The PGA Tour continues this weekend in the California desert for the very unpredictable but unique, American Express. The tournament returns for the second straight year with three par 72 courses on the rotation. A mixture of PGA Tour professionals and amateurs will play three different golf courses from Thursday to Saturday before a 54-hole cut. The remaining 70 players plus ties will advance to Sunday and play the Pete Dye-designed Stadium course at PGA West.
Four of the last six winners of this event have all been upwards of 100/1, adding to the interesting opportunities this tournament creates. Last year's winner Nick Dunlap held off two Ryder Cup players to win at odds of 400/1 to become the first amateur to win on the PGA tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991.
The 27-year-old Englishman looks as though he's starting to find his feet on the PGA Tour after a tremendous start to this season. With two top-10 finishes in the first two events of the year, he is currently sitting 10th in the FedEx Cup rankings, although it's still early days. It was all positive though for Hall and if it wasn't for two lackluster final rounds in both of the first two tournaments then he could have been in the mix for a second PGA Tour victory.
All 3 of these courses are some of the shortest on the PGA Tour, so for someone like Hall that's very beneficial as he isn't among the biggest hitters on Tour although he's certainly not short himself. Early stats suggest he is scoring well, he's ranked 14th in strokes gained total and 13th in birdie average. If he keeps up his good start to this season then he'll certainly be in the mix here especially as he's always been such a good putter.

The ever-consistent South African will compete in his 100th PGA Tour event at The American Express and has made 77/99 cuts before this. In 2024 he had 12 top 25 finishes in 23 events played including a second place finish at this event.
Another player who doesn't hit the ball a long way off the tee, but is very consistent in other areas of his game. He was 18th in strokes gained Putting last season and had a Greens in Regulation Percentage of 80.56%.
Although he's never won on the PGA Tour, a Golf course like this should really suit someone like Bezuidenhout, especially as he is so good around the greens and you'll certainly need to score high and post low scores to win this one.
The 46-year-old American is a veteran on the PGA Tour but has won 9 times in his career. He was a regular contender at this event, twice finishing second and never finishing outside the top 25 between 2009 and 2015. He's only played this event twice since then but if he keeps his driver straight and his irons dialed in, this could be the perfect course for him.
He showed great signs at the back end of last season with 5 top 25s after starting the year with 9 missed cuts in 11 starts. He finished the 2024 season ranked 29th in strokes gained putting which should hopefully put his putting woes behind him.
Kuchar has a great record and experience on Dye courses, with wins at the Players Championship and at Harbour Town. He also bagged two top 10s in many appearances at Whistling Straights and both were in Major Championships. This could well be a great chance for Matt Kuchar to win once again, especially after a very solid 21st-place finish last week at the Sony Open.
