Mario Vandenbogaerde has qualified for his second PDC World Championship, but the 52-year-old is under pressure knowing he needs to win to save his tour card. The Belgian has had another tough season on the pro tour, and apart from one run to the final of PC28, he's failed to make it past round four of any ranking event.
David Davies has been a revelation over the past 18 months and seems to be winning in everything he enters in the amateur darts scene. The Welshman booked his place for his Ally Pally debut by storming through the Associate Member qualifier, and has had plenty of experience under pressure, after becoming a regular winner at the Modus Super Series and the ADC tour.
For me, this is set up perfectly for Davies to claim a debut victory. He's winning more matches and is in much better form than the Belgian. Vandenbogaerde will also have to deal with the added pressure of potentially losing his professional status with a loss, and I think that plays a big part in this contest.

Andrew Gilding has had another solid season, without doing anything spectacular. Goldfinger continues to fly under the radar and had another quarter-final run at the World Matchplay in July. He doesn't have the best record at Ally Pally, though, failing to get past round three in six appearances.
Cam Crabtree has had an enjoyable past few months after a tough start to his professional career. The 22-year-old failed to get past round three in his first 17 Players Championship events until making a fantastic run to the quarter-final of PC18. Crabtree topped the Development Tour rankings after winning five tournaments to qualify for his World Championship debut.
Experience is key at Ally Pally, and even though Gilding doesn't have the best record here, I think he'll have enough to get past Crabtree in a tight contest.

Luke Woodhouse has had another solid season, but he could have done without this draw. Boris Krcmar is dangerous and Woody will need to be on his toes to avoid an early exit.
The big Croatian booked his spot at Ally Pally through the South-East Europe qualifier, for his sixth appearance here. He was extremely unlucky to lose his Tour Card last year, but he's kept pushing on and is arguably one of the top players on the amateur circuit without a Tour Card.
Krcmar is a multiple soft tip World Champion and has plenty of experience on the big stage, but Luke Woodhouse is starting to find his form Infront of the cameras and should have too much quality here.

Wessel Nijman comes into Ally Pally once against as one of the favourites to win the tournament. There were question marks as to why he was amongst the favourites last year, but this time he certainly deserves to be.
There are still slight worries over his composure on the big stage, but there's no doubting his ability, and he comes into this years World Championship in fabulous form after reaching at least the quarter-final of the last six Players Championship events, winning two of them.
Karel Sedlacek has made six quarter-finals on tour this year, and is always a tricky customer to get past. He has a dreadful record at Ally Pally though, and faces a stern test in his opener.
He lost 3-0 in the first round against Rhys Griffin last year, and this is one of the toughest draws he could have gotten, so I expect the result to repeat itself again.

This looks set to be a pretty straight forward evening for Luke Humphries, but Ted Evetts is no stranger to the big stage, and he'll be making his 5th appearance at Ally Pally, but his first since 2022.
Humphries will be looking to make a statement early in this tournament, and I think he will do just that. Evetts will be competitive enough, and when on form he's a big scorer so over 1.5 180s looks a steal.
