The Ligue 1 season kicks off next weekend, but punters are currently not able to access the relegation markets. Instead, they can only bet on a few markets in the French top flight. Today, we have learned why. Featured image courtesy of Ligue 1.

Relegation Odds Missing for Ligue 1

With the Ligue 1 season beginning shortly, it's no surprise that you can access the betting markets already. In fact, they have been open for some time, with bookmakers looking to capitalise on early predictions.

When browsing the markets, you will find the usual classics from match results to the title winners, but there is one big market missing. That, of course, is the relegation market.

Right now, there is no way to bet on the relegation candidates through ANY bookmaker. Of course, with the new campaign starting shortly, this is less than ideal for us as punters and the bookies themselves.

As such, we reached out to bet365 to enquire about the situation and we have been told that the relegation markets will open at the start of next week. In short, they will be made available just a few days before the start of the site.

Having said all of the above, why was the market removed to begin with? Ever since Lyon were handed their provisional relegation due to financial issues in January, the bookies decided to shut it down due to the uncertainty.

Since then, other clubs have also struggled with their finances, and with the league not completely settled, bookmakers have been reluctant to list odds for the new season. So, with things seemingly calmer now, the market is set to be made available again.

Who Are the Favourites for Relegation?

Whilst we cannot currently see the odds for the relegation candidates, we can certainly have a look at who could be going down based on the current title odds. However, we cannot really guess the prices for them just yet.

At the bottom of the division, the odds for a winner get quite ludicrous quickly. So it's difficult to really call. However, Paris FC, Angers, Metz, Lorient and Le Havre are all priced at 2500/1, showing that they will probably be around the bottom in the relegation odds.

Angers, at least on Bet365, may be the most likely to be relegated, followed by Le Havre given they have the highest odds to win the title.

As of August 7, Angers are 2500/1 to win the Ligue 1 title, showing that they are probably going to be one of the favourites for relegation.
