Our comprehensive review gets to the bottom of Matchbook, a unique betting site that not only offers sports betting but also an innovative betting exchange and live casino features. Having been around for some time, the history is certainly there but there are both pros and cons.

Despite the UK betting market being arguably oversaturated, there is still room to be found within the exchange betting world and Matchbook could certainly compete in that area, if not also within the main UK betting market.
The number of exchange betting sites is minimal compared to the number of 'standard' betting sites. This means that customers may prefer Matchbook if they already use an exchange site, rather than signing up for another of the country's bookmakers.
When using Matchbook, I have always found the experience to be quite smooth, on both the app and website - which can be a real difference maker - when placing bets, depositing or withdrawing funds and also when just browsing the market.
We also would like to commend Matchbook for its customer service. When I first signed up for an account, the wrong sign-up bonus was being displayed, but I was able to quickly rectify the issue via the live chat, which was superb.
Having a good app is a staple of any bookmaker now, and we were quite impressed by the Matchbook app. Overall, there is a lot to like about Matchbook, and it certainly provides a welcomed option in the market, but we do have some small gripes.

To put it briefly, yes, Matchbook is a safe and reputable betting site. It is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission (under account number 39504), and it has a good track record of protecting customer data and money.
Starting with account creation, Matchbook asks users for a security question and answer, whilst also offering a two-factor authentication system for those who wish to use an added level of security.
In addition to this, Matchbook has an 'independent customer trust' in place, which means that if the site goes bust, then your funds will be kept safe. This is pivotal, especially on an exchange site when high-rollers are more likely.
Perhaps surprisingly, Matchbook also holds a rating of 4.0/5 on Trustpilot as opposed to many of the big bookies that are rated in the low 1-2 stars. Either way, we are not complaining and it is probably quite a fair rating.
Matchbook offers three fantastic welcome promotions to customers. Starting with the base offer, customers can get a £20 free bet after staking £20 across two different selections (that have odds of 2.0 or better).
Initially, we were missing our bonus but after speaking to customer support through the live chat, we were granted the bonus within seconds, which is quite superb.
Alongside this, customers can get £50 in free bets after placing £50 across at least four different bets (once again at odds of 2.0 or better) on the Matchbook exchange. Unlike the previous offer, customers will receive their free bets regardless of the outcome of their bets. Arguably better than the first one.
Finally, Matchbook also offers 200 free spins to customers who deposit £20 into their account, however, the winnings must be staked 40x (yes, forty times), which is really quite poor. Whether these offers rank among the best sign-up bonuses in the UK is debatable, but for an exchange, they are certainly interesting.
Operator | Welcome Offer | Bonus Code | Claim Offer |
---|---|---|---|
| Welcome Offer £20 Welcome Offer: Money Back as a Free Bet | MB20 | Claim Offer |
When we created our account, it seemed as though we had been granted the wrong sign-up bonus. However, as long as you enter the right sign-up code shown above, there will be no issues.
Instead, it seems to be a visual glitch. If you have any doubts and want to double-check you are using the right promotion, then the live chat can assist - this is what we did, and it was quickly sorted.
Along with the Matchbook new customer welcome bonuses, the site has a few promotions for existing customers, which are an attempt to offer customers a reason to continue betting with Matchbook.
Starting with the football side of things, Matchbook offers a £5 free bet every week when customers stake £30 on football across the week on multiples. The accumulators in question must be priced at odds of 2/1 (3.0) or better, and each must include three legs or more. Then, the free bet will be paid to your account before 11 am on the following day.
The site also has an offer for American Football, where customers can get a £5 free bet builder for the Monday Night Football fixtures, after placing a £10 bet builder on any of the fixtures between Thursday and Sunday. Certainly a better value offer than the other, but how much attention it will receive is unknown, even if American Football is a rising sport in the UK.
There is a nice list of methods available when depositing funds into a Matchbook account. Not only does the bookmaker offer the standard card option, but there are also a few e-wallets, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay, which is impressive.
Payment Method | Min. Limit | Transaction Fee | Processing Time |
---|---|---|---|
Visa | £10 | No fee | Instant |
Mastercard | £10 | No fee | Instant |
Google Pay | £10 | No fee | Instant |
Apple Pay | £10 | No fee | Instant |
Skrill | £10 | No fee | Instant |

