Four in the Mix

Starting at the top, Swindon Town are the new leaders, but it certainly is not the most convincing lead in the world, given there is only a point difference. This weekend, they picked up a third draw in their last five games, which creates a bit of worry.

Being held by Fleetwood, who have been quite underwhelming this season, is not a fantastic result, even if it was away from home.

Sitting below them is Walsall, whose recent form is even more worrying. Instead of three draws in five, they have three losses, only winning once, too.

The Saddlers started the season really strongly and have quickly fallen off. It is something that must be rectified really soon, given that they could have built a solid platform for the season.

Creeping up on the top two is MK Dons, who have won three of their last five - it’s a bit of a theme, isn’t it? The Dons were long-standing favourites this season, and they are starting to show that now.

A 2-0 win against Salford is a really nice result, considering they have been in the play-offs for most of the season. It is now just a case of continuing to pick up wins.

Rounding off the top four, another team with three wins in their last five, Notts County. Unbeaten in six games, Martin Paterson’s team are flying high.

With only a two-point gap to the leaders, they are in fantastic form, and their chances of promotion (at least) look really solid at the moment.

A Nice Mix

The play-off scene is as close as it always has been, with a number of teams in contention for a spot in the top seven.

Bromley, perhaps, are slightly unlucky not to be included in the top teams, given they have won four of their last five and are unbeaten in three games.

This weekend, they beat Barrow, who have been difficult to beat over the course of this season. They are in one of the strongest positions at the moment, indeed.

Chesterfield, another of the heavy pre-season favourites, then sit in sixth. Their recent unbeaten streak is strong, but they need to add a few more wins.

Taking the final spot in the top seven is Gillingham, who have been the definition of hit and miss recently. Gareth Ainsworth’s side dropped three points again this weekend. After their unbeaten streak, questions are justified about their promotion chances.

Below them, Crewe, Grimsby and Salford City are poised and ready to strike.

Worrying for Some

At the bottom, Newport’s chances are not looking fantastic, given they have hit a bit of a rut. Against a fellow struggler in Shrewsbury, they were beaten this weekend and remain favourites to go down at 7/19.

It is a loss which has caused David Hughes to lose his job at the club after only six months. Given the squad, though, it feels slightly harsh.

Above them, Cheltenham find themselves back in the League Two relegation zone, after two losses on the bounce. Albeit a close encounter, their 3-2 defeat to Tranmere is a really bad result.

Harrogate are at risk of entering the bottom two as well. Although they managed a draw against Notts County this weekend, they have not won a League Two game for almost two months…

Shrewsbury and Crawley created some more distance between them and the drop this weekend. The former got a win against Newport, and the latter, a draw against Gillingham.

On just 16 points, though, they are far from secure. Nor as Bristol Rovers, who have lost six League Two games on the bounce. They are in trouble…
