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino is a high-profile manager who is out of work and knows the Premier League inside out, having also had successful spells in charge of both Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. As such, he would likely be a very appealing option for United should the need to replace Ten Hag arise.

Pochettino has long been linked with United but reports indicate he could soon be named the new manager of the United States ahead of the USMNT being co-hosts of the next World Cup.

  • Ruud van Nistelrooy - 6/1

United bolstered their staff with the appointment of former Red Devils striker Van Nistelrooy over the summer, with the Dutchman also having been strongly linked with the vacancy at Burnley.

The 48-year-old impressed during his first senior job at PSV Eindhoven and would appear to be the obvious internal candidate should the board pull the trigger on his compatriot Ten Hag.

  • Thomas Tuchel - 8/1

Former Chelsea manager Tuchel reportedly ruled himself out of the running for the Manchester United job after holding talks with owner Ratcliffe in the south of France during the summer.

Having left Bayern Munich after a difficult spell in charge, Tuchel was said to prefer taking a break from the game, but it is not impossible he could be interested in taking over at United having had the chance to recharge his batteries. Having a Champions League title on his record is sure to impress United but Tuchel has a reputation of being a difficult manager to work with.

  • Kieran McKenna 8/1

A lot of Old Trafford eyes will be on Ipswich Town this season as their former coach McKenna attempts to keep the Tractor Boys in the Premier League after sealing successive promotions.

McKenna was linked with a series of Premier League jobs after the 2023-24 season but he opted to stay loyal to Ipswich and even signed a lucrative new four-year contract at the club.

  • Roberto de Zerbi - 20/1

Former Brighton boss De Zerbi was also a man in demand during the summer break, with his move to Marseille raising some eyebrows. De Zerbi earned plaudits for his style of play during his time in charge of the Seagulls and many clubs will be watching his progress in Ligue 1.

  • Thomas Frank - 20/1

Frank was linked with United when it seemed Ten Hag would depart after the 23-24 season and the Brentford boss continues to impress with one of the smallest clubs in the Premier League.

However, the Bees play a more direct style of football than United fans are accustomed to and while Frank might be tactically versatile, this is something that could count against his chances. Frank previously described rumours linking him to United as "disrespectful".

  • Graham Potter - 25/1

Potter was linked to a handful of Premier League vacancies over the summer but he remains out of work following a bruising period in charge of Chelsea where he struggled amid the chaos.

The Englishman - said to be a contender to replace Southgate as England manager - has given interviews suggesting he is ready to take his next job after more than a year out of the game.

United might be attracted by his possession-based tactics but Potter's problems at Stamford Bridge may indicate he is more suited to a club job where there are lower expectations.

  • Long Shots in the next Manchester United Manager Odds

It seems likely that the next Manchester United manager will be one of the men detailed above, but there are other options that the Red Devils could consider when a vacancy next comes up.

Like Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane (33/1) has long been linked with United, but it is unclear where the Frenchman sees his future. Many in the game believe his next job will be in charge of the France national side, but after three Champions League titles in a row with Real Madrid, his experience at the top of the domestic game could see United offer him a Premier League move.

Antonio Conte (40/1) is vastly experienced and has Premier League success on his CV from his time at Chelsea. But he often falls out with his bosses and only recently joined Napoli in his native Italy. Returning to England might be appealing for the former Juventus manager, though.

Ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery (40/1) has enhanced his reputation by leading Aston Villa to the Champions League. Having had European success with Sevilla in the past, he could be a strong option should the decision-makers at United opt for someone in the Premier League.

Among the former United players who continue to be touted as potential future managers of the club, Michael Carrick (40/1) likely needs more experience if he is to be in the frame. Carrick has done fine work at Middlesbrough but is yet to manage a match in the Premier League, which will count against him. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (66/1) will surely not be invited back.

Carlo Ancelotti (66/1) has led some of the biggest clubs on the planet and almost left Real Madrid for Brazil. At 65, the iconic Italian is approaching the end of his career, however, and would likely not be deemed a long-term option to be the next manager of Manchester United.

Of the long shots in the next Manchester United manager odds, Eddie Howe (50/1) looks like an intriguing option who could prove good value in the betting. Howe has done great work at both Bournemouth and Newcastle United, but has been strongly linked to the England job.
