The second week of the 2026/27 Championship season has now been and gone. So, that means we can look back on the table and odds as they are, and see what the market is saying about Matchday 2.
Let's dive in!
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to win the league in the 2026/27 Championship season.

We're still very early into the season, so we cannot take too much from the results so far. Nevertheless, you'd have a few questions about some of the performances and results so far.
After a late draw last week, Wolves were given a nice opportunity to go one better against Preston on Matchday Two and they did so. Winning by three goals to one away from home is a very solid result indeed.
They may be a little annoyed to have given away a clean sheet - conceding in the 92nd minute - but you'd not feel too aggrieved in their position with goals now coming in.
A brace from Fer Lopez and another from Championship talisman Adam Armstrong was enough for three points and they're probably the most comfortable looking of the relegated trio from the Premier League right now.
Last weekend's draw against Burnley was acceptable, but the Hammers needed to get three points here to make up for it, especially against a local rival in Charlton. However, they didn't.
Falling two goals behind to the Addicks is a really poor situation and whilst new signing Joel Piroe got one back, it wasn't enough. It's a poor start to life in the second tier for a side who were expected to win the division.
They're still around the 2/1 mark to lift the title, with the best football betting sites, so it's not the end of the world. However, they need to start getting some wins on the board.
Heading back up to Lancashire, Middlesbrough travelled to Ewood with the hopes of winning a second game on the bounce. Yet, they were unable to do so, falling to Blackburn Rovers.
This time, it was them who took the lead before Rovers turned the game on its head, scoring twice in six minutes.
It's a great result for the Lancashire outfit, less so for Boro, of course. It's still early doors, though, and they already have points on the board.
Finally, we should look at Burnley, who were the fourth favourites to win the league in pre-season. However, you'd struggle to justify that position right now. Indeed, after their acceptable draw to West Ham, they'd have been expected to beat West Brom.
Instead, they were given somewhat of a battering, with the Baggies running out 3-1 victors. The Clarets opened the scoring inside the first 10, but goals from Harry Whitwell and Isaac Price were enough for the Baggies.
Like West Ham, it's early days still, but a turnaround is needed if they're to be title contenders.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 8 in the 2026/27 Championship season.
Of course, the teams in this section could fight for the title, just as the teams in the first section may find a home in the top eight in 20 games time. That's the beauty of the Championship.
Nevertheless, we're basing this section on the odds and my predictions, so we'll try get a nice mix.
As it stands, Millwall are the league leaders, opening the 2026/27 season with two wins. It's a near perfect start for the Lions who are showing that they mean business after coming so close last season.
They opened with a big win against Bristol City on the first day and now they've backed it up with another three points (and three goals) against Norwich, who are another play-off contender.
It's one of the best starts we've seen in the Championship recently, when considering who they've beaten and how. Indeed, five goals scored and none conceded is very solid indeed.
Despite this opening, BetMGM still have them at 11/10 for a Top Eight spot, whilst they're 5/1 for promotion with LadBrokes. The former looks a great price and at this rate, the latter price could also be nice.
For Norwich, it's two defeats in a row. With five goals conceded already, there's a feeling similar to last season already and they could already need saving. It's a difficult position to be in. Yet, they remain somewhat favoured for a Top Eight spot at the 13/10 mark.
Oh when the Saints, win their first game, it will be against Stoke City (sorry). Anyways, after a poor defeat on the first match day, Southampton really needed to get three points at home and they did.
Stoke travelled to St. Mary's and were easily dispatched in the end, despite the game being a draw for more than 70 minutes. Two goals inside the first 26 minutes seemed like the only action between the sides.
However, a late double for the hosts was enough to see Stoke aside and the Saints now have -1 point. They're still bottom, but it's a start.
When you look at the promotion odds, Birmingham City are well respected. However, their performances so far have not shown too much reason to be overly excited.
Draws against Sheffield United and most recently Bristol City are solid enough results. However, you wouldn't look at either as a 'big result' at this stage of the season.
I'm not a fan of the price right now, it must be said.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2026/27 Championship season.
I must repeat - but especially here - that the relegation teams could change, and they're already starting to. We're mainly going off the odds and results here, just because it's so early in the season.
When they were promoted, most thought that Lincoln could be in real trouble and, well, here we are. They are not in a great position currently, especially after a loss to Portsmouth.
It's a heavier defeat than they faced on the opening day and whilst they're scoring goals, they're not looking any more likely to stop conceding them. They're already as low as 1/2 for the drop.
Preston's defeat to Bolton Wanderers was somewhat acceptable from the outside looking in. Newly promoted side getting one over on a rival, it makes sense.
Now, you could say the same here, it's a relegated side from the Premier League. Fair enough. However, they didn't even look like threatening Wolves. They created just 0.58xG in the game and had two shots on target. That's dismal.
Already the second favourites for relegation, it could be a long season for the Lilywhites.
For Sheffield United, it's been a strange start to the season. They're without a goal so far (for or against) and it's a difficult one to decipher. However, they need to be discussed.
Right now, they're facing a points deduction - similar to the one that sunk Sheffield Wednesday last season - and if that were to be the case, would they be able to turn it around.
At this stage, I'd suggest probably not... It's no surprise that they're 7/2 to go down.
When you look at the general relegation picture, you have Bolton as the third favourites for the drop, but four points from two games would have you thinking they might be alright so far.
Cardiff's two points from two games is solid enough - especially with them drawing to Derby and Wrexham so far - they're in a good spot, if anything. Then, you have Charlton, who are as high as 4/1 to stay up, currently!
After beating West Ham comfortably, though, you'd be silly to back them right now I think.
