With a club like Fenerbahce, times are often tumultous. Security comes in waves, as do rumours and reports about your future. So, after a bit of an unsettling period, he has been sacked in Turkey.
So, the markets have now popped up for his next job, and there are several different ideas waiting to be explored. Already, we know that the former Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United boss has taken a look at England.
As Yahoo relays from 2024, "I think the best thing I have to do is, when I leave Fenerbahce, I go to a club that does not play UEFA competitions. If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I am ready to go.”
Perhaps, this offers us the biggest hint about where his future may lie, let's take a little look.
The starting point makes sense for all of the right reasons, West Ham United, at the time of writing, are the favourites to land the Portuguese head coach. They have the money to spend, are near the bottom of the league, and are without Europe. Tick, tick, tick.
Though, there is an obstacle to overcome, West Ham have a manager currently. Though, the latest Premier League sacking odds suggest that Graham Potter is not far away from losing his job already.
At present, fans of the London club are heavily frustrated by ongoings, and Mourinho could be the way to start clawing back a relationship.
Nottingham Forest are another club that makes sense for Jose. Ultimately, they have the funds to do so, and have a rising profile, without recently regularly being a European player. Nevertheless, the same obstacle is in place, or is it.
Recently, there have been suggestions that Nuno Espirito Santos could lose his job, or leave his post. Whilst these reports have been downplayed by the Portuguese, he is still one of the well-backed options to leave his Premier League post soon.
Jose with Evangelos Marinakis could be box office, and for Forest, it could be brilliant.
Rangers are a bit of a shock here, but it would certainly be an interesting move. Russell Martin only took over the Scottish giants in the summer, but his start to life has been tragic so far.
The Englishman already looks lost and Mourinho could, perhaps, explored a completely new opportunity. After being taken over this summer, there is plenty of money available for the Gers to tempt Mourinho.
However, these odds do feel a bit short, there are probably better options out there.
At 6/1 and 12/1, the odds of any Saudi Arabian or MLS team are somewhat tempting, given how open the markets are. However, a move to one of those leagues may not tempt Mourinho.
The Portuguese National Team job, at 10/1, is certainly an interesting option, more so as it is a World Cup year. If there were ever going to be a time to do it, maybe it could be this year, especially with it likely to be Cristiano Ronaldo's last World Cup attempt.
Manchester United are priced at 16/1 with Paddy Power and Sky Bet, but elsewhere the odds are at 8/1. Could a return happen? Well, Ruben Amorim's odds have shot down recently, so it is a possibility.
A real risk, but a tempting one at that, is a move to Leeds United, who could look to part with Daniel Farke if things go south in the near future. At 20/1 there is value there, but I'd probably avoid it for now.
