PDC World Darts Championship: Day 12 Betting Tips - Evening Session

PDC World Darts Championship 2024/25 Day 12 (Evening Session)
James Hubbard BL style
James Hubbard Published: 28/12/2024

The evening session on day 12 brings us the first 4th round games of this year's World Championship.

First off though we complete the third round ties with a very interesting match between the entertaining, fan favourite, Ricky Evans who will play Robert Owen, who has looked in fantastic form so far in this event.

Next up we have a fascinating all Welsh clash between two great friends and World Cup partners, Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price. Both players have the Premier League on their minds so this promises to be a very good match.

Rounding off the evening we have a huge game in prospect as two of the most successful players in history come head-to-head for a place in the Quarter Finals.

The World Number 1 and defending World Champion, Luke Humphries returns to the palace for a showdown with 2x World Champion Peter Wright.

This match has the potential to be an epic and after the war of words between them in press conferences we could even see a bit of needle which of course always adds to the drama.

Ricky Evans vs Robert Owen

  • Over 5.5 Sets: 4/6 at BetVictor
  • Ricky Evans Most 180s: 6/5 Bet365

Ricky Evans has been his normal entertaining self at Alexandra Palace and has gained loads more fans after his epic match with Dave Chisnall in the second round. His popularity is soaring right now and it will only help in the long run as the crowd will continue to get behind him.

He struggled in his first round match and scraped through 3-2 against Gordan Mathers but he did admit to struggling with his grip in that contest. Second round we saw a completely different ‘Rapid’ and right from the off he was power scoring and finishing beautifully.

In a match that swung in many different directions, it was arguably the match of the second round with both players producing magic moments and all at a very exciting pace.

Ricky Evans eventually came through 3-2 with an average of 94.30 and held his nerve brilliantly winning a last set tie break 6-5.

An on form Ricky Evans is brilliant for the sport because of his fast and exciting pace and if he continues in that vein again today he may well be on his way to a deep run here at Ally Pally.

Robert Owen has produced two magical performances under pressure at this year’s World Championship and had almost certainly managed to miraculously save his Tour Card.

Unbelievably now though he faces the prospect of a trip to Q school and losing his Tour Card after shock results going completely against him. He needs to beat Ricky Evans and hope that Nebrida beats De Graaf otherwise he's in trouble.

After his first two victories here though I think he’ll be very confident heading into tonight's match.

First round he beat Niels Zonneveld 3-1 with a 91.64 average and followed that up with a brilliant second-round performance beating the big German, Gabriel Clemens 3-1 with a 98.97 average. He’ll know he needs another big performance tonight but he looks in great form heading into it.

This is a huge match for both of these players and I expect it to be a high standard because of the way they have both played in their last games.

It’s definitely going to be close and I can't see anyone running away with it so the set markets look great value.

Robert Owen has hit 6 180s in his first two matches and even though Ricky Evans has played two more sets than the Welshman, he's had 11 maximums in two matches so I like the 180 market for Evans here.

Jonny Clayton vs Gerwyn Price

  • Gerwyn Price Most 180s & Win: 5/4 at BoyleSports
  • Over 12.5 180s In The Match: 5/6 BetVictor

Jonny Clayton has survived two final set marathons to make it through to the last 16 and keep his Premier League hopes alive. He came through a really tough match in the second round 3-2 winning the tie break 6-5 against the methodical Mickey Mansell with a 92.45 average.

He followed that up with another final set victory, surviving a brilliant comeback from Daryl Gurney after the Welshman led 3-0. He eventually got the job done 4-3 but looked extremely vulnerable once ‘Superchin’ started coming back at him.

Clayton finished with a 90.11 average but in truth stumbled over the line after Gurney missed 7 darts to send the match into a final set tie break.

There are still lots of positives for ‘The Ferret’ and he looks as if he's going to move up a few places in the World Rankings, especially if he finds a victory tonight.

The way in which this World Championship has gone, I think Clayton may already have done enough to sneak his way into the Premier League, a tournament he won in 2021.

Gerwyn Price was involved in one of the matches of the tournament in his previous game against Joe Cullen. Price, just like Clayton, led 3-0 in sets and survived an epic comeback from ‘The Rockstar’ to win 4-3 in a tie break.

He held his nerve brilliantly to win in a last leg decider 6-5, finishing the match with 13 maximums and a 92.60 average. Early in the tie he was absolutely brilliant and looked back to his best to go 3-0 up.

He went off the boil completely after that though and will certainly need to be more consistent to beat his fellow Welshman tonight.

Price wants to be back in the Premier League and with another victory here I think he’ll get in, regardless of the negative comments he has made previously.

Darts as a sport is in a better place with ‘The Iceman’ in full flow and by the looks of the start of his previous match, he doesn't look very far off that form.

This match looks set to be a close one especially as they're such good friends. This match all depends on Price in my opinion and if he shows Clayton too much respect he’ll get punished.

We need an aggressive Price and hopefully, that's the case regardless of his friendship. Price hit 13 180s in his first match and if he begins like that again he may well roll over ‘The Ferret’

Luke Humphries vs Peter Wright

  • Over 5.5 Sets: 6/4 at BetVictor
  • Peter Wright to win: 11/2 at SpreadEx

Luke Humphries has breezed through his opening two matches at this year’s World Championship and is yet to lose a set. He did look a little nervous in his first match but I think we can forgive him for that as no one wants to lose early as the defending World Champion.

He still had a 3-0 victory over Thibault Tricole with an average of 90.79. ‘Cool Hand’ was always going to improve from that performance and he did just that with a 4-0 demolition of Nick Kenny with a 98.59 average.

Luke Humphries has the chance to become only the 4th player in history to successfully defend a PDC World Championship and he definitely looks in great form to do just that.

He’ll also be wanting to extend his already massive lead as World Number 1 and continue his astonishing dominance of the sport.

Peter Wright looked back to his brilliant best after a scintillating display in the Third round, despite suffering from a chest infection. He switched back to his 2020 World Championship winning darts and looked comfortable from dart 1.

This has always been the problem for ‘Snakebite’ because if he just stuck to a set of darts he knows he can win with then I don't think we would have seen this sudden capitulation of form.

He looked really tense in his first match but came through 3-1 against the highly fancied Wesley Plaisier.

In the Third round against Jermaine Wattimena it was a completely different story and it looked like vintage Peter Wright at times in that match. He won 4-2, hitting 10 180s and an average of 96.19 in a result nobody really saw coming.

Darts is a better place with Peter Wright on form and if he continues like he did in his previous match then he could well cause a huge shock tonight against Humphries and catapult himself back into the Premier League selection debate.

If Peter Wright now sticks with the darts he used against Wattimena then this match could turn into an Ally Pally epic. An in-form ‘Snakebite’ is a scary proposition for anybody, especially on a stage he’s won two World Titles on.

This match without doubt will go to 6 or 7 sets if the Scotsman is on it and I really think if he is, Humprhies is gonna have some real problems.

I'm honestly shocked at the price of Wright to win this game and even though Luke is without a doubt the best player in the World right now, 11/2 is way too big if Peter Wright turns up like he did in the Third Round.

There’s also a bit of needle between these two after both their remarks in previous post-match press conferences so this will without doubt add to the spectacle of this potentially brilliant tie.
