New Leaders in League One

There have been a few teams sitting in the top spot this season, but this weekend's game saw a new leader take the throne. That would be Brian Barry-Murphy's Cardiff City side, who have been fantastic so far.

They have only dropped points once, and this weekend's win against Luton is a testament to their quality, more so considering the Hatters have been long-standing favourites to lift the title themselves.

Additionally, their midweek win against Wimbledon last week was a big three points away from home that deserves mentioning. A big six points, indeed.

Huddersfield then follow in second, and they have bounced back from their loss against Blackpool superbly. A win against Yorkshire rivals Doncaster started things off, as the Terriers scored twice late on.

Then, this weekend, they toppled the perfect Stevenage team, who had won all four of their League One games this season. Although slightly ropey at times, the Terriers got the job done, which leaves them second. However, they are now the favourite for the title.

Stockport, who are also strong in the title market at 7/1, had an up-and-down week. In midweek, on gameday four, they lost to Bradford City, who deserve a lot of credit, then they bounced back with a win against Burton Albion at the weekend. A big result for Dave Challinor's men.

Mix Match Top Six

Stevenage's loss to Huddersfield adds their first loss (or anything other than a win) onto the board. However, they cannot be too dissatisfied; the Terriers scored a scrappy goal, and they held their own for much of the game.

Their midweek win against Port Vale, though, was a nice result and keeps them in good standing. If you had offered 12 points from the opening 15, most would most likely take it!

Following them are the media sensations, Bradford City. The Bantams have been huge this week thanks to their hit replies in the opposition comments. If you have been on X, you most likely have seen a 'Pecked by the chickens' image.

This weekend, Peterborough avoided a mass pecking, thanks to a last-minute goal. However, Dave Challinor's Stockport were not so lucky, losing 2-1 against the Bantams. Oppositions are now certainly in fear of the idea of a pecking.

Barnsley then round off the Top Six, a loss this weekend to AFC Wimbledon has certainly halted their push a little. However, they are still in a fantastic place. An away trip to the Cherry Red Records Stadium is no easy feat.

After their win in game week two, Bolton have drawn three on the bounce, which has certainly slowed their hopes of a play-off place. However, a lot can change in this mad league!

Not a Good Look

The bottom of the league certainly paints a picture. Though it is still early, a lot of the teams involved should not be.

Starting at the bottom with that aforementioned pecking, Peterborough avoided another week of pointless action, thanks to a late equaliser. Of course, the hoard of Bradford (and other) fans in the comments was also nice.

Nevertheless, the summer overhaul is really taking a toll, and Posh are in a very precarious position right now.

Reading are also in a difficult place, though they are slightly better off, thanks to their two draws in the past week. Firstly, against Bolton away from home, and then again against Wycombe away from home.

Last season, the trio flirted with the play-offs, and this season it has not gone that way. However, they could be the start of getting away from the bottom four. Reading certainly need it, that much is for sure.

Port Vale have also fallen into a bit of a hole, losing both of their last two games against Doncaster and Stevenage. All things considered, the opening few games have not done much to show they will be in a decent position at the end of the season.

Wycombe also find themselves in a tough spot. They have lost three of their opening five, and this weekend's draw against Reading has not done much to help things.

Above them is Blackpool and Plymouth Argyle, both of whom were expected to be fighting at the top end of the table. However, things have been rather drab for them so far. The two faced this weekend, and the Pilgrims now sit ahead as a result, thanks to the 1-0 win.

Both can and need to improve quickly, which is a story for most of the sides so far.
