Read our expert insights, predictions and tips for the 2026/27 La Liga season as we look at odds for the winner, relegation and the top goalscorer, as well as a 1-20.
With La Liga starting next week, we are back to take a look at the Spanish top flight with a few outright prices of note.
Last season, we had a pretty good run of things, getting 4/8 predictions right. Overall, we had a solid season, too, with 38% of our outright predictions coming in.
The odds are difficult in La Liga, it must be said, so this isn't really the best league for value. However, that isn't putting us off making our predictions. There just be won't be as many selections as other leagues.
It is also important to note that all predictions are made with the current state of teams and potential arrivals/departures.
It's, again, a two-horse race for the La Liga title this season. Last time out, I said it would be Barcelona to win the league and there's certainly a part of me that wants to stick with them again.
However, I think I'm just about leaning towards the title ending up in Real Madrid's trophy cabinet.
The appointment of Jose Mourinho is certainly an interesting one, but he has worked in big dressing rooms throughout his career. Now, we're not on about talented dressing rooms here, but big personalities.
Every member of that Madrid squad wants to play for the best club in the world by being the best in the world, so there can be clashes, as we have seen in recent years.
However, that is why I like the appointment of Mourinho so much. Then you've got Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior coming off of excellent World Cup runs.
Even if Vini departs, you've still got a fantastic attack from just those two, and then you consider the likely signing of Yann Diomande and it stacks up.
Defensively, the additions of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries look great, especially at a combined cost of €75 million. Bernardo Silva is another fantastic signing, too.
I think you can say they've improved substantially this summer and that bodes well for Los Blancos' chances this season.
Barcelona are, of course, fantastic and the amount of quality in their squad is ridiculous. However, I think they could be lacking a few goals this season after the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford.
If anything is to cost them this season, it'll be that. I have just a touch more faith in Real Madrid's squad and that is why I'm sitting on this side of the fence.
Below is our pick for the top end of the 2026-27 La Liga season. Odds were correct at the time of writing.
Real Madrid. Barcelona. Atletico Madrid.
It's worth giving a nod to Atleti here, simply because I've not mentioned them yet. However, those three are a shoo-in for the top four again this year. With the latter, they've spent €100 million so far this summer, and it is difficult to really look past their squad for third.
Of course, the loss of Antoine Griezmann could cause a bit of a stir-up, but they've replaced him well this summer. In addition to this, their record last season was massively hindered by their run in the Champions League and them having the license to effectively drop their La Liga campaign for a chance of European silverware.
Dare I say that 2/7 looks like value with the big two both priced at 1/40+ for a top four spot?
For what it's worth, you can also get 4/6 for them to win La Liga without Real and Barca - effectively for them to finish third - and I don't mind that either after their summer business.
Now, we move onto the fourth spot and this is where things get rather interesting. Outside of the trio, the shortest odds are around 3/1 and it's no surprise, really.
I'm not going to stray from that price bracket, though. Indeed, my pick here is for Real Betis to take the final spot in the top four and that's priced at 11/4 with BetTom - which is a new bookmaker, and we reviewed it recently.
In the second half of last season, Betis picked up 32 points from 20 games falling behind only Valencia and the big two in that regard, and they have not lost any major pieces of their team this summer.
The signings of Facundo Bernal and Fran Garcia look pretty solid on paper and one would argue that could well be all they needed to get into the top four this season after a fifth-placed finish last year.
Below are our picks for the top four race in the 2026-27 La Liga season. Odds were correct at the time of writing.
Looking at the relegation picture, things are not as simple as you'd like them to be really. Last season, eight points separated ninth and 19th. The season before, it was eight points separating 10th and 18th.
In other words, the margins are so fine and whilst there is normally one 'throwaway' team, picking the others is not so simple.
Going down bottom, I've got Levante who were lucky enough to stay up last season on their head-to-head record. However, I think they may have ridden their luck for long enough.
The sale of Carlos Espi to Real Madrid is a huge loss and gambles have been taken to improve the squad. Unfortunately, there is no real quality that has come into the mix...
For the second team, I think Elche could be looking at the drop again. Last season, they stayed up with 43 points - again, we're looking at fine margins here - and I don't know whether they'll be so lucky this season.
Having lost each of last season's three top scorers, they look to be in real danger here, with their only replacement being a 25-year-old Fer Nino, who scored seven goals in La Liga 2 last season.
I fear for them and 9/4 is an understandable price.
Finally, I'm going for Malaga to succumb to the drop at 11/10, which is most people's expected 'throwaway' team.
Having been promoted via the play-offs, you'd hope to see them strengthen this summer to prepare for life back in the top flight. However, they have only added two loans and a free move. It's just not enough.
There is nothing really there for me to see them having enough to stay up, considering they didn't blow the second tier away last season. It makes complete sense why they are the favourites to be relegated this season.
It probably will be Kylian Mbappe once again, who has opened at 4/7 with Bet365 to be the La Liga top scorer. However, as I said in my Premier League preview, I'd rather not wait a year for a 4/7.
So, we're going to look for a bit of E/W value...
Last season, 16 goals was enough for an E/W return and the five year average is somewhere around 18 goals. So, we'll be looking around this area - or players I hope can get around there!
Starting off, I'm going for Julian Alvarez, who has opened at a huge 20/1. The Atletico striker underwhelmed in La Liga last season, with only eight goals. However, he only made 29 appearances and that massively affected his numbers.
After a poor World Cup, he needs to get back on track and he can do that this season. If he were to place, it would return around 5/2 on the full bet, so it's nice enough.
Then, I really like the look of Ante Budimir to continue his scoring record. Again, we're at the 20/1 mark, so it'd return 5/2 if he were to place. However, he is one of the most consistent scorers in La Liga.
Finishing inside the first four of the La Liga scoring charts in each of the last four seasons, he is almost a guarantee - if such a thing exists in football - so I'm happy to take a chance on him again.
For a little bit of fun, I have also tried to put together my 1-20, which can be seen below. A difficult task indeed, but let's give it a go!
