At the top of League Two, one team is already looking to establish a lead over the play-off teams, and they are doing so fantastically. At the bottom, things are also separating.

Seven Points and Growing

At the top of League Two, one team are really marking their territory. That is Gillingham, who maintained their lead at the top of the table. This is something that we have not really seen across any of the other English divisions.

This weekend, the Gills won their sixth game of the season, beating relegation contenders Newport by three goals to one. It is a huge win that puts them seven points clear of eighth-place Bromley, as they look to continue flying.

However, it is also a club record, with it being their 21st game without a league defeat. Gareth Ainsworth's side are on fire, and there are no signs of them slowing down.

Despite their fine form, they still remain at a decent price to win the league, with bookmakers pricing them at 10/1. A chance for some value, perhaps.

Sticking with the odds, neither Chesterfield nor MK Dons, the two favourites for the title, actually follow them. In fact, both are struggling a little bit. Both teams are winless in their last four games, something which has seen the Dons move to 14th place.

Things could have been a little different at the top, too, had second-placed Salford not collected three points at home to Swindon. A late Kallum Cesay goal edged it and they now sit above Saturday's losers.

Walsall also had an exciting afternoon, as they sit third after a 4-2 win against Tranmere. That result, at least in the bookmakers' eyes, makes them third favourites to win the division, priced at 17/2.

Ridiculously Close

I'll keep repeating it until it's not the case anymore. League Two is a joke when it comes to the proximity of teams. Just 10 points separate first and 16th; that gap moves to three points from seventh to 16th.

It is far too tough to really call things right now and that provides us with a few chances for value in the market.

Swindon sit in fourth and their loss to Salford has hindered them a little bit. Had they won that game, they would have been level on points with Gillingham at the top of the league. However, they will still certainly take a place in the top four.

Grimsby, then, stalled again this weekend after the draw with Cambridge a week ago. This time, though, they were beaten by Barnet and convincingly too. The Mariners' form has dropped a little in recent weeks.

Elsewhere, Notts County continued their strong start, returning to winning ways after their loss in round 8. A 4-0 dismantling of Crawley is a fantastic result, and they are proving that they are right to be in the position they are.

Away from the play-offs. Bristol Rovers have been in fine form recently, and whilst they drew to Colchester this weekend, they won their last four games on the bounce and sit level on points with Notts County. Right now, they are 13/5 for a play-off spot.

Oldham, too, could be worth considering, with three wins in their last three. A 3-0 win has significantly helped their goal difference, and they could be worth keeping an eye on at 3/1.

Not A Pretty Sight

There is a bit of a gap emerging at the bottom and it is not too positive at all. It is not massive by any means, though there is enough for it to be noticeable.

At the bottom is Cheltenham, who have lost both of their last two games. This weekend, it was a 3-0 defeat against an Oldham side who have not blown anyone away so far. What is more worrying is that a third of the visitors' goals this season came on Saturday afternoon, which is a worry.

Shrewsbury also were beaten at the weekend, and a 2-0 defeat to Harrogate is nothing to be happy about. The North Yorkshire outfit have one of the lowest budgets in the division, so being beaten well is a worry, indeed.

Newport then sit third bottom and they lost against the league leaders. Certainly not as big a worry for them. However, they have only got one point in their last five games. You certainly have to feel a bit of concern there.

To Crawley, who sit in 21st, there is a bit of worry of course. Nevertheless, a three-point gap is in place, so there is a bit of 'safety', if you will, already.
