After a decent go at the predictions last season, we are back with this season's predictions for the upcoming Premiership season. I have also signed up to stick my neck out a little more with a 1-12, so stay tuned for that.

Without further ado, let's dive into the league, starting with my pick for the Champions.

Who Will Win the Premiership Title?

It is, again, going to be a battle between Scotland's big two this season, I feel. I know, really sticking my neck out here. However, I think that there will be a bit of a gap between the two teams come May.

Over the summer, the club were taken over by 49ers Enterprises, who have been investing heavily in football recently, most notably with Premier League side Leeds United. Now, the investment in the Gers will be hoping to take a step into European football.

Around £10 million has been invested over the summer, with Thelo Aasgaard, Djeidi Gassama, Emmanuel Fernandez and Joe Rothwell all standing out for watchers of English football.

The reasoning for this recruitment comes from new manager Russell Martin, and his time in the English football leagues. As well, some nice value has been found in these signings. It is nothing to complain about too much.

However, will it be enough?

I am going to say not this year. So, I think that Celtic will win their fifth Premiership title in a row, and their 56th Scottish League title.

There has been a little bit of a change to the team over the summer, with Nicolas Kuhn's departure really standing out. Heading to Serie A, the Bhoys got a €20 million fee for the attacker, which has not really been reinvested.

Only a few million has been spent by the club; with them, again, looking for low-priced gems to turn into established talents. Shin Yamada, then, is the standout in this case. However, the biggest arrival has to be that of Kieran Tierney, who has returned after his time with Arsenal.

Who Will Finish in the Top Six?

Coming past those two, the Top Six battle is a rather difficult one to pick apart, at least in terms of rankings. That sixth-place spot is definitely going to be the most difficult to call, as it normally is.

After the top two, I think Hearts could have a strong season, especially without European football to contend with. Derek McInnes inherits a decent squad indeed, and he comes with an ambition to bring silverware to the club.

Of course, there is nothing really up for grabs with a third-place finish - focusing on the league itself. However, it could provide good value in the W/O Celtic and Rangers market. In fact, right now, the side are 11/8 to finish highest without that duo.

Below them, I think Aberdeen could have another strong season. Some interesting young signings have been made over the summer, and there is certainly room for the current squad to also continue to improve.

Another strong showing in the Cup may make things difficult to contend with, but Jimmy Thelin can steer the Dons towards a good finish again.

Hibernian round off the top five, and there is not any shock with this placing here, at least in my eyes. As the last of the 'bigger' clubs in Scotland, this top five should really be quite solid through the season.

It has been a summer of breaking even for Hibs, but David Gray retains a nice squad to work with and European football may cause them to lose track of a little bit of momentum.

Finally, picking a sixth spot was difficult with no one really standing out. However, I think it may just be Dundee United's to claim at the end of the season.

A top-four finish last season was a magnificent achievement, and whilst they may have to compete with Europe, I don't think they will be heavily impacted by this run. Or at least enough to take them away from the top six.

Who Will Be Relegated From the Scottish Premiership?

With the top end of the table looked at, now we need to look at the bottom side of the division, and there are some standout teams for me in the relegation picture, once again this year.

There are a few sides that could be struggling at the end of the year. However, I think we could see a yo-yo take place.

With the first relegation spot, I think the step up may prove a little too much for Livingston, who were the runners-up in the Scottish Championship last season. A convincing win against Ross County sealed their place in the top flight.

However, I do not think they will remain past this season. Their summer business has not been the most inspiring, and whilst it is OK, I am not the most confident of it being enough to adapt to the top flight.

Currently, this is priced at 7/2 with BetVictor.

I am also a bit wary of Falkirk, and whilst I think they will do slightly better than their promotion partner, I still think the same fate will await them in the play-off.

Signings have been interesting, to say the least, with nothing really done to improve the squad from where it was last season. Unfortunately, I just don't think it will be enough to keep them up this year.

Relegation markets, at the time of writing, were not open, but Falkirk to finish bottom was also 7/2 with BetVictor.

Who Will Be the Premiership Top Scorer?

There are some really nice prices available in the top scorer markets, with the lowest price actually being 5/1. So I think it will be a bit of a struggle to pick a winner here. However, I am torn between the two favourites - shocking, I know.

Daizen Maeda is a fantastic striker, but I think Lawrence Shankland could return to his previous best and refind his old form. The Scotsman should be played centrally again, and this should then bring his best back.

He has scored 24 goals in his past two seasons playing as a striker, and with my prediction for Hearts to do well this year. I quite like this pick. Not too bold, but a choice nevertheless.
