The League Two table is providing some serious entertainment, and we are only five games in. At the top, the expected teams are fighting already, whilst things are looking a bit daunting at the bottom.
After 5 games, we are starting to see certain teams emerge, so let's look at the league.
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to win the title in the 2025/26 League Two season.
Before the season began, most expected League Two to be a two-horse battle, and the bookmakers still think this will be the case. However, the duo have not broken away just yet. In fact, they do not lead.
Right now, it is Crewe Alexandra who are the leading team in League Two, and they would be further ahead had it not been for their loss this weekend against Tranmere. Nevertheless, they still top the division.
The focus, though, will be on Chesterfield and MK Dons, who now sit in second and third. In midweek, the Spireites were well beaten by Gillingham, which certainly could cause a few worries about them moving forward.
They didn't strengthen their position too much over the weekend. Harrogate Town hosted them, and they were only able to narrowly get past the North Yorkshire outfit. Despite this, points are on the board, and they sit second.
MK Dons remain a point behind, thanks to another draw in midweek. Crawley, who were in League One last season, held them away from home, but as they returned to the road this weekend, they were able to get back to winning ways.
Three points against predicted strugglers Newport is a helpful result, but again, some questions could be asked about the quality of the win.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 7 in the 2025/26 League Two season.
Grimsby are the new third favourites for the title and are 10/1 at the time of writing. However, their odds for a top-seven place are nowhere near as generous as they were last week, so there may have been some value missed.
Nevertheless, the Mariners drew against Accrington at the weekend, which could make some lose faith in their position.
Gillingham are also in a very strong position, and their wins against Chesterfield and Crewe have massively strengthened their position in the last week. Gareth Ainsworth's position is very strong, and he is getting his team winning some big games already.
Swindon had an up and down week, losing in midweek, whilst getting a big three points against relegation candidates Shrewsbury at home. Elsewhere, Salford City did the reverse, as they won in midweek but lost at the weekend.
Right now, the top 9 are separated by just three points, which is keeping everything very interesting. As a result, too, there is still a decent bit of value available. For example, Grimsby are still only 8/11, whilst Salford City, who sit 9th, are around 13/8, which are both still good prices for a top seven spot.
Below, we have collected the top four teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2025/26 League Two season.
Things are not looking great for a few teams at the bottom, already, and it starts with Cheltenham, who are bottom of the league and pointless.
A 1-0 loss to Barnet, who finished the game with 10 men, is a terrible result, especially at home. However, it is nothing new; it is the 11th goal they have conceded and their fifth straight loss. Saying it is a bad run does not come close.
This is where I'd normally try to find positives about the side, and say they can maybe start to claw things back. However, I am already quite worried about their position this season, and it is only five games in.
Shrewsbury and Crawley were both on the end of defeats again, and their singular point tallies are not looking fantastic. The former were a favourite to go down, but the latter's position after relegation from League One is looking problematic.
Accrington Stanley are the last team in that 'pack' as such, as they sit in 21st, just a point above the aforementioned duo. Ahead of them is Bristol Rovers, who are on four points, so there is a slight gap already being formed.
With that said, it is very early to be saying that.
