The 2025 BetMGM Premier League moves onto the OVO Hydro in Glasgow for night 2. Last week we saw the world number 1 Luke Humphries stamp down his authority on his way to winning night 1 in Belfast.
'Cool Hand' beat Nathan Aspinall, Michael van Gerwen, and Chris Dobey en route to gaining maximum points in Belfast. We also saw the second-highest losing average in Premier League history as Luke Littler lost to Michael van Gerwen 6-5 with a 113.91 average almost surpassing the record of 115.80 when Phil Taylor lost to Raymond van Barneveld in 2015.
It's quite clear the standard is now astonishing at times in this modern era of darts but it's also refreshing to see that the players are refusing to back down against the imperious Luke Littler.
Since breaking onto the scene and catapulting himself into stardom, 'The Nuke' has looked almost unbeatable at times. For a while, it looked as if he would dominate the PDC circuit, but just lately, especially since the World Championship, the players seem to have raised their game against the young phenom.
Incredibly, in Littler's last 4 defeats on TV, he's averaged 105.12, 107.59, 108.50, and 113.91. I've seen a few comments in media over the past few weeks since the World Championship with concerns over his form after not winning a tournament so far in 2025, but it is quite clear to me, that he's still playing superbly, and it is a matter of time before the wins return.
The Players Championship floor events returned this week on Monday and Tuesday, with Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price continuing their impressive start to the 2025 season, winning events 1 and 2 respectfully.
Rob Cross has started the season superbly with a win in the Dutch Darts Masters and winning Players Championship 1 on Monday. He beat Stephen Bunting last week in his first game and was pretty impressive averaging 97.61 before losing his semi-final 6-4 to Chris Dobey. Cross was poor in that game though only averaging 89.55.
Luke Littler has continued his brilliant form in 2025 but is still finding wins hard to come by. Losing with an average of 113.91 to Michael van Gerwen last week has summed up 'The Nuke's' luck since his win at the World Championship. If he continues to play like he has done though, he won't continue losing and it's a matter of time before it all comes together for him.
I expect Littler to get out of the traps this evening and get his first win in his 2025 Premier League campaign. Cross is clearly in big form but I just think tonight is the night where Littler's luck turns around.

Michael van Gerwen was looking hungry and very sharp last week in Belfast which was slightly surprising as he hasn't played a great deal so far this season and skipped the Players Championship floor events earlier in the week. I understand it though as it looks as if the Dutchman may well be managing his schedule this season.
He beat Luke Littler in his first match last week, averaging 105.91, and hitting 6 180s in a game he could easily have won 6-3 after missing 3 clear at a double before ultimately winning a last-leg decider. He then lost 6-5 in a tight match against eventual night 1 winner, Luke Humphries.
Stephen Bunting lost his first match back in the Premier League since 2015, 6-4 to Rob Cross. 'The Bullet' looked nervous and failed to live up to his brilliant form coming into this event, I think we can probably forgive him for that though as it's been so long since he was on a Premier League stage.
I have a feeling this season Michael van Gerwen is looking in a bullish mood which always tends to bring the best out of him. Last week's win against Luke Littler will do wonders for his confidence. He hit 6 180s during that match whilst Bunting only hit 2 so I think the odds for the Dutchman to have the most 180s are too big to ignore.
Nathan Aspinall showed signs of his usual high standards last week as he battled back from 3-0 behind against Luke Humphries before succumbing 6-2. An average of 95.73 and one 180 is pretty much where his game is at the moment. He did play this week in the Players Championship floor events but failed to get past the last 32.
Gerwyn Price surprisingly lost to Chris Dobey 6-4 last week but he didn't play badly, averaging 96.21 and 3 180s. Dobey made it through to the final which was a great run for someone who seemingly looked out of form coming into that match so I'm sure Price took plenty of positives from his performance. The Welshman continued his recent resurgence with a win at Players Championship 2 on Tuesday, beating Jonny Clayton, Martin Schindler, Luke Littler, Ryan Searle, and then Chris Dobey 7-6 in a fantastic final. The fact he's seemingly willing to enter most tournaments again this season is a fantastic sign for any Gerwyn Price fan.
For me, I think Gerwyn Price will be far too strong tonight and will pile more misery onto the struggling 'Asp'. There have been plenty of positive signs for the Englishman, but I just don't think he's quite there yet with his rhythm and I expect Price to come through this match fairly comfortably.

Luke Humphries was extremely impressive last week in Belfast in seeing off Nathan Aspinall, Michael van Gerwen, and Chris Dobey in the final. His best performance was seeing off MVG in a last-leg decider 6-5 with a 99.31 average.
It was particularly impressive after MVG looked so good in denying Luke Littler in the previous round. Another season in which Humphries comes into the Premier League as World Number 1 and still he hasn't got the credit he deserves, but a win last week has put the marker down to the rest of the field.
Chris Dobey made it to the final last week after being completely out of form in the lead-up. It clearly did the world of good for his confidence as he made it to the final of Players Championship 2, losing out 8-7 to Gerwyn Price.
I don't think this match will be straightforward at all for Humphries and I expect it to be a tight contest. As well as Luke Humphries has been playing lately, he's certainly not hitting the maximums like he usually does so I think Dobey most 180s is brilliant value.
