Over/Under 2.5 Goals Explained

Over/under (totals) markets are available in a wide number of sports on betting sites, including football, tennis, basketball, American football and more. An over-under bet is a wager that predicts the total number (under or over) in a game. Essentially, punters wager that a combined score of the two teams will be either more or less than the number offered by bookies.

In the over/under market, there is no possibility for a draw or refund, which is why the .5 number is there. If the number was whole, say 2, the betting sites would need to add a third option for if there were exactly 2 goals in the game. You can bet on that market, but it is separate from the typical over/under market which is made a two-way market by using the .5.

But, in the Asian totals markets, you can get half wins, half losses, and refunds on some over-under bets that offer whole numbers. You can bet on over 2 Asian total goals and get a refund if there are only 2 goals scored, and win if there are 3+ goals scored.

Over 2.5 Goals

The over/under 2.5 goals betting market is one of the most popular in the UK, and we see plenty of hopefully six-fold acca’s at the weekend. Punters are betting on 3 or more goals in the games they have picked out, and for most matches, you can get around evens.

For example, over 2.5 goals in the Everton vs Man United is betting on three or more goals in the match (both teams total). If there are 2 or fewer goals, your bet will lose (there are no draws in all o.5 over/under markets).

Some of the best betting sites offer over markets for team totals now too, meaning you can bet on over 2.5 goals for one team, instead of the total in the match. This market can have great value if you believe the team is going to win by a considerable amount.

Under 2.5 Goals

Under 2.5 goals in the match is betting on 2 or fewer goals in the match. Most punters stay away from the under markets, but there are often lower betting margins and potential value in the unders bets.

Statistically, the English Premier League has seen over 2.5 goals land in just 53.24% of matches so far. If you are willing to put in the work and do a bit of research, you can unearth some great value for betting against the over 2.5 goals trends that most punters back.