New customers can follow our step-by-step guide to depositing on Matchbook in the UK below, for reference, we used the app to deposit:
Once you have entered the app, tap the profile icon shown in the top right corner to bring up the information and profile area of the app. Following this, tap the 'Deposit' option.
After entering the cashier, you will be greeted by a screen asking you to select your deposit limit, which can be chosen on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Once done, you will be able to start the deposit process.
Following this, you will be asked to select a method of payment - we chose a Visa debit card as normal - and then enter the deposit amount. If this is your first deposit, it may be worth depositing the amount for the sign-up bonus.
Finally, tap the 'Deposit' button shown and you will be taken to a screen to show that your transaction has been completed. The money will be added to your account instantly.
The list of approved payment options for withdrawals is slightly different than for deposits, unfortunately, As such, you might want to check out our table below for full information, including the minimum and maximum amounts.
Payment Method | Min. Limit | Transaction Fee | Processing Time |
---|---|---|---|
Visa | £10 | No fee | 3 hours (Visa Direct) |
Mastercard | £10 | No fee | 3 business days |
Google Pay | £10 | No fee | 3 business days |
Apple Pay | £10 | No fee | 3 business days |

For customers who have not withdrawn funds on Matchbook before, don't stress as we have a full guide available below. As a side note, it is worth pointing out that we completed the process on the app.
Once again, we want to head to the profile area when withdrawing. Tap the icon on the home screen once again, and then tap the blue 'Withdraw' option.
It is standard for customers to use the same method to withdraw as they did when withdrawing. In other words, your most recent deposit method will automatically be selected as a preferred method, so ensure that this payment information is correct.
After picking your payment method, you will need to enter the withdrawal amount, which must be more than the minimum of £10.
To complete the process, tap on the ‘Withdraw’ button at the bottom of the area. As is standard with most bookmakers, the withdrawal time depends on the method. Additionally, the status of your withdrawal can be seen at the top of the area, which is a nice touch.
In our test, we were only left waiting for the funds for just over three hours, which is an average score, if you will, for bookmakers of this size.
Verification, at least on the bookmaker side things, is one of the most important parts of a new customer joining. Where possible, Matchbook will verify you and your account automatically, permitting your details match and there are no red flags.
However, there will be instances where this is not possible, and you will be made aware of this. On said occasions, you will be asked to send verification documents to [email protected].
Alternatively, documents can be uploaded online via your account in the 'Account' section of the website or app, but if you are unable to access the platform, then you must email the aforementioned address.
For verification, the site requires both biometric and address verification, so customers can choose any of the following permitting that they fit both requirements.
It is important to ensure that your account is fully verified as certain limits could be placed onto your account if your account does not follow the verification guidelines.
The site is home to a range of options, however, the Matchbook Exchange still remains the heart of the operations. Indeed, it was shortlisted for Best In-House Product in the EGR Operator Awards in 2022.
The list of sports offered at the Matchbook betting exchange is broadly in line with those offered by the major sports betting sites. There is no option to bet on esports just yet, though, so anyone who is hoping to find top odds for CS:GO, Dota 2 and so on will have to go elsewhere.
On the other hand, some top political betting markets are available to browse, such as the next upcoming presidential election in the United States, though there is a lack of TV and film special markets.
In addition to this, there is a nice amount of live-streamed sports available, especially horse racing, but any bookmaker worth their salt has this feature. Outside of the sport, there are fewer options than on other sites, however, that is somewhat expected.
As an exchange site, customers play against each other, rather than the bookie, so to speak, but this comes with Matchbook charging a commission on winnings, which is not uncommon and done by other exchange sites too.
However, if customers wish to experience a commission-free site, then they can use the 'Matchbook Zero' area, which is certainly a nice touch. However, there are definitely limitations; the football and horse racing markets are only available and stakes are limited to £20, which is somewhat frustrating, and you cannot bet on multiples, again, a setback.
We love a simplistic betting interface, but it has to be done right, and whilst Matchbook is close to that, it just feels a little too simplistic. Navigation is really easy and you can quickly get from one sport or section to another, but the site and app feel somewhat basic in some areas.
We will focus on football and horse racing in this review because, past these, the layouts are fairly universal across the sports. Once you click on a sport in the menu found at the bottom of the screen, you will be taken to that sports page.
On the football page, you will see a list of the most popular upcoming fixtures. For example, on a Thursday, the weekend's Premier League fixtures were shown first, followed by the Championship. Games on the same day - La Liga and some Italian football - were not shown until you had scrolled down the page.
Most bookmakers show the immediate upcoming fixtures sooner, but this was not the case with Matchbook, instead, the 'Now and Next' tab is found right at the end of the scroll bar.
Bet Builders are easy to find and navigate, but we must admit that the selections are somewhat poor compared to other options on the market. For 'lower popularity' fixtures, the selections are even more limited, which could be a stalling point for some.
In the horse racing area, the fixtures are shown in a more 'traditional' manner, with the next race being shown first before a list of the days racing is shown. Ante Post bets can be placed (both backing and laying), which is expected for an exchange, but they could easily be seen as difficult to find.
The selection of sports at Matchbook is somewhat limited compared to some of the big hitters in the market, however, this is to be somewhat expected with an exchange. In fact, there are only 11 different sports available.
Football, tennis, horse racing and cricket are probably the most popular sports on the site, but, once again, this is expected on an exchange.
In terms of the markets on each, horse racing has quite limited options outside of the UK and Ireland, and with football, there are limitations with the big leagues covered, and of course relevant leagues - English League One and Two, for example, but aside from that there are a lack of options, even if some Austrian and Turkish league fixtures are available, for example.
With regards to betting on accumulators or 'Multiples', there can be some limitations in selections. For example, you cannot bet on multiple horses to place across different races, which is popular for many customers.
Live betting is possible, but it is probably better to do this in the In-play area of the app, rather than the 'Now and Next' area. Even then though, this area is somewhat limited.
Once again, the page is split into sections which are easy to navigate, but not great - perhaps that is being overly nit-picky, though. In addition to this, the area shows fixtures that have not begun, and will not for several hours, which takes away from the point of it - you cannot be presented as 'In-Play' when the fixture does not start for more than 12 hours.
Certainly a limitation of the site.
Matchbook recently created a Bet Builder feature on the app, and in all honestly, you can tell. The basic selections are there, which is great, however, there is not much more after that. Bet Builders on other sites are fantastic because of the choices on offer, and whilst the Matchbook offering is ok, it is not in line with the best, truthfully.
Whilst there are some cool inclusions too - such as team stats, whether this is enough to bring up our rating massively is debatable.
The Matchbook app is largely similar to the website, and whilst there are a few differences in the interface, they are largely the same product. It, once again, is slightly basic, but this is probably because they have gone for the minimalistic design, rather than overcomplicating things.
Navigating the app is really easy for the most part, but there are some areas that feel like a second thought. For example, the up-next area of the football is normally highlighted by other bookmakers, but it does not feel this way with Matchbook.
The Matchbook app is available on several platforms, but you can also use their capable and almost identical mobile site if you do not have access to their app, so there is no need to fear.
Those who prefer to play casino games on a mobile device are decently served by the Matchbook Casino too. It is available under the same app, which is nice to see, and whilst there are some good options, there are definitely some limitations to the area - which is understandable given it is an exchange.
Getting help from Matchbook is quick and easy to do on both the website and app.
On the app, tap the 'Menu' option shown at the bottom of the screen and then the 'Help and Support' option. From here, you can find FAQs as well as T&C's about several different things. Alternatively, there is a 'Contact Us' option shown at the top, which the live chat can be accessed by.
When looking for support on the website, simply look to the right of the screen, and below the 'My Bets' and 'Multiples' areas, there will be a FAQs and Live Chat area.
If you are looking for someone to talk to, just click on further through and you will find several different ways of contacting a customer service advisor.
As stated in the promotion area of our review, we ran into a few problems in the sign-up process, so had to speak to the customer support team, and our issue was sorted within 20 minutes, which is frankly superb.
In addition to this, the engagement in our conversation was superb, and with some assistance conversations feeling bot-like, this one did not, which is a small and perhaps irrelevant thing but for us, it makes a lasting difference.

