Since breaking through and winning his first major title at the 2024 European Championship, Ritchie Edhouse has really struggled for form. This year has been especially disappointing, with just one quarter-final all year. Edhouse also failed to qualify for the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam, and the European Championship, in which he became the first player unable to defend the title.
Jonny Tata is experienced enough on the big stage, having competed in World Series events as well as at Lakeside. He beat Peter Wright in the 2023 NZ Darts Masters and reached the quarter-final of the WDF World Championship the same year.
I'm really concerned about Ritchie Edhouse's form, especially after the struggles he's previously shown on the Ally Pally stage. This is Tata's debut, and if he settles, he's shown enough form in the past to be able to deal with Edhouse and book his place in round two.

Dom Taylor is finally able to make his World Championship debut after qualifying last year, but was unable to compete after a positive drug test. There is certainly no doubting his ability, and he's proved that this season by reaching two semi-finals in Players Championship events.
Oskar Lukasiak has had a really tough first season as a professional, and he has just two wins to his name in all competitions since May.
The Swede will really need to up his game if he's to compete with Taylor, which seems unlikely as he is struggling with his rhythm at the moment, so 3-0 looks like a fantastic price considering both players' current form.

Joe Cullen continues to struggle for consistent form, but has still managed to win two Players Championship events this season. His biggest problem has been backing up a good performance, especially in European Tours or Majors.
Bradley Brooks returns to the Palace for the first time since 2022 after regaining his tour card at the start of the year. Brooks struggled early in the season, but after settling down, he's managed to pick up form and claim his first senior title at PC21. However, he's never won a game at Ally Pally, and experience could play a key factor here.
Cullen always comes alive at the World Championship, especially last year when he was dubbed the outsider against Wessel Nijman and drilled him 3-0. It will be the same situation this year as he is again the outsider, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him come out and produce his best.

Lukas Wenig has had another tough season on the Pro Tour, but he did make a final at PC23. The German then took that form and qualified for the Grand Slam, where he was extremely impressive, making it to the quarter-final before losing out 16-8 to Danny Noppert.
Wesley Plaisier has failed to replicate his form from 2024 and has struggled to make an impact on tour this season. He has made a quarter and semi-final in Players Championship events this year, but that's as good as it's got for the Dutchman.
This match could go with form momentum, but I'd prefer to back the 180 market than the result, and Wenig showed how well he can score at the Grand Slam recently. If he scores like that again tonight, he will easily outscore the big Dutchman.

This selection makes perfect sense considering Dimitri van den Bergh is the outsider with the bookies to win this match. His struggles have been well documented, but that's mainly been in floor tournaments, which have been quite regular in the Belgian's career.
Aside from those struggles, he's actually had some good results on TV, with a semi-final at the Masters and a run to round six of the UK Open. He also comes into this tournament on the back of a quarter-final run at PC34.
Dimitri always comes alive on the big stage, and the two-time Major Champion should have enough experience to get past Darren Beveridge.
