Ange Postecoglou's position at Tottenham has been wavering over the past 12 months, and despite being in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, the North London club's league position and results are creating frustration.

Tottenham's Pendulum Swings Once Again

Few clubs in the Premier League swing so often and as aggressively as Tottenham Hotspur. After beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final, there was hope that things could change. However, a loss to Everton at the weekend has swung things again.

Spurs are a club who have had issues with coaches and the ownership for several years now, so it comes as no shock to see that Ange Postecoglou is now in a difficult position. However, many hoped it would be different this time (though this could probably be said for each of his predecessors).

The fans are clearly not on board with the Australian, but they are also against Daniel Levy. Someone will go at some point, and it is more likely to be Ange than Levy, that is almost guaranteed.

Next Tottenham Hotspur Manager Odds - The Bookies Favourites

No one has really taken a clear lead in the runnings for the next Tottenham Hotspur head coach odds, but this could be a good thing for us as punters.

Andoni Iraola - 6/4

Iraola walked into the Bournemouth job with initial doubts about his qualities, and after a difficult start, the Cherries are flying under the Spaniard. At present, Iraola's side sit in seventh, just a point behind the Champions League places, which is a testament to his coaching.

On paper, the Spaniard ticks several boxes that would imaginably be on Spurs' paper. A young, exciting coach who has shown he can do well with a tight budget. What, hypothetically, is not to like there?

So for Spurs, I can only see them trying to make a move.

However, for Iraola, it makes no sense to leave right now. Spurs are 15th, only eight points away from the relegation spots, and with his current side flying, surely he would see it out until the end of the season.

For me, as much as I like the possibility of Iraola, I'd be steering clear, again.

Edin Terzic - 4/1

After guiding Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final, many outsiders would have been shocked to see the club part ways with Terzic at the end of the season. However, it was a decision waiting to happen.

Media reports suggested that the coach often spoke ill of his team publicly, and he also had a very public feud with Mats Hummels.

Despite his football having some of the characteristics that Tottenham may look for, I don't think he is the right man to lead the club forward, even if he is a free agent, which might be seen as appealing by the Spurs board.

Xabi Alonso - 8/1

Once again, I like the odds of Xabi Alonso here, but the offering just feels like a high-level coach who is likely to leave his current job soon. Which is a common theme in this list as we'll get into shortly.

The Bayer Leverkusen boss is fantastic, and he will have a very good career in management. However, if the pull of Liverpool was not enough, then I cannot see Spurs - with respect - being any different. Especially considering he is heavily linked with the Real Madrid job.

The Odds Elsewhere

Didier Deschamps, Massimiliano Allegri and Gareth Southgate are all priced at 8/1 too, remember me saying coaches who were high profile and soon to be, or already out of a job? Deschamps won't leave before the 2026 World Cup, so that is a big cross for me. Allegri could be possible, but I have doubts about his style and what Tottenham want.

Southgate does strike me as an option I must admit, but whether it would be a step forward from Postecoglou is another thing.

Marco Silva is priced at 8/1 as well, which could be a nice appointment, but it is a somewhat similar situation to Iraola for me. Thomas Frank also is intriguing at 12/1 and it feels like a very smart appointment hypothetically. However, there is the same drawback again.

Personally, I'd be seeing out the season with Ange and then making a decision as any coach having a good season will be reluctant to leave now, which leaves you with a weak free agent market.

Odds on Tottenham Hotspur to Get Top 10

Ladbrokes logo

As of January 20, Tottenham are 7/4 to record a top-half finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season, which are good odds. However, it shows how poorly Postecoglou is doing for this to be the market in focus.
