Founded in 1999 as Star Racing, the site later rebranded to its current name, StarSports, showing its focus on entering the wider sports world, rather than being pigeon-holed into just racing.
The StarSports mobile app is available on both iOS and Android, but user ratings vary between the platforms.
The apps are similarly rated, both in terms of reviews themselves and the number of them, so we can get a pretty good grip of how the app is viewed by users from this. However, we also wanted to give it our own score.
So, to find out how well the StarSports app actually performs, you can see our full test and journey further down, as well as screenshots from the process.

If you would like to find out how to register on the StarSports App, you can follow our step-by-step guide below:
Signing up is very easy and can be done via the app or online - which can be easily accessed through our link above. Of course, if you're going to use the app anyway, you might as well sign up through it and get familiar.
To start off, simply enter the details that you would like for your account - your email and password - and then tap the 'Create Account' button.
On the second screen, you will be asked to provide your name and some other personal information, such as your date of birth and telephone number. Then, tap the 'Create Account' option.
In the final step, you will be asked to provide your occupation, which is to gain a little information about your potential earnings for their safer gambling tools.
StarSports' payment methods are not the strongest, and this is rather clear straight away. Customers are only given two options to deposit with: debit cards and instant bank transfers. This means there is a lack of e-wallets like PayPal and convenient solutions like Apple Pay.
However, things are made slightly better by the £1 deposit minimum available on the site. Many would probably accept a higher amount, though, if more methods were available. Below, we have collected everything you need to know about deposits and withdrawals on the StarSports app:
| Payment Method | Min Deposit | Max Deposit | Deposit Fee | Processing Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Visa | £1 | Not specified | No fee | Instant |
Mastercard | £1 | Not specified | No fee | Instant |
Instant Bank Transfer | £1 | Not specified | No fee | Instant |
| Payment Method | Min Withdrawal | Max Withdrawal | Withdrawal Fee | Withdrawal Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Visa | £1 | Not specified | No fee | Instant in our test |
Mastercard | £1 | Not specified | No fee | 24 Hours |
Instant Bank Transfer | £1 | Not specified | No fee | A few minutes |
If you are new to the StarSports app and would like some assistance with depositing funds, you can follow our step-by-step guide below:
Once you have logged in on the site or app, simply look to the top right corner of the screen, and tap the 'Profile' icon, then tap the 'Deposit' option.

Here is where you would normally choose a method, but there are no options, or at least if you don't count the instant bank transfer option. Instead, just insert your deposit amount and continue.
Following this, you will be taken to a payment screen, where you must insert your details. You may also be asked to verify your payment with your bank here too. Once done though, you can begin betting straight away.
If you are unsure about how to withdraw funds on the StarSports app, you can follow our step-by-step instructions below for some assistance:
As we did for the deposit, simply tap the 'Profile' icon in the top right corner, and then tap the 'Withdraw' option shown on the menu.

Once you have entered the cashier, you need to check that your withdrawal method is correct, though there is a selector menu to change payment methods if you would like to use a different card.

Following that, enter how much you would like to withdraw from your account, which can be as little as £1, impressively.
Finally, once the above has been completed, tap the 'Withdraw' button, and you will be taken to a confirmation screen about the payment process beginning. We did not need to wait long at all, though, as the funds were delivered to our Visa account within a minute, which is absurd (in a good way).
Given its name, you can tell immediately that there is a focus on sports betting, which makes sense. However, this is made even more clear when you are actually on the app itself.
After opening the app, you are shown a menu at the bottom of the screen, and this includes the normal options like sports and 'In-Play'. Interestingly, though, 'Football' also has a place among these. We can gather from this that the app wants to push the sport more than others, perhaps.
It is worth noting that we have seen this before with other Playbook Gaming sites like PricedUp, for example. So, this proves the links between the two, which we know exist, thanks to them sharing the same platform provider.
In terms of the markets themselves, punters can scroll through them with ease. Finding different football fixtures and odds can be done in several ways: through the competition drop-down menu or via the date finder.
Using the build-a-bet tool, as well, is an enjoyable experience. Additionally, the app shows 'popular' bets placed by others, which is a mainstay feature on some of the best football betting apps.
Moving away from football, the horse racing betting experience is also solid, with the markets relatively strong for punters. However, adding things like place markets would be nice. For now, though, we can certainly complement things like the live streaming options and horse stats.
Finally, it is worth noting that tapping the 'Sports' option in the bottom menu will allow you to search for different fixtures and events. This feature is regularly available elsewhere. So, the inclusion here is a strong plus, given that it is normally taken for granted.
Accessing the casino on the StarSports app is simple, thanks to the icons on the bottom menu of the app. So, within two clicks, you can be on the app and in the casino, which is what you want.
From there, the area follows the regular Playbook Gaming model, with sections displayed in the same areas. Additionally, the games themselves were all the same, showing that these brands have a focus on certain providers.
Nevertheless, whilst the '20p Roulette' and '3 Wicked Devils' may be the current showpieces, players can still find games from the 'Big Bass Splash' umbrella. ELK Studios games and others from providers like Pragmatic Play are also available.
In other words, you will not be left looking for the more popular games in the casino world, indeed.
Where the app could improve is with the 'Live Casino' options. Gameshows and live table games are provided. However, they are not given their own section of the app, as a standalone, nor are they highlighted in the actual casino area.
This means you will have to manually search for the games or use the search bar to find these options. Considering the popularity of these games, you would expect that StarSports would be a bit more keen to show them off.
So, this is an area that should be improved, we feel. Nevertheless, we cannot be too harsh, given that the casino is not a massive focus of this site anyway.
Should you need help from StarSports, getting it is rather easy. In fact, it can be done in many ways, even from the home screen.
Once you log in to your account, you will be shown a 'Profile' icon in the top right corner, and just next to that, you can enter a live chat. Normally, the process requires you to go into a help section. So, to have this area available immediately is fantastic.
A 'Help and FAQ' area is also available, but it lacks a little. Rather than having a search bar for your questions, you will be greeted with a scrollable text list, which is quite frustrating. You have to find your problem to solve it, rather than just being able to search for help, which is rare.
Given the ease of accessing a live chat, it is not the end of the world. However, this is an area that can be improved, and it would certainly be welcomed.

Having used several of the Playbook Gaming apps before, StarSports neither stands out for good nor bad reasons. In fact, it probably just stands alongside its sister sites, which again means it's pretty average all things considered.
When you think of some of the best betting apps, most will have something to draw you in. Past the minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts, there is not really much that does that. It is a solid app, but there are certainly better options on the market.
