Tote does not have any direct sister sites through ownership, but there is one site that shares the same sportsbook platform, Fitzdares.
Our experts have also picked out some suitable alternatives, including pool betting options similar to those available on Tote.
Tote is the sole domain operated by TDCO Limited. TDCO Limited are registered to the UKGC under licence number 54779, with an active date of 20 September 2019. That gives them a significant experience in the industry now.
Tote's history runs much, much deeper than that though with the roots of the company dating back to close on 100-years ago. Originally owned by the Government, it was first purchased by Betfred in 2011 before a £115m deal saw TDCO take the reins.
Given its name, you could perhaps bank on Tote being a strong operator where pool betting is concerned, and with horse racing markets in general. It is.
It has excellent coverage of race meets that span around the globe, smart insights from a trusted brand in The Racing Post and live streaming. Of course, it offers that ability to join in with the pool betting too.
It is far from all about totes and horses though. As a sportsbook, the coverage is good. There are 25 different sports to wager against, which is a far from disgraceful variety, and the market depth across those sports is very good too. A high profile football match boasts in excess of 400 markets.
In addition to that, the betting margins on its fixed odds markets come in at 6.3%. That probably sits in the marginally above-average category.
Away from the sportsbook, things could be better. You do have a casino and live casino to play in, albeit it isn't particularly extensive, and the search functionality isn't amazing, and the payment options are pretty weak.
Deposits minimums are no problem at £5 and £10, depending on your desired method, however, that method choice is very limited. Withdrawals are fast, at least; our test took 15 minutes.
Tote provides a really solid platform for both pool and fixed price betting but it is not without its downsides, and is far from perfect - as are most bookmakers.
The best bookmaker is generally a subjective thing, so if you like what you've heard about Tote but are looking for a little bit more, or a little bit different, then these Tote sister sites and alternatives might give you what you need.
As Tote sister sites and alternatives go, Fitzdares is probably the closest match. They are not under the same ownership group, but the sportsbooks are both powered by Amelco. That means there is some real similarities between them, despite holding different appearances at first look.
Whilst the layout is marginally different, the navigation behaves in a comparable way between the two sites, whilst the betting odds are also consistent across the brands. None of this is a bad thing. Manoeuvring around the sites is good, and the betting margins aren’t bad either.
From a sports coverage angle, Fitzdares does have a slight edge courtesy of offering a couple of more low-profile sports. Bandy being an example of one that isn’t available at Tote. The other piece where Fitzdares performs well is with their eSports offering.
There is nothing of note between the brands where payment options are concerned.
BetTom is a lesser-known brand name compared to Tote but it is a solid all-round sportsbook with racing at its heart, across both horses and greyhounds. It makes it a great Tote alternative, albeit with a pool betting option.
The racing coverage comes backed by Best Odds Guaranteed for UK & Irish meets, which is a perk that is becoming less common with newer bookies. From a general race meet coverage point of view though, races are available to bet on around the globe.
Don’t get us wrong though, with 30 different sports available to wager on, BetTom does not put all their eggs in the racing basket.
The football coverage is a good piece of evidence on that front with a vast array of leagues covered and, again, several hundred markets available on high-level fixtures. Betting margins are good too at 5.3%.
Payment options are again not amazing at BetTom with just three methods available – Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay – but you can deposit from just £1.
Withdrawals are almost instant too. With 1,340 games offered in the casino, it ticks that box off as well.
If BetTom is a lesser-known brand then Bet365 is a giant, and it plays in the same space as Tote with options for punters to pool bet.
We’ll come to the sports depths shortly, before we do it is worth highlighting the deposit options. They are a long way clear of the other Tote sister sites we’ve listed here with cards, Apple Pay, eWallets and more available to use.
Deposits are available from £5, and withdrawals hit our bank within an hour during our testing.
On the sports front, there are around 40 different sports to bet on ranging from the expected biggies like horse racing and football, all the way through to lower-profile sports like water polo.
Market depths are strong too with Premier League matches serving up around 250 markets.
Racing is a big feature of Tote betting. Bet365 can battle with the best horse racing bookies around. Live streaming, check. Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish race meets, check. Worldwide meets, check.
We can cover off the add-on of the casino offering too. Bet365’s casino is the best of the bookmakers mentioned here with an extensive game catalogue and market leading search and filter functionality.
