Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United on the first of November. At the start of January, the Red Devils are struggling to find form, and after a 'worst in history' admission, the market has opened up again.
Below are the latest betting odds for Manchester United's next permanent manager at the time of this post.
Bookie | Next Manager | Odds | Implied Probability | Visit |
---|---|---|---|---|
| Ruud Van Nistelrooy | 11/1 | 8.3% | Bet |
| Marco Silva | 40/1 | 2.4% | Bet |
| Thomas Frank | 40/1 | 2.4% | Bet |
| Gareth Southgate | 50/1 | 2% | Bet |

The cycle at Manchester United never seems to change, at least since Sir Alex Ferguson left. Hire a new manager, pick up a few good results, don't pick up good results, questions about the future.
Right now, we're in that fourth stage, and whilst it may repeat a few times, it doesn't seem to change for the Red Devils. The immediate action is to voice the need for change. Ultimately, that is why the changes never work.
Manchester United are a club that need patience, and a lot of it, and Ruben Amorim is aware of this. However, his comment at the weekend, stating that his side are possibly the 'worst in history' has certainly not helped his case...
After these comments, the next manager market has opened up once again, and whilst there should not be any immediate changes, there are some nice odds.
It is worth saying before getting into the odds. Ruben Amorim is not reported to be heading towards an exit, so these odds are a higher risk than usual. After all, Amorim could stay for the next two decades and be replaced by someone who is currently still in school, we never know.
After his spell in charge temporarily this season, there were shouts for Van Nistelrooy to be the next United head coach, and perhaps, that could happen. The Dutchman had a fantastic time in the Netherlands, and his PSV side were amazing to watch.
Now though, he is the head coach of Leicester, and despite that project being riddled with issues, he is struggling. Football fans are often very fickle, so despite his circumstances at Leicester, he could be dismissed from the equation unless he turns things round.
In fairness though, it can be argued that United are also a club riddled with problems currently, so if he is able to separate his team from the off-the-field issues, it could boost his chances massively.

Marco Silva then is the second favourite for the job, and this is an idea that I like. However, I don't think it would be popular, and I think that could be an issue in regard to this job.
With Fulham, the Portuguese head coach has done really, really well and he deserves recognition. However, I am unsure if that would be enough for the coach to earn a move to Old Trafford.
With that being said, INEOS are seemingly open to making big changes, so it is not one to write off.

When Erik ten Hag was sacked, Frank's name was in the equation to replace him, however, the rumours never really took off the ground and as we know, Frank remained. Perhaps, it could come back to life in the future.
Brentford are a club with lots of potential. A data-driven club with a fantastic coach and a great network of scouts. In many ways, it seems this is what INEOS want to replicate, albeit at a higher level.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already spoken about his desire to buy younger talents, rather than buying pre-made stars, and Frank could be the man to mould them if he got the job.
40/1 is certainly an interesting price, that much is for sure.

Once again, it is worth stating that these odds are so high because there are no plans for Amorim to go, so take that into consideration if placing any bets here.
Elsewhere there are some fantastic odds available to be capitalised on. Gareth Southgate at 50/1 is a real standout choice, given he was heavily linked after leaving the England post, so perhaps there could be value there.
Kieran McKenna is available at 125/1, but I have fears about whether he would be a choice if Ipswich do not stay up this season. We have seen exciting coaches quickly succumb to the pressures of the Championship after relegation (Rob Edwards of Luton Town).
Simone Inzaghi is a real stand-out for me, 150/1 seems like a phenomenal price for one of the best coaches in Europe. I could only see him moving to Spain or England after his time in Italy, and perhaps it could be Manchester United.

As of January 20, Manchester United are 6/4 to record a top-half finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Considering how high the expectations were when Ruben Amorim arrived, it is certainly a sobering selection. Nevertheless, it could be a value pick.
