The gap between the top team in League Two and the one at the bottom is 14 points, which is already substantial. However, only two teams have a two-point gap from their closest team, which is staggering.

18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4. That is every point tally so far in the fourth division. The gap accumulates over time. But, for now at least, there is no real gap to cross for several teams.

Biggest Gap Emerges

It is never a surprise to see runaways at the top of a division, and in some way, it almost feels like we have that in League Two. However, that is certainly a stretch. The one way that this is the case is that there is a two-point gap to third, rather than a one-point gap.

That gap exists to third as Swindon and Gillingham both have 18 points, whilst third-placed Salford only have 16, which is still a great return from eight games.

We'll start with the leaders, Swindon, who are really impressing so far and they are also the league's top goalscorers. They have scored three goals a game in their last three in the division - though this stretches to four, including the Football League Trophy.

Harrogate, for many, were expected to struggle this season. So, a 3-1 win against them at home is not massively impressive. However, we won't take anything away from Ian Holloway's side.

Below them, we have another veteran of the EFL, where Gareth Ainsworth has his Gillingham side unbeaten and on 18 points. Five wins, the latest of which came this weekend, and three draws is a fantastic return so far.

A narrow 1-0 victory against Notts County is a strong result, all things considered. More so, as it is another clean sheet. So far, they have kept four in the League Two season, so Ainsworth is making them a challenging team to beat.

Too Tough to Call

I said it last week, and I've already said it effectively this week. However, I'll say it again. The number of teams in the play-off positions makes this section so difficult to really look into.

It probably will not happen; if not, it definitely will not happen. However, 15th-placed Barnet could win their next game and get into the play-offs, considering 7th-placed Bromley are on 13 points, whilst they are on 10.

The number of teams that are currently fighting it out for the top seven is superb, and reminds us why League Two is so entertaining.

We'll start in third place, where Salford City are currently sitting on 16 points. A 3-1 win against Shrewsbury is a nice result away from home. Whilst a clean sheet would have been nice, going to a place like Croud Meadow whilst they are struggling is no easy feat.

Walsall follow afterwards, and their 1-1 draw with Fleetwood has halted them from being inside the top three. Nevertheless, it is a strong game to get out of the way.

Grimsby and Chesterfield both drew at the weekend, but neither will be too upset. The former were held by Cambridge at home, whilst the latter will be the happier of the two, picking up a point against MK Dons.

Bromley round off the top six, and they were beaten narrowly by newly promoted Oldham, who have gotten two wins in their last two games.

A team to keep an eye on is Bristol Rovers, who have won their last four games on the bounce. Things are clicking for the Gas, and a 2-1 win against Barrow is another strong result for them as they look for a League One return.

Few Movers

At the bottom, there is a bit of a saving grace. Whilst a 14-point gap exists from top to bottom, nine teams are within five points of bottom-placed Cheltenham. In other words, no one is dead and buried yet.

Of those nine teams, only four picked up any sort of points; Crawley and Accrington won, whilst Newport County and Tranmere both drew.

Cheltenham actually lost to Crawley, which already looked like a bit of a six-pointer, and the recently relegated side strolled past them with a 2-0 win. Perhaps, this can launch them up the table a little bit.

Shrewsbury were on the side of a poor result, obviously conceding three to Salford, though it is far from being the worst result ever.

Whilst Newport and Tranmere - the weekend's two drawing sides - faced each other, there was no real progression there.

It is all to play for towards the bottom end of the table, but you'd already be worried about a few sides, admittedly.
