Wesley Plaisier caused a big shock in round two, dispatching Gerwyn Price 3-0. The big Dutchman averaged 94.28, but his timing was perfect and ended up with a 56% finishing rate.
Krzysztof Ratajski showed once again how underrated he is by comfortably defeating Ryan Joyce 3-1. The Polish Eagle was as solid as ever, averaging 93.91.
Neither of these players is the most prolific maximum hitter, and they haven't had more than 3 180s in either round so far. This is a longer format, but I still expect a low number of maximums to be hit.

Andrew Gilding has been superb in this tournament so far, averaging 97.89 in round one and 99.01 in round two, defeating Chris Dobey 3-1. Goldinger looks dangerous, and if he continues in this form, he's going to be very hard to beat.
Luke Woodhouse has sailed through the opening two rounds, but has yet to be tested. Wins against Boris Krcmar and Max Hopp have gotten him to this point, but he'll know that improvement will be needed to get past Gilding.
For me, Andrew Gilding has been one of the players of the tournament so far, and if he keeps his performance levels up, he should have too much for Woody today.

Jonny Clayton was handed a bye through to round three after Dom Taylor failed a drug test. The Ferret would certainly have preferred to have had another match under his belt after looking a bit nervous in his opener.
A bye always looks like a good thing, but I can assure you it may cause him a problem today as he won't feel as match-sharp as he'd like.
Niels Zonneveld battled past a resilient Michael Smith in round two. The Dutchman was impressive, winning 3-1 with a 94.52 average to deny Bully Boy, who averaged 97.93 himself.
Zonneveld has started to look very relaxed on the big stage, and there's no doubt he will cause Clayton problems today. I'd personally steer clear of the match result, but I can see it being close, so over 5.5 sets looks a steal at this price.

Andreas Harrysson has looked at home on the Ally Pally stage and is fast becoming a fan favourite. The big Swede dispatched the dangerous Motomu Sakai 3-0 in the previous round, and if he remains as solid as he has been, he has a massive chance to progress here.
Ricardo Pietreczko survived an almighty comeback attempt from Dave Chisnall in round two. Pikachu found himself comfortably 2-0 ahead until Chizzy blasted in a barrage of 180s to take the match to a fifth set. The German showed some fantastic composure to get through, especially after the crowd were on his back.
Pietreczko is rightly the favourite because of his experience on the big stage, but Harrysson seems so calm and composed, and looks like he's played here for years. For that reason, I think the Swede is a fantastic price to come through this, although I expect it to be a tight contest.

Stephen Bunting lost just two legs in a comfortable victory over Nitin Kumar in round two and will have his sights set on another deep run at Ally Pally.
James Hurrell showed he can compete with the elite of the sport on the big stage after defeating Dirk van Duijvenbode 3-2 in round two. The Englishman produced 10 maximums and a brilliant 132 checkout in the final set to progress to round three for the first time in his career.
Bunting will have to be careful tonight, because if he isn't on his game, Hurrell will be there to mop up. The pace of the match may also cause Bunting problems, especially if Hurrell can maintain his performance level from round two.
