The second round of the 2025 Betfred World Matchplay continues this evening on Day 5 at the Winter Gardens.
Andrew Gilding produced one of the performances of the first round to squeeze past Damon Heta 12-10. Gilding missed double 12 for a nine-darter, hit 10 180s, and averaged 101.82 during a fantastic victory against the dangerous Aussie.
After a quarter-final last year, the former UK Open winner could be on his way to another deep run at the Winter Gardens.
Dirk van Duijvenbode continued his upturn in form, dispatching Rob Cross 10-8 with a 95.33 average. The Dutchman could do with a run here in Blackpool to solidify his place in the top 32 in the world, so there is a bit of pressure on him tonight.
Andrew Gilding, at times, can struggle to replicate a performance of such magnitude on the big stage, but his price here looks far too big.
The pace will play a significant role in this contest, and I think it may well wear down van Duijvenbode, as he's a player who prefers to get on with it. Gilding is also a big crowd favourite, another factor that looks to be in his favour.

Chris Dobey overcame a slow start to beat Ricardo Pietreczko 10-5 in the first round with a 90.95 average. Pietreczko was completely off the boil, averaging just 83.22, and Dobey will know he'll face a sterner test tonight.
Gerwyn Price continued his fantastic run of form, with a 10-7 victory over Daryl Gurney, in what was an extremely fiery encounter.
The Welshman admitted that he would have lost that match 6/7 years ago due to the needle on stage, but he showed his experience and composure to battle through, with an average of 100.21.
Dobey and Price both hit six maximums in their first round matches, and I expect there to be plenty again tonight.
I've always thought that the Welshman is such an underrated scorer, especially when he's in full flow, and with the form he's in at the moment, I think he has a great opportunity to jump on Dobey early and outscore him this evening.
Luke Littler produced another special performance on the big stage after destroying Ryan Searle 10-2 with a 108.92 average. The teenager's scoring power is a joy to witness, and if he carries on in that fashion, I can't see anyone getting near him in this tournament.
Jermaine Wattimena battled past Peter Wright 10-8 in the first round, but averaged just 91.81. The Dutchman hasn't been firing on all cylinders lately and will need a dramatic increase in his current form to get anywhere near Littler here.
The Nuke looked unbeatable at times in his first-round match, and the ease of it was scary to witness. I worry for Wattimena tonight, because there have been no signs of his A game lately, and if Littler produces a similar performance again tonight, he will blow him away.

Michael van Gerwen looked extremely edgy in his first-round victory over Raymond van Barneveld, but you can probably forgive him after not playing regularly lately. However, his finishing stats of 10/32 (31.25%) will do nothing for his confidence coming into this contest.
Josh Rock raced into a 5-0 lead against the big scoring Ross Smith in the first round, and took advantage of that fast start to progress 10-5. The Northern Irishman averaged 104.32 and hit 10/22 on his doubles (45.45%).
I forever find it difficult to discount Michael van Gerwen, but his form just isn't there at the moment. I still think he has a big performance in him, but he needs to relax again on the big stage.
Josh Rock is full of confidence right now, and after his performance in the first round, I think he can get his jaws into this match early and take a grip on this contest. His scoring power looks too strong at the moment, and he can cause the Dutchman big problems.
