The highly impressive Swede Ludvig Åberg comes into this tournament as the favourite and you can clearly see why. He finished 9th on debut here last year and also had a 5th place finish at The Sentry at the start of the year.

In his young career, the 25-year-old has made 32 cuts in 37 tournaments on the PGA Tour including nine top 5s and one win. Last season he ranked 7th in Strokes Gained (Total), 21st in Strokes Gained (Approach to the Green), and 10th in Driving Distance - All Drives. These stats suggest to me that he will be very competitive at Torrey Pines and if he sorts his struggles out around the green and gets his putter going, then I expect him to be right up there and challenging come Sunday.

The big-hitting American is yet to catch light so far this season after a missed cut last week at the American Express. He did have a T15th at The Sentry a few weeks before though. The biggest issue with Finau has always been his putting, but he did start to improve that part of his game at times last season, especially in the Majors.

He finished T6 here last year, just 3 shots off the lead so has proved he can play at Torrey Pines. In 2024 he ranked 2nd in Strokes Gained (Approach to the Green) and 15th in Driving Distance -All Drives. As I mentioned before, I think these two stats in particular are what I'd be looking at to find value, especially on the South Course. Tony Finau starts his week on the South Course and should he get off to a flyer, he may be very hard to chase down.

Although Doug Ghim may seem a strange choice to many, as he's currently 93rd in the World Rankings and has failed to win on the PGA Tour in his career, I feel he has the fundamentals to go well on a course like Torrey Pines.

In 2024, Ghim was ranked 12th in Strokes Gained (Tee to Green) and 8th in Strokes Gained (Approach to the Green). Both these stats will be crucial on a course like this, especially on the South. Although not the biggest hitter, he was ranked 14th in Driving Accuracy Percentage, and if he carries that on he'll keep himself out of trouble and in the fairway which will give him a much better chance to score.

The American's biggest issue is his short game, he's notoriously struggled around the greens, especially with his putter. Ghim will definitely need to improve on that, but he does come here after a T21 last week at the American Express and also finished T13 here last year with a final round 66 which shows he can score on the tougher South Course.
