The 2025 Betfred World Matchplay continues with a double session on day 2.
Gary Anderson seems to be getting better with age and has had some wonderful performances over the past 18months. However, his TV form is very inconsistent, and he needs to sort that out if he's to threaten winning another PDC major title.
Luke Woodhouse is certainly no slouch and has shown plenty of signs of his A game in 2025. It's going to be tough for him tonight, though, against one of the elite players in the world, but I certainly wouldn't rule him out.
Anderson has failed to get past the second round in his last four appearances at the Winter Gardens and will have to be on his toes to avoid an upset here. If Woodhouse plays his game, this can be a tight contest.
Woody is a very underrated scorer, so if this goes over 16/17 legs, I can see him easily hitting plenty of maximums.

Jonny Clayton has bounced back in style in 2025 after a difficult two years. He's arguably one of the most in-form players at the moment, especially on the European Tour, where he has had a quarter-final, a semi-final, and a win in his last three events. A magical run to the final of the World Cup alongside Gerwyn Price once again reiterated his current form.
Martin Schindler is having another fabulous season, winning twice, in the Players Championship and on the Euro Tour. The German number 1 continues to impress, and with a run here, he can crack the top 16.
This looks set to be one of the ties of the first round, and I expect it to be a close one. Clayton isn't the biggest maximum hitter in the world, but when Schindler is on, he hits loads, so I think the price for him to hit more than the Welshman is extremely good value.

Luke Littler fell at the first hurdle against Michael van Gerwen here last year on debut, but he's arguably a much better player now. The World Matchplay is one that he'll be desperate to add to his already impressive tally of trophies, and after Luke Humphries lost last night, he looks primed for another big run in a major event.
Ryan Searle has been completely off the boil at times this season, but showed his class earlier in the year with a victory at PC04. I've said it before, but he hasn't seemed himself since his whitewash defeat at the UK Open against Luke Humphries, and another 6-0 defeat just last week to Humphries won't have helped his confidence coming into this.
Searle could have done with avoiding this draw, and I can see it turning into a miserable evening for him if the teenage sensation puts on a clinic.

Aside from a tough Premier League campaign, Stephen Bunting has had a great 2025 season. The Bullet has one, a Players Championship, a European Tour event, and two World Series events this year. He hasn't got a great record in Blackpool, though, with 3 first-round defeats in the last four years.
Ryan Joyce hasn't won a match at the World Matchplay in two attempts and has also failed to progress past the 4th round in the 19 Players Championship events he's played. He has made a quarter-final, a semi-final, and a final on the European Tour in 2025, though, which shows he's more at home on the big stage.
Joyce is notoriously hard to beat, and even with Bunting being in super form, I think this match could easily go the distance.
