Nick Kenny qualified for his 4th PDC World Championship via the Pro Tour order of merit. The Welshman had a good run to the third round last year, eventually losing 4-0 against Luke Humphries.
Justin Hood gained his tour card at the start of the year and has qualified for his Ally Pally debut via the Pro Tour rankings after a solid season.
Hood has reached a quarter-final, and a semi-final in Players Championship events this season, which will give him plenty of confidence coming into this.
For me, Justin Hood looks to be playing better than Kenny at the moment, and although the Welshman has the experience on the Ally Pally stage, I think Hood will come through this tie.

Scott Williams has been struggling with his rhythm lately, but he's been playing better in the last few events, and he comes into a tournament that he loves.
There's no doubt that Williams is a better player on the big stage, and he has good memories here after a fantastic semi-final run in 2024.
Poalo Nebrida had a brilliant run to the third round last year, defeating Jim Williams 3-2 and Ross Smith 3-0, before losing to Jeffery de Graaf.
Nebrida also enjoyed more success on the big stage earlier this year when he defeated Rob Cross 6-3 in the first round of the Bahrain Masters.
Scott Williams has never lost his opening match at Ally Pally, and although this is a tricky draw, and he's struggling slightly with his rhythm, he always seems to get up for matches at the World Championship. For that reason, I expect Williams to dominate this match and advance to the next round.

Chris Dobey returns to the palace after a fantastic run to the semi-final last year. Hollywood has had another solid season, but his TV performances have been disappointing after just one run to the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals.
Xiaochen Zong is back at Ally Pally for his 5th appearance, but has failed to win a set in his last two visits. At just 27, he has a lot of experience behind him, and I genuinely believe he will come good soon because his performances in Asia have been fantastic.
There isn't a lot of value in this match, but Zong can score and has hit 2 or more 180s in all four of his previous World Championship appearances.

Ricardo Pietreczko has a decent record at Ally Pally, reaching the third and fourth rounds over the last two years. The German will have a lot of support here as usual, and it's clear from his results on the floor that he's a much better player on the big stage.
Pikachu has had a quarter-final at the European Championships and a semi-final at the World Cup this year.
Jose De Sousa is in big danger of losing his tour card after reaching a career high ranking of number 7 just five years ago. He's had another stinker this season, but played fantastically well to come through the tour card holder qualifier.
De Sousa has given himself a chance to save his career, but the form he's been in lately, and the fact we've barely seen him on TV much, means I don't think he will lay a glove on the impressive German.
However, Pietreczko is one of the lowest maximum hitters on tour, and even with De Sousa out of form, he always seems to hit maximums.

Gerywn Price comes into this years World Championship as one of the big favourites to topple the two lukes. The Welshman clearly loves it at Ally Pally and has made it to at least the quarter-final in five of the last 6 years. The Iceman has had another fantastic year since returning to form, reaching four semi-finals on TV in 2025.
Adam Gawlas returns to the Ally Pally for the first time since 2023 after winning the PDCE Czechia qualifier. The 23-year-old looked set to be another big young talent coming through, but it hasn't quite worked out for him, and he lost his tour card at the end of 2024. He still has plenty of time, though, and he's done well to get back to the World Championship.
For me, this looks set to be a straightforward night for The Iceman, and I expect him to lay down a marker to the rest of the field with an impressive performance and a straight-sets victory.
