Day 14 at the World Championship and its Quarter Final time. This is where things start getting interesting as all these players now feel like they have a genuine chance of becoming a World Champion.
First up this afternoon, Chris Dobey will play in his third World Championship quarter-final on the trot and will be hoping to be on the right side of the result this time round.
He plays the resurgent but slightly rusty Gerwyn Price. The Welshman has done brilliantly to get to this stage but will know himself, so this won't be an easy task against the Geordie.
Rounding off the afternoon we have a brilliant contest between two fast-paced heavy scorers, so expect plenty of 180s.
Michael van Gerwen plays today in his 11th PDC World Championship quarter-final but will know he has to be sharp against the in-form Callan Rydz.
‘The Riot’ has been in scintillating form so far in the tournament and if he carries it on then this could be the match of the tournament.
Chris Dobey made it to his third quarter-final on the trot after a close-fought 4-3 win against Kevin Doets. Dobey pretty much controlled the game from start to finish and somehow almost managed to lose.
He only had a 27% checkout rate in the match and kept missing doubles galore to give Doets opportunities. He hit 9 180s and averaged 91.59 but I think he performed a lot better and would have averaged 6 or 7 points higher if he didn't squander so many darts at double.
It was strange as he’s usually so reliable and had a 40% checkout rate in all competitions coming into this tournament.
He will of course know himself that he needs to play better today but the way his scoring has been so far in this tournament he will no doubt improve. ‘Hollywood’ has hit 24 maximums in 3 matches so far which is very solid.
The Premier League debate has been blown wide open after Peter Wright’s victory over Luke Humphries in the last 16. Although I don't think this will be massively playing on his mind, he may still feel he needs a win here to secure his Premier League reselection.
Dobey will be hoping its third time lucky this year after losing his previous two Quarter Final matches 5-0 against Michael van Gerwen and 5-4 against Rob Cross.
The Cross loss will be the one that will be on his mind after he played magnificently to cruise into a 4-0 lead before letting it slip and losing 5-4. If he manages to keep his head today then he has a great chance of getting through to his first PDC World Championship Semi Final.
Gerwyn Price at times has looked back to his blistering best at this year's World Championships and that's certainly a good thing for the sport of darts.
Without hitting the dizzy heights of recording big averages, he’s still managed to get the job done and we can probably put his inconsistency during games down to a bit of rustiness.
The Welshman has made it to his 5th PDC World Championship Quarter Final by beating Keane Barry 3-0, Joe Cullen 4-3 in an absolute epic and then beat his World Cup teammate Jonny Clayton 4-2 in the last 16.
‘The Iceman’ started brilliantly against Clayton by winning the first two sets averaging 103.37 and 111.06. I think everyone assumed he had found his best form again and would continue in that vein, but he unfortunately went completely off the boil. He still battled away though and managed to come through the match.
If Gerwyn Price was to win this match, it would be the first time he’s made it to the Semi Finals since 2021, the year he became World Champion. It would also be a big boost to his Premier League hopes although I can't see him not being selected even with a loss here.
A fired up and boisterous Price is ominous for the rest of the field because if he’s back to that mindset then it will only be a matter of time before he’s winning Major titles again.
This is a big match for both of these players and it's a tough one to call, but I just think Chris Dobey’s consistency will be too much for Price.
The Welshman has been brilliant in patches at this tournament but he blows too hot and cold for me right now and he will definitely get punished by Dobey if he does that this afternoon.
I also feel like Price is starting to score much better and seems to be getting his first dart sitting nicely quite often and if he does that again today I expect him to hit plenty of maximums.

Michael van Gerwen looked really good in his last 16 victory over Jeffrey de Graaf. He averaged 101.98 in a hard fought 4-2 victory. As I said in a previous preview, I expected ‘Mighty Mike’ to take full advantage of his draw and lay down a marker against de Graaf and he certainly did that.
What impressed me the most was the Dutchman’s rhythm and if carries on in the same way, he could well go on to lift his 4th World Title.
In van Gerwen’s previous two matches, there were certainly signs of the old MVG and without setting the world alight he had a 3-0 victory with a 94.85 against James Hurrell in the second round, followed by a 4-2 win over Brendan Dolan with a 97.01 average in his next match. He had to battle hard against the tenacious Northern Irishman, and MVG produced 10 180s during the match.
Michael Van Gerwen came into this year’s World Championship with plenty of question marks over his form. In the last 4 TV Majors he has failed to progress past the second round, including first-round losses at the Grand Prix, and Players Championship Finals and failed to get through the group stage of the Grand Slam.
It also doesn't help that he's only won two Major titles in the last 2 years including 0 so far this season. I think we all need to remember though how capable he is, he’s won 157 PDC tournaments in his career which is absolutely ridiculous, so he could spark into life at any time.
Callan Rydz has been sensational at the World Championship this year and is arguably the player of the tournament so far. His remarkable scoring power allowed him to breeze through to the last 16 without losing a single set.
Wins against Romeo Grbavac, Martin Schindler and Dimitri Van den Bergh is not an easy draw, but he’s certainly made it look easy.
He lost his first sets of the tournament in his last 16 tie against Robert Owen but battled away in a very good game to win 4-3. He wasn't at his brilliant best but still finished with a 97.38 average and 12 180s.
Those stats show exactly how well Rydz is playing and he certainly won't be afraid of playing in a Quarter Final at the World Championships because he has done it before in 2022 losing an epic 5-4 to Peter Wright. He was arguably the better player on that occasion too so he’ll be bang up for this today.
We’ve been waiting for this version of ‘The Riot’ to turn up again because the young man has undoubted natural talent.
It’s well known his attitude has not been the best over the last few years but now he seems to have that under control, which has contributed to his performances and another deep run at Ally Pally.
These two have met on TV before at the Players Championship Finals in 2023 with Van Gerwen winning that one 6-3. Rydz has experienced beating him before on a big stage though in 2022 at the Dutch Darts Championship 6-3.
For me this match could potentially be an Ally Pally classic. It will be played at an incredible pace too which will benefit both of these players. For me though this match is all about Van Gerwen and he needs to settle quickly.
This time last year he looked impressive on his way to the Quarter Finals before throwing in a stinker and lost to Scott Williams. I expect Callan Rydz to carry on exactly how he has during this whole tournament and I don't think he’ll feel the pressure or be scared of MVG as he’s played in a Quarter Final here before.
This should be a long match because these two are so evenly matched so the set market here is great value. Both players also are huge 180 hitters and if I'm right about it being a long match, then will have plenty of opportunities to hit maximums.
