Britain's Got Talent (BGT) is a British televised talent show that has been on air since 2007 and is a part of the global "Got Talent" franchise that was created by Simon Cowell. As BGT gained massive popularity in the UK, betting sites started to price up a variety of different Britain's Got Talent betting markets including the overall winner, top 3 finish and many more.
Britain's Got Talent follows a format where contestants from various talents, including singing, dancing, comedy, and more, audition before a panel of judges. The initial stages feature open auditions, with successful acts progressing to the semi-finals.
Acts are judged by a panel of celebrity judges, who use "yes" votes or buzzers to decide if acts move forward.
After the auditions, live semi-finals and a final take place, where public voting decides the winner. The winner receives a cash prize and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
Each year, contestants of any age can enter the auditions stage to display whatever talent they wish. In the auditions phase, contestants try to impress a panel of judges to secure a place in the live rounds of the contest. Each contestant will be brought to the stage and begin by engaging with the judges, answering a few questions that typically include their name, background and a little bit about their performance.
Each contestant is given up to three minutes to conduct their performance, and the performance ends when the time is up, or all of the judges use their buzzers. Each judge has one buzzer they can use to signal they do not like the performance, and if all of the judges use their buzzer, the performance ends and the judges give their feedback.
If the buzzers are not used, the judges will give their feedback and then cast votes to see if the contestant will progress to the next round. If the contestant receives a majority of yes votes, they will move on to the next stage, or be eliminated from the competition. If a judge loves a particular performance, they can use their "Golden Buzzer" which grants an automatic place in the live rounds regardless of other judges' decisions, but the golden buzzer can only be used once.
After the auditions stage comes the Judge's decision which is also known as "Deliberation Day". The judges look through the acts that have made it through to this stage and begin choosing select contestants who they believe have the best chances of winning the competition. There are typically eight acts picked for the semi-finals but there have also been nine acts in the past.
The contestants in the semi-finals are divided into groups for each round, and they must perform before a live audience and judges as well as on live television. Each contestant must perform a new routine of their act, and the judge's role is to give feedback towards the end of the performance.
Each semi-final group has two participants at most advance into the final, and these are determined by a public phone-in vote in which the contestant with the highest total of votes goes through to the final. Then, a second vote from the judges in which they vote between the two semi-finalists in 2nd and 3rd place.
In the finals, all contestants must perform a new routine and a public vote takes place which allows people to vote for their favourite performance. Then, the top two acts with the most votes are announced, before revealing the overall winner.
