Onto the evening session on day 11 of the World Championship and we’re in for a real treat tonight. All eyes will be on the teenage sensation Luke Littler this evening, as he returns to the Palace for his next game against the experienced Ian White.
‘The Nuke’ showed some real emotion in his post-match interview on stage after admitting he felt nervous and under pressure which wasn't nice to see.
I’m sure this evening he will feel much more comfortable now he’s had a game up on that stage again and I think we could be in for a statement performance from the young man.
‘Hollywood’ Chris Dobey has the Premier League on his mind but has a very tough opponent in Josh Rock. That match has the potential to be one of the ties of the Third Round.
Finally, 3x World Champion, Michael Van Gerwen continues his quest for another world crown and faces the experienced Irishman, Brendan Dolan.
Chris Dobey was fabulous once again in his opening-round match at the World Championship. He beat Alexander Merkx 3-1 with 6 180s and a very respectable 95.62 average.
‘Hollywood’ has had a magnificent season on the pro tour this season, winning 3 Players Championship events and £98,000 in prize money, leading to him entering the Players Championship Finals in Minehead as the number 1 seed.
He’s ranked 4th in the averages over the last 12 months 97.41 and although Dobey hasn't had the greatest of years in TV majors, but he's proved his pedigree at the World Championships with back to back Quarterfinals in the last 2 years.
First-round losses at the World Grand Prix, European Championship and Players Championship Finals certainly won't do his Premier League aspirations much good but another great run at Ally Pally may well see him sneak in.
Josh Rock was far from convincing in his opening round win against Rhys Griffin. He averaged 87.13 in a 3-0 victory but until the last set he was averaging around 80 and looked very uncomfortable.
It was a strange performance after he seemingly looked in great form after recently winning a Players Championship floor event in October.
‘Rocky’ has really struggled in the TV Majors this season and has lost in the first round four times, including failing to get out of the group stage at the Grand Slam.
He did prove himself to still be capable of winning on stage though after he won his first European Tour title at the Dutch Darts Masters earlier in the year.
I think personally we can dismiss Dobey’s recent TV form because he always seems to be very impressive at Alexandra Palace and should have too much experience for Rock, especially as he knows how it feels to go deep in this tournament.
I don't think it will be completely straightforward though, and Rock could well cause Dobey problems, but he needs to massively improve from his first match against Rhys Griffin.
