Onto day two of the European Darts Trophy as the 16-seeded players enter the action to take on Friday's first-round winners.
Both these players have blown hot and cold so far this season but when they've played well it's been superb. The consistency just hasn't been there for either of them, although Nijman has been unlucky at times and has lost 6-5 in four of his last five defeats on tour.
Noppert has lost in the first round in four Players Championship events this season and also lost the first round at the first European Tour event in Belgium against Daryl Gurney.
Wessel Nijman averaged 98.19 in his 6-5 victory over Paul Khrone yesterday and handled himself brilliantly to see the match out. He also won his first-round match at ET1 and then lost another 6-5 to Jonny Clayton but averaged 99 in defeat.
For me, Nijman looks the more likely at the moment and it seems like he's ready to have a big run after some frustrating tight defeats. It will no doubt be another close contest but ultimately I see Nijman coming through this Dutch clash.

This looks like the match of the day with two in-form players clashing in what could become a European Tour classic. Both players had a run to the semi-final at ET1 in Belgium losing to Martin Schindler and Luke Littler respectively.
Ross Smith has had two semi-final runs in Players Championship events and Wade has had two quarter-finals. Wade also averaged 115.92 in a 6-2 victory against Beau Greaves at PC05 which was his highest recorded average in his PDC career.
Smith averaged 106.44 and hit four 180s in his first-round victory and because he's already had a match on stage and played well, I think that's why this game will swing in his favour.
He's also won 3 out of the last 4 meetings between the two and with Smith's fantastic scoring power, I expect him to outscore the Machine and get through to finals day tomorrow.

Josh Rock lost his opening match at ET1 6-3 against Boris Krcmar but did average 99.69. He's struggled for consistency at times this season but he's another player that when he's on, he's brilliant. The problem is, he's not doing it enough at the moment and I think he will come unstuck against the in-form Dutchman.
Gian van Veen came through a tricky opening test against the dangerous Connor Scutt. He won 6-5 averaging 92.43 in a game that looked very nervy. It was understandable though as it was a draw both of them would have preferred to have avoided.
The Dutchman won his first senior PDC title at PC06 after making the final the day before missing match darts against Joe Cullen. He showed a great attitude to come back after that disappointment and win the following day and he will have the belief now that he can win more.
This could be a brilliant high-scoring contest or turn into a scrappy affair but either way, I think van Veen will have too much for Rock and will win another tight contest in Gottingen.

Dimitri Van den Bergh is on a six-match losing streak and has averaged below 80 in three of them. 78.30, 76.53, and 70.90 in the UK Open are very poor for someone of his quality. It's clear he has an undoubted ability but his results have been extremely worrying over the last 18 months. He's lost in the first round in five of his six Players Championship events in 2025 and lost his opening match in Belgium 6-3 against Martin Schindler
Ryan Joyce breezed through his first-round match 6-0 against an out-of-sorts Joe Cullen. Joyce was solid as usual hitting 6/9 on his doubles (67%) and averaged 90.18.
I fear for the Belgian at the moment and although he plays much better on stage, I think Joyce will be far too consistent today and condemn him to a seventh consecutive defeat.

Dave Chisnall is another player in the elite who is struggling at the moment, but he did make it to the quarter-final at ET1 losing to Luke Littler 6-4.
Chizzy has failed to get past the second round in the last four Players Championships and has averaged less than 90 in his last five matches. For someone of Chisnall's quality that simply isn't good enough and he will need to drastically improve to trouble Evans tonight.
Ricky Evans celebrated an emotional 6-4 victory over Raymond van Barneveld in the first-round averaging 95.55. It was especially impressive after what he's been through in his personal life over the last few weeks and I expect him to be bang up for the challenge again tonight.
Evans looks like a fantastic price to overcome Chisnall tonight and the way Chizzy has been playing lately I think Ricky can take full advantage and get through to finals day on the European Tour for the first time since 2022.
Peter Wright has been showing signs for a while that he's finding his form again, especially after his World Championship performances. He played well at the UK Open and had chances to beat Luke Littler but lost 10-9 with a 101 average. He had a run to the quarter-final of PC07 last week but lost to Mike De Decker 6-3.
After his Premier League selection disappointment, Mike De Decker has finally started to find his feet again and has looked very impressive over recent weeks. He had a brilliant run to the final of ET1 to delight his home crowd but ultimately came up short against Luke Littler. The Belgian then had a semi-final run at PC07 losing to eventual winner Gary Anderson 7-3. He was solid in his first-round match yesterday beating Martin Lukeman 6-3 with a 93.61 average and two 180s.
Mike De Decker won the pair's last meeting on Tuesday and I think that may be a factor here. Wright isn't a player to worry about stuff like that but De Decker will certainly take confidence from the win. The Belgian looks in better form at the moment and I expect him to outscore Snakebite and progress to his second consecutive finals day this season.

Michael van Gerwen has had a tough time so far in 2025 but he did make it to his first nightly final of his Premier League campaign on Thursday.
He averaged 104 in a 6-4 win against Luke Humphries and then averaged 101 in a 6-4 loss to Luke Littler in what was a brilliant final. I think the Dutchman needed that run for a bit of confidence as he's found it hard to win matches just lately.
Niko Springer averaged 95.34 and hit five maximums during his 6-4 victory over Daryl Gurney in the first round. He looked fantastic in patches and you can see why he's being tipped as the future of German darts.
Niko Springer beat MVG in the first round of PC07 on Tuesday and he'll take a lot of confidence from that. I can see this being a close high-scoring match and the crowd will be firmly on the young German's side so I can see this going to a last-leg decider.
Springer is a big power scorer and MVG hasn't been as clinical hitting maximums as he usually does so far in 2025 so I think there's massive value in the 180 markets.