Safer gambling is a priority for bookmakers now, and Matchbook have a clear focus on ensuring that customers are responsible in their gambling.
On the site, the bookmaker says: "Matchbook believes it is our responsibility to you, our customers, to promote safer gambling and ensure the delivery of gambling services in a socially responsible environment. Matchbook is committed to promoting an awareness of problem gambling and improving player protection and intervention procedures, upholding the highest standard of customer care."
For this reason, there is a full area set up in the FAQ area of the app to assist customers who may be concerned about their gambling, whilst also regularly promoting safer gambling tools.
When first depositing on the site, customers must pick a deposit limit to ensure that they are spending within their means, and there are also settings for gross and net deposits, which is a rarity.
A reality check system is in place too. Customers can select how often they would like to be told they have been using the site, from five-minute reminders to 60-minute reminders, and this helps.
Time-outs and self-exclusion are offered by Matchbook as well. Customers can opt to take a break from being able to access their account for shorter periods of time whilst self-exclusion offers much longer periods, starting at six months.
New players who want to sign up at Matchbook can follow our quick and easy guide to do so:
After installing the app, entering the Matchbook (via the site or app), then look towards the top right of the screen and you will be shown two options - we, of course, want to tap 'Join' here.
Starting things off, you must provide some basic account information - such as your name and date of birth, to help create the basics of your account, and following this, you will be asked to create your actual account information. Additionally, you can enter your bonus code.
Following this, you will be asked to provide your address and phone number, and this is to further verify your account - unfortunately, the details must be inserted manually, which is not often seen in this process.
Finally, you will be asked to provide a Security Question and Answer. Once this has been done, confirm your preferences and tap 'Join Matchbook'. Good Luck!
