The bookmakers have cut Burnley's Premier League relegation odds after a 4-1 home loss to Newcastle United at the weekend left the Clarets on the brink of returning to the EFL Championship.
Burnley's improved recent form had seen them priced up at 1/7 to go down a week ago but Vincent Kompany's side were taken apart by the Magpies and now in need of a miracle.
With a five-point gap to make up on Nottingham Forest - who they host at Turf Moor on the last day of the Premier League season - it is hard to see how Burnley can escape from there.
As a result, they are now 1/66 to be relegated to the Championship just a year after they cruised to promotion from the second tier, breaking a series of records in the process.
Forest had been slipping closer to the bottom three in recent weeks but a trip to Sheffield United, whose relegation had already been confirmed, offered the ideal chance to get back to winning ways. While the Blades took the lead at Bramall Lane on Saturday thanks to Ben Brereton Diaz's penalty, Callum Hudson-Odoi hit a brace as Forest came back to win 3-1.
That victory moved Forest three points clear of the relegation places but they are not quite safe yet, with a daunting home game against in-form Chelsea to come next time out. Forest are at 17/2 in the Premier League relegation odds after collecting their third league win of 2024.
Luton Town got the weekend up and running on Friday night but they were only able to draw 1-1 at home to Everton, a result that did them little favours with Forest able to move further clear.
Rob Edwards' side trailed to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty but they showed a lot of fighting spirit again to earn a draw thanks to a strike from returning forward Elijah Adebayo, who netted his 10th Premier League goal of the season in an impressive debut campaign at this level.
The Hatters have made a positive impression on the Premier League but that point against Everton is the only one they have taken from their past four games and they now look set for the drop. However, Luton face a West Ham side that are struggling badly for form next time out and a key victory in that game would be a shot in the arm going into the last weekend of the season.
Nevertheless, the bookies believe it will be all three of the clubs that came up from the Championship dropping back down, with Luton now being priced up at 1/12 in the Premier League relegation odds with all the teams involved in the survival scrap having two games left.
With Luton having a far worse goal difference than Forest, their relegation would be all-but confirmed if they lose to West Ham and Nuno Espirito Santo's men win at home to Chelsea.
Below are the latest EPL relegation odds at the time of this post.
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Burnley | 1/66 |
Luton Town | 1/12 |
Nottingham Forest | 17/2 |
