The reunion tour of Oasis is now less than four months away, set to commence on July 4th, and the opening night will be in Cardiff. In addition to the first song of the setlist, bookies have also priced up the first word to come out of Liam Gallagher's mouth.

Assessing Liam's Precedents - From Oasis to Solo Tours

Naturally, it's incredibly difficult to deliver any sort of 'secure' prediction on the matter, especially since Liam himself might see the Betfred odds and decide to mess with the punters. Nevertheless, a frontman rarely strays from his patterns, so at least some educated guesses can be made.

The opening night is, as said, taking place in Cardiff and Liam played there fairly recently. It was for the 25th anniversary of Definitely Maybe, more specifically in 2024, and his first word was the first word of the song Rock 'n' Roll Star: "I [live my life in the city]."

Two years before that, in 2022, he played at Cardiff Bay for the C'mon You Know tour and opened the show by saying "Yes Cardiff!". Going back another three years, to 2019, he simply said the name of the opening song, "Rock 'n' Roll Star", so he certainly tends to keep things short and sweet.

Bringing an Oasis show in Cardiff into the mix, going back to 2009, he opened it with "Cardiff, how are we?". A similar opening line was used in 2005: "How's Cardiff?". That selection is available at 5/1. Anyway, he clearly likes to mention the city he's in, or the venue he's playing at, in some way at least.

Having said all of the above, I think we need to factor in how special the occasion is. It's not just another show, as it was with the aforementioned examples, but rather the long-awaited return of one of the biggest bands in the world.

I imagine that Oasis' production team will have a nice video ready, to be shown on the big screens as Fuckin' in the Bushes is playing (or maybe they will even scrap that song if the video includes some talking?). This could result in Liam not saying anything aside from the opening song's first word, as we saw in 2024.

However, any romantic would agree that the singer won't be able to keep himself from saying something. For the big return to Knebworth in 2022, both nights, he used the classic Beatles line "I am he, you are he, you are me and we are all together". He did say a few words before that, though.

Final Thoughts on Liam's First Word

Personally, I think the Beatles line is a good shout, as well as something like "This is rock 'n' roll". If Rock 'n' Roll star is indeed the opener - as we have predicted - and Liam doesn't say a word before, the "I" could also be a decent option (in other words, same as Beatles line).

Taking the precedents into account a bit more, something like "Yes Cardiff!" is also a good option in my opinion, but sadly that selection (yes) isn't available. Indeed, while most of the Betfred markets are decent options, I think the bookie lacks some words that could be worth a bet.
