The eighth game of the 2026/27 Championship season has now been and gone. So, that means we can look back on the table and odds as they are, and see what the market is saying about Matchday 8.
Let's dive in!
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to win the league in the 2026/27 Championship season.
The Dockers Derby is a proper football rivalry and after not meeting for 12 years, it was guaranteed to be a good game. However, when title favourites went two down to Millwall, there were questions about the mettle of the Irons.
Two second-half goals, though, made it clear that West Ham can struggle and still get results. Perhaps the game of the weekend, the Hammers will be annoyed that they dropped points against a rival. The style of their comeback will be discussed for a while, though.
It's clear that the bookmakers still think that they're nailed on for promotion too, putting them at 11/10 to win the Championship.
If West Ham were happy with their win against Millwall, Wolves would have been left ecstatic. Another proper derby, West Brom made the trip through the Black Country to Wolverhampton, hoping to slow their rivals' title challenge.
They were unable to do so, though, as Fer Lopez scored the only goal of the game for Wolves. The Molineux-based outfit have now taken 10 points from their last 15 and have a game in hand - against Portsmouth - it's not wrong to suggest that they could lead the league once they're back on level terms.
Bookmakers across the UK have them at 5/1 for the league title, which could drop shortly...
Middlesbrough are still very much in the title conversation, but they're keeping it a conversation currently. They've drawn their past two games on the bounce and drawn three of their last five, yet they still sit on 15 points.
Had they won either, they'd sit joint-first. If they won both, there would be no one alongside them. It's early doors, but we've seen Boro look good before to be let down by themselves in recent years.
The signs are there again this season. They must disappear. If they do, the 13/2 for them to win the league will disappear quickly.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 8 in the 2026/27 Championship season.
They're not the favourites for a Top Six or even a Top Eight spot just yet, but Swansea cannot move from the top spot of this section. Why? Well, because they're sitting somewhat clear at the top of the Championship table.
This weekend, it was a somewhat routine win against Lincoln, where they came from behind to grab three points on the road. It wasn't pretty, but it didn't need to be. After all, to be on 17 points from eight games, you must be doing something right.
With 10 points from their last 15 available, they're in a fantastic spot.
Southampton were always well backed for a Top Eight spot this season, even with their points deduction. Yet, they're now the fourth favourites for the season, first ignoring the three teams fighting for the title.
The loss this weekend was only their second in the league this season and whilst they sit a few points away from the play-offs, they'll surely get there. A defeat to Wrexham is not the worst result ever and it's not going to derail them.
At 3/10 for a Top Eight spot, it's probably not worth backing them at this moment...
We've discussed the Dockers Derby already, but if any team is to be disappointed with the result (or more disappointed), it'll be Millwall. They had a two-goal lead and let it slip; it cannot be worded any differently.
Looking at it objectively, the Lions would've taken a point before the game. However, recent form meant they had to win when they went two goals up. Now, they've taken just five points from their last 15 available... It's not great.
They're 5/4 for a Top Eight spot with BetVictor and they're still very much in the conversation, but they need to start turning draws into wins again.
Given how wide the play-off race is, it's best to look at the league generally here and cover a few teams quickly.
Starting with West Brom, the defeat to Wolves will hurt, but they won't be too disappointed. After all, they still sit fifth and have only lost to their rivals and Middlesbrough. It's not a bad place to be at all and it's understandable why they're backable at 5/6 with most of the best football bookmakers for a play-off spot.
Norwich, unfortunately, haven't got an in-between. They either win or lose and that's a worry. With nine points from eight games - three wins and five losses - they must start turning losses to draws at least. It's a worry and I'd not be backing them at below Evens, as they stand.
Birmingham, on the other hand, need to turn their draws to wins. They've drawn five times from eight games so far this season and are backable at Evens with Ladbrokes and its sister sites. If they can convert a little more, they'll be a big threat to the Top Eight.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2026/27 Championship season.
It's been a rough season so far for Preston, so the decision was taken to part ways with Paul Heckingbottom. The decision was almost proven to be the right one straight away, as they went two goals up against QPR.
However, the lack of quality in the squad showed as they conceded twice to drop points. A solid draw away from home, definitely, but they have problems and it's no surprise why they're the favourites to go down this season at 8/11.
A Sunday seven-goal thriller, the English Football League really gave us a nice weekend, especially with Manchester City taking part in their own eight-goal game. It was a weekend for Lancashire sides, too, with Bolton taking the win in their classic against Norwich.
You rarely leave a game like that with positives and negatives, and whilst you can celebrate the Whites' goals, there are concerns at the back. Yet, they've won their past two on the bounce and the tide may be turning a little bit.
It says a lot that they're 6/4 to go down and not below Evens...
For Lincoln, it was another loss this weekend, but they won't be overly concerned. Before this weekend, they were unbeaten in five and sit six points away from the drop zone. A 2-1 defeat to the current league leaders is a really solid result, as well.
Because of this, bookmakers are pushing their price out for a return to League One and they're now 7/4 with BetVictor (and its sister sites) to go down...
With one team below Evens to go down, it's clear that the relegation picture is pretty wide in the Championship this season. So, let's look at a few of them.
Starting off, we have Burnley, who sit bottom. The Clarets were 20/1 a few weeks ago for the drop, but they're now as low as 9/1 to go down. Betfred are still offering 16/1, so it could be worth considering that price, given the other prices offered...
After their play-off push last season, Derby are now facing relegation, with PricedUp and its sister sites around 5/2 for them to go down this season. Their draw with Burnley this weekend was far from promising; both look pretty awful...
Cardiff must be mentioned, even if they are 7/2 for the drop. They hammered Charlton this weekend, hence the increase in price, but it was only their first win of the season and I'm not so convinced that they'll be staying up just yet.
Finally, Watford are in a little bit of danger. They've taken just four points from their last 18 available and there isn't much to say that'll be changing any time soon. That win against Southampton on the opening day looks more and more like an anomaly, with their only other victory coming against Preston. Does anything more need to be said?
They're somehow 9/2 for the drop; I'm surprised that isn't lower right now.
