It looks certain we are going to be treated to an unbelievable evening session on Day 7 at the Palace. First, we have former UK Open champion Danny Noppert, up against ‘Relentless’ Ryan Joyce in what looks to be a very tight game.
Five-time World Champion, Raymond Van Barneveld begins his campaign against the Welshman Nick Kenny. The bookies' favourite and teenage sensation Luke Littler begins his quest for a maiden World Title against Suffolks Ryan Meikle and rounding off the night we have World number 9 Damon Heta against the ultra-impressive Connor Scutt.
Danny Noppert has become one of the most consistent players on tour but he doesn't have a great record on TV this year and also does not have the best record at Ally Pally either. In 6 previous appearances at the World Championships, he's only got as far as the last 32 on four occasions and also lost in his first game last year 3-0 against Scott Williams.
In Majors this year he’s had good runs to the last 16 of The Masters, World Series, Grand Slam and Players Championship finals as well as a semi-final in the European Championships. He has had a few early exits, however, in both the World Matchplay and Grand Prix highlighting his inconsistency on the big stage.
Coincidently in the Players Championship floor events he’s been extremely consistent this season. In the 30 tournaments he’s entered the Dutchman has reached the Quarter Finals or better in 10 of them, including winning Players Championship 8.
On the European Tour, ‘The Freeze’ has played in all 13 events, reaching 4 Quarter Finals and a Semi-Final. A Seasonal average of 96.59 and a win percentage of 66% highlights why the World Number 13 is always a tough man to beat.
Ryan Joyce came through a testing first-round tie 3-1 against the dangerous Darius Labanauskas, the exact result I picked at 13/5. ‘Relentless’ was true to his nickname averaging 92.97 and was 9/22 on his doubles, 40.91%.
Joyce was trying out some new grippier darts with longer points which sometimes can play on someone's mind because, from personal experience, comfort with equipment is key for a dart player, but he came through it impressively and I expect him to be even better tonight now he's had a game on the big stage using them.
Interestingly these two have never played each other on TV and in the 5 games they have met, Ryan Joyce has won 4 of them, including the most recent meeting at Players Championship 25 in October.
Taking into account both their form on TV in the last few months, Joyce definitely comes into this match in better form but it will still be tight and I think that's where the value lies here.

The iconic Dutchman is set to make his 18th appearance at the PDC World Championship and he comes into this tournament as the 32nd seed. Unfortunately for him, that means he will have to play Luke Humphries in round 3 if he manages to win his match tonight.
‘Barney’ certainly isn't the player he was 10/15 years ago but he's still very capable and that shows with a seasonal average of 94.44 and a 59% win rate.
His main problem is that he seems to struggle nowadays in the Majors and with first-round exits in the Matchplay, European Championships and Grand Prix this year, that trend seems to be continuing.
He did have a good run here last year though reaching the 4th round before losing 4-1 to Luke Littler. Barneveld has produced many memorable moments on the Ally Pally stage and always seems up for a World Championship so you would be silly to write off the Dutchman.
Nick Kenny looked very impressive in his 3-0 win against Stowe Buntz, averaging 87.66 including taking out the big fish.
The Welshman will need to win at least another couple of games to save his tour card and that looks unlikely with ‘Barney’ and Luke Humphries standing in his way. Kenny is a very capable player though and if he improves on his first-round average, he might well pull off a shock in this match.
Raymond should get through this game although I can't see it being straightforward and could well go the distance in most sets.
Nick Kenny had some big finishes in his first-round tie and Barneveld has always been a good finisher so I think there’s definitely some value there.

Luke Littler burst onto the scene at just 16 years old, introducing himself to the World of Darts after his spectacular run to the PDC World Championship Final last year at Alexandra Palace.
After starting the tournament as a 66/1 outsider, he gained the attention of the world's media and Darts fans after dismantling former World Champion Christian Kist in the first round.
Littler also broke two records, one for the highest average of a debutant (106.12) and the other for being the youngest winner of a match at the World Championship.
He then beat Andrew Gilding, Matt Campbell, Raymond Van Barneveld, Brendan Dolan, and Rob Cross before Narrowly losing out to Luke Humphries in a brilliant final.
Littler’s first season as a professional has been quite remarkable. He has won 10 senior PDC titles including The Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series Finals. He has hit four 9 darters this season with 2 of them coming on TV, his most recent being in the Premier League final at the 02 arena against Luke Humphries.
Unsurprisingly this also set a new record as the youngest player to hit a televised 9 dart leg. He’s risen into the World's top 5 in the rankings and will go into this year's World Championship as the 4th seed, a truly remarkable feat for the 17-year-old.
Having just been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, he’s now a global superstar and will no doubt be looking to add the World Championship crown to his already staggering collection.
Ryan Meikle came through a real marathon match 3-2 against Fallon Sherrock in the first round and will be over the moon to have the exposure of playing Littler next.
Meikle will know the eyes of the world will be on this game but his tour card is now safe so I'm sure he will play at his own pace and take it in his stride. ‘The Barber’ only averaged 83.53 on Tuesday night and he’ll know that won't be good enough in this match.
It's very difficult to find a lot of value in this match as clearly ‘The Nuke’ is an overwhelming favourite. I do expect Meikle to play much better than he did in his first match but it’ll be a very tall order to get anything out of this contest.
They’ve also never played each other so Ryan may possibly feel a little less anxious as he doesn't have any bad memories in his mind.
Littler played Brendan Dolan last year and he used to be slow although he's quickened up a little now but Luke did lose a set. Ryan is very methodical so it could affect his rhythm and allow Meikle to also nick a set.

Damon Heta is a player on the rise and he comes into this tournament as the World Number 9. For a player of his calibre though he hasn't got the greatest results in Majors and that's concerning.
He had a wonderful run to the semi-final at the UK Open in March but that's about it this season. First-round exits in the World Matchplay, Grand Prix, and European Championship as well as failing to qualify for the Grand Slam.
In fact, he's lost in the first round in 3 of his 4 appearances at the Matchplay, and European Championships as well as 4 first-round exits on the trot at the World Grand Prix.
It's a different story away from the cameras though and in 30 Players Championship events this year he's had 9 Quarter Finals or better including 2 tournament wins.
A 67% win rate and a seasonal average of 96.98 suggests how elite his talent is. He got to the last 16 at last year's World Championship losing to Scott Willams 4-1, his best result at Ally Pally to date.
Connor Scutt had one of the performances of the first round as he blew Ben Robb away 3-0 with a 101.92 average. It was a ruthless display by Scutt, hitting 4 180s and had a checkout rate of 56.25%.
He looked supremely confident, even having time to interact with the crowd but managed to remain fully focused.
Winning his first game has now secured his place in the top 64 for next season which gives him a huge chance of qualifying for majors because the prize money he won this season will remain on his rankings.
These two players are massive 180 hitters and are both amongst the top 10 on Tour this season.
I expect it to be a close game because it's hard to separate them and if it goes all the way we could potentially see plenty of them.
Scutt is so confident right now though and his TV game looks extremely solid, he's the underdog and there's certainly value there.
